ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture of She Medicine in treating acute lumbar sprain.Method Eighty patients with acute lumbar sprain were randomized into a treatment group and a control group,40 cases each. The treatment group was intervened by acupuncture of She medicine, while the control group received conventional medication. After successive 3-day treatment, the changes in Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Modified-Modified Schober (MMS) scores were observed, and the clinical efficacies were compared between the two groups.Result After the intervention, the VAS and MMS scores were significant changed in both groups (P<0.01).The VAS and MMS scores of the treatment group were significantly different from those of the control group after the intervention (P<0.01).The total effective rate and recovery rate were respectively 92.5% and 70.0% in the treatment group, versus 77.5% and 40.0% in the control group, and the between-group differences were statistically significant (P<0.01).Conclusion Acupuncture of She medicine is effective in treating acute lumbar sprain, with advantages of swift action in releasing symptoms and high recovery rate.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of She medicine in treating lumbar intervertebral disc herniation (LIDH) in acute pain stage, and to explore its action mechanism.Method Sixty patients with LIDH in acute pain stage were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 30 in each group. The treatment group was intervened by She medicine, while the control group was by oral administration of Loxoprofen tablets. Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was observed before and after intervention, and the clinical efficacies were compared.Result The excellence rate was 83.3% in the treatment group versus 60.0% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The VAS score changed significantly after intervention in both groups (P<0.01). After intervention, there was a significant difference in comparing the VAS score between the two groups (P<0.05).Conclusion She medicine is an effective approach in treating LIDH in acute pain stage, and it can significantly reduce pain.

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the efficacies of medicated thread moxibustion plus needle picking therapy versus medication for sciatica.Method Seventy sciatica patients were randomly allocated to a treatment group of 35 cases and a control group of 35 cases. The treatment group received medicated thread moxibustion on Zusanli (ST36), three cones once daily and needle picking at Yanglingquan (GB34) and Huantiao (GB30), once daily. The control group took quick-acting sciatica pills, two pills twice daily. One course of treatment consisted of 10 days in both groups. The therapeutic effects were compared between the two groups of patients after two consecutive courses of treatment.Result Posttreatment pain score decreased more markedly in the treatment group (P<0.01). The total efficacy rate was 88.6% in the treatment group and 57.1% in the control group; there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05).Conclusion Medicated thread moxibustion plus needle picking therapy for sciatica is more effective in relieving pain and raising the total efficacy rate.
