ABSTRACT

Traditionally, pharmaceutical English teaching is conducted in accordance to the needs of students. However, the corresponding teaching effects were still not satisfactory enough because of the non-practicality of teaching content and the unitary teaching mode. In the current study, a new teaching mode of pharmaceutical English was put into practice in the school of pharmacy in Qiqihar Medical University. The new strategy was performed via the integration of pharmaceutical English teaching and corresponding experiments in which their own specialized characteristics were highlighted. During this program, teaching materials, contents, vocabulary training and scene training were optimized, and the executing processes, methods and contents were presented in details. Besides, evaluation system was also optimized, building a more systematic pharmaceutical English teaching strategy with the specialized characteristics. This strategy was believed to improve the practicability of pharmaceutical English , increase students' interest and enthusiasm for learning, meet the needs of specialized course and follow-up education.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To provide reference for teaching reform of Pharmaceutical English in our university. METHODS:According to the theory of needs analysis,by the means of classroom observation,questionnaire survey combined with personal in-terview,the participation of students majoring in Pharmaceutical Engineering,Pharmaceuticals and TCM Source of Grade 2013 in Pharmaceutical English classrooms of our university were investigated to investigate target needs and learning needs of students and analyze main influential factors of students'enthusiasm. RESULTS:It was found that the students participated passively in the Pharmaceutical English classrooms,mainly targeted at credit hour(88 students,58.28%)and aimed at the improvement of read-ing ability(73 students,48.34%). From aspect of learning needs,the students presented evenly enthusiasm for between traditional teaching method and modern teaching method;expected teachers asked more difficult questions;the study focused on actual and ef-fective feedback from the students. Their participation was mainly influenced by course property,teaching content and teaching method. The students'learning objectives were greatly affected by course propevty;to the students,the teaching content was more important than teaching method. CONCLUSIONS:It is to be improved in course property and location,teaching content and teach-ing method of Pharmaceutical English in our university. Pharmaceutical English should be included in required course;teaching content is combined with pharmaceutical practice;various teaching mode is formulated according to teaching content so as to meet students'need and improve teaching effect.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To provide reference for improving the application ability of professional English for students major-ing in pharmacy in higher vocational education. METHODS:The career-oriented practical pharmaceutical English course and teach-ing system were constructed through the way of formulation of curriculum standards,establishment of teachers’team,development of school-based teaching material,application of CBI theme teaching mode and variety teaching methods,and it was carried out among students majoring in pharmacy in 2011-2014 grades in our school. Besides,experimental and survey research were used for the evaluation of Proctical Pharmaceutical English. RESULTS:There was no significant difference in the academic achievement and questionnaire evaluation between 2 class before teaching(P>0.05);however,academic achievement and questionnaire evaluation were higher than 2 class after teaching,experimemal class higher than control class,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS:The career-oriented Practical Pharmaceutical English course and teaching system is feasible and effective;compared with traditional teaching,it can inspire students' interest in English learning,improve the ability to use English in the work and motivate their comprehensive qualities.

ABSTRACT

This paper analyzed challenges and difficulties in the teaching of academic English for doctoral postgraduates. The ideas of putting emphasis on listening and speaking course of academic English,compiling suitable teaching material,encouraging teachers to advance against the hardship were proposed. At the same time,it took China pharmaceutical university as an example to discuss the practice of listening and speaking course of pharmaceutical English for doctoral postgraduates and summed up the experiences in the enaction of teaching objectives,curriculum provision,compilation of teaching material,design of teaching model,etc. The purpose was to provide experiences for teach-ing reform of listening and speaking course of pharmaceutical English.
