ABSTRACT

@#Septin is a highly conserved class of GTP-binding proteins found in eukaryotes other than higher plants. The different subtypes of Septin can form higher order structures such as filamentous or ring-like structures in the form of heterodimer to perform their functions, which can regulate physiological processes such as yeast budding and cell division,as well as participating in the defense response of the host cell.Abnormal expression or mutation of Septin is closely related to the occurrence and development of tumors and neurological diseases. This paper summarized the physiological functions of the Septin family, the effects of Septin on the occurrence and development of tumors and neurological diseases, and the role of Septin in the host immune response.

ABSTRACT

Gap junction (GJ), which mainly consists of connexins, is a linking method between neighboring cells. Neighboring cells exchange substances, energy and information by gap junction intercellular communication mediated by GJ. Particularly, Cx43 protein is one of the most important members of Cx family. The study in recent years demonstrated the features of Cx43 protein and its important roles in the pathogenesis of neurological disorders, tumors, cardiovascular risks. This article summarizes the structure, functions, coding gene, structure analysis, synthesis, membrane localization, regulation of Cx43. Furthermore, this article explains the physiological functions of Cx43 in human bodies and its important roles in the pathogenesis of related neurological disorders.

ABSTRACT

As the fourth member of the globin family, cytoglobin ( CYGB) is a hypoxia-induced gene, and its expression is upregulated under hypoxia.CYGB is widely distributed in the living body and has a variety of physiological functions, such as anti-oxi-dative stress, anti-fibrosis, and neuroprotection. It also plays a protective role in cardiovascular disease, cancer, and other hypoxia-re-lated diseases. This article presents an overview on the structure and distribution of CYGB, its physiological functions of anti-fibrosis, anti-cancer and muscle regeneration, and the regulation and the mechanism of its expression under hypoxia.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study was to determine the effects of a combined exercise program and telephone counseling in obese middle-aged women. The study also attempted to measure the effects of the program on physiological functions, self-efficacy and depression. METHOD: This research employed a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The experimental group consisted of 29 obese middle-aged women, and the control group of 30 women. The subjects in the experimental group participated in a combined exercises program and telephone counseling for 12 weeks. RESULTS: After performing the program for 12 weeks, BMI (p=.000), percent body fat (p<.007), TC (p=.026), TG (p=.035) and depression (p=.012) in the experimental group decreased significantly compared with the control group. Self-efficacy (p=.000) in the experimental group increased significantly compared with the control group after the program. CONCLUSION: From these findings, it was confirmed that a combined exercises program and telephone counseling for obese middle-aged women can increase self-efficacy and decrease BMI, percent body fat, total cholesterol, triglyceride and depression. Therefore, this program can be utilized for various population groups including women, and further researches are required on programs for men.

ABSTRACT

The origin of the word "male external genitals(Zongjin)" is coming from Inner Canon of Huangdi(Huangdi Nei Jing). This article synthesized the theories of past dynasties' doctors. It made a systemic statement on "male external genitals" in terms of the concept, physiological functions and the contacting effect with correlated meridian and vessels for the first time,so as to enrich the theory of visceral manifestations in TCM.Meanwhile,it also pointed out the significance and specific application of the theory that treating impotence based on "male external genitals",thereby provided a new view of treating "male external genitals" in TCM clinic.

ABSTRACT

Glucagon-like peptide-1 is one of the most important members of incretin, which has an unusual therapeutic potential in type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity. Its analogues are resistant to dipeptidyl peptidase Ⅳ hydrolysis and begin to be used clinically. These preparations may have important application perspective as new therapeutic agents in the treatment of diabetes mellitus and obesity.
