ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the correlation between dyslipidemia and obesity caused by carnivorous diet among people aged 18 and over in the plateau area of Qinghai Province. Methods This study selected 396 subjects aged 18 and above from the multi-physical examination centers in Qinghai Province to be included in the analysis. Routine questionnaires were used to collect general demographic data, overweight and obesity and risk factors information of the subjects. At the same time, the incidence of obesity was calculated based on the BMI level. Results The proportion of abnormal lipids in high altitude residents(35.68%,38.96%,41.78%,33.80%,35.21%)was higher than that in low altitude residents(23.49%,21.85%,25.68%,25.68%,19.67%).The proportion of abnormal lipids in male group(21.39%,18.90%,16.91%,15.92%,22.38%)was higher than that in female group(13.33%,11.28%,8.20%,9.23%,14.35%).The proportion of abnormal lipids in 60-80 years old group(32.51%,21.47%,23.31%,20.24%,25.15%)was higher than that in 18-44 years old group(18.67%,2.48%,12.00%,2.48%,14.67%)and 45-59 years old group(16.45%,12.02%,13.92)%,10.75%,14.55%).The rate of dyslidemia in obese people(27.43%,24.77%,25.66%,8.84%,28.31%)was higher than that in underweight people(20.51%,6.87%,6.87%,15.38%,16.67%),normal weight people(10.14%,7.24%,4.34%,4.34%,5.79%)and the overweight group(16.91%,14.70%,11.76%,12.50%,13.23%)was higher. The rate of dyslidemia in junior college and above group(4.76%,5.95%,5.35%,4.76%,4.16%)was higher than that in primary school and middle school(12.94%,10.58%,8.23%,7.05%,5.88%).High school/technical secondary school(18.18%,18.88%,13.28%,14.68%,16.78%)were lower(P<0.05).In terms of average intake of meat, the proportion of overweight/underintake in obese group(55.15%,33.82%)was higher than that in non-obese group(16.54%,26.15%),and the proportion of normal intake in obese group(11.03%)was lower than that in non-obese group(57.31%).The proportion of excessive/low intake in normal group(18.05%,26.35%)was lower than that in dyslipidemia group(53.78%,26.05%),and the proportion of normal intake in normal group(55.60%)was higher than that in dyslipidemia group(20.17%)(P<0.05).With abnormal blood lipid as the dependent variable and excessive/low meat intake as the independent variable, the regression analysis showed that both excessive/low meat intake were risk factors for abnormal blood lipid(OR=1.134,1.146,P<0.05).Taking obesity as the dependent variable and excessive/low meat intake as the independent variable, the regression analysis showed that both excessive/low meat intake were risk factors for obesity(OR=1.145,1.327,P<0.05).Conclusion The dietary characteristics of people aged 18 and over in the plateau area are unstable. The incidence of dyslipidemia is 30.05%, and the incidence of obesity is 34.34%. Excessive or too little meat intake is associated with dyslipidemia and obesity in this population.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the clinical characteristics, treatment and prognosis of eye injury of soldiers in Tibet, so as to propose suggestions for treatment improvement. Methods: The clinical data of soldiers with eye injury admitted to 6 hospitals serving soldiers in Tibet from Jan. 1, 2011 to Dec. 31, 2017 were collected, including demographic information, cause of injury, time for medical treatment, and visual acuity at admission and at discharge. Then the mentioned data were compared with the data of soldiers with eye injury admitted to other military hospitals. Results: In total, 112 cases (116 eyes) were involved, including 110 males and 2 females. Among them, 111 cases (114 eyes) had mechanical globe injury accounting for 99.11% (98.28%), 55 cases (49.11%) had training injury, 35 cases (31.25%) had injury in spare time, and 22 cases (19.64%) had injury at worksite. Thirty-nine cases (34.82%) arrived at the central hospital or general hospital for treatment after 3 days of injury. The 24-h visit rate (41.07%, 46/112) was significantly lower than those reported by General Hospital of Jinan Military Command of PLA (82.37%, 271/329) and overall troops of full training (89.73%, 131/146) (both P = 0.01). The visual acuity of 70 eyes restored better visual sight at discharge versus at admission, accounting for 76.09% of the 92 eyes with sight recording. Totally 35.87% of eyes (33/92) had poor sight or single eye blindness. The incidence rates of poor sight (29.35% [27/92]) and single eye blindness (6.52% [6/92]) were significantly higher than the data reported by General Hospital of Jinan Military Command of PLA (8.03% [31/386] and 2.07% [8/386]) and overall troops of full training (6.16% [9/146] and 0.68% [1/146]) (all P < 0.05). The incidence of single eye blindness was significantly lower and the incidence of poor sight was significantly higher than the data reported by 15 grade three military hospitals (15.28% [118/772] and 10.23% [79/772]) (both P < 0.05). Conclusion: Mechanical injury is the main cause of eye injury in soldiers in Tibet. Eye injury in training has the highest incidence, which may be related to hypoxia at high altitude. More injured eyes are of poor sight or single eye blindness. It is necessary to strengthen treatment capacity of eye injuries and evacuation capacity of military hospitals in Tibet.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of occlusion therapy for patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) infants in Gansu plateau and sub-plateau of China. Methods: A total of 300 PDA infants treated in Gansu Provincial People's Hospital between Jan. 2008 and Jan. 2018, including 123 patients from plateau area and 177 patients from sub-plateau area, were enrolled in this study. Their ages ranged from 6 months to 3 years. Anterior right heart catheter was blocked for measuring pulmonary artery pressure before occlusion during surgery. Different occlusion devices were selected according to the characteristics of PDA during the operation. Occlusion treatment for PDA patients with mild pulmonary hypertension was processed and testing occlusion was given to patients with moderate to severe pulmonary hypertension. After 1, 3, and 6 months follow-up, electrocardiogram, echocardiography and other data were examined, and changes in pulmonary artery pressure were evaluated based on the rate of tricuspid regurgitation. Results: A total of 300 patients receiving angiography showed defects, with the defect diameter being 1-10 (4.5 ± 2.8) mm before operation. After occlusion, 293 infants had no residual shunt. Totally 299 patients were successfully operated, and 97 patients with moderate to severe pulmonary hypertension were tested for hyperoxia and 21 infants with oxygen saturation <95% were given testing occlusion operation. And 235 patients were successfully blocked with PDA occlude, 53 micro-arterial catheters were occluded with German PFM Duct-Occlud, and 11 treated with ventricular septal defect occlude. One case aged 3 years old gave up treatment due to elevation of pulmonary artery pressure immediately after occlusion. Pulmonary systolic pressure and mean pulmonary artery pressure decreased in 299 patients 6 months after operation. Conclusion: Occlusion therapy is a reliable method for PDA infants in plateau and sub-plateau areas of Gansu Province, China, with definite curative effect and high success rate. Testing occlusion is a reliable method for identifying severe pulmonary hypertension, and choosing an appropriate occlusion device according to the individual conditions can achieve promising clinical outcomes.

ABSTRACT

Osteoporosis is a chronic disease influenced by multiple factors. The fractures associated with osteoporosis are known as osteoporotic fractures. The factors associated with osteoporosis and fracture include oxygen concentration, sunshine, body mass, gender, age, trauma, dietary habits, tobacco and alcohol use, medical history and inheritance.Factors such as oxygen concentration, topography and dietary habits play a more important role in the western plateau areas in China than in the plain areas. The present study reviews the clinical research on the osteoporosis and fracture risks in the plateau areas in China and proposes prevention and treatment measurements for the risk factors to reduce the incidences of osteoporosis and fracture in the plateau areas.
