ABSTRACT

Los trastornos autoinmunes representan una familia de al menos 80 condiciones diferentes que surgen de una respuesta aberrante del sistema inmunológico resultando finalmente en la destrucción de tejidos y órganos específicos del cuerpo. Es importante destacar que durante las últimas tres décadas los estudios epidemiológicos han proporcionado evidencia de un aumento constante en la incidencia y prevalencia de trastornos autoinmunes. En los últimos años, varios estudios han demostrado que la vitamina D y los ácidos grasos poliinsaturados (AGPs) omega-3 ejercen propiedades inmunomoduladoras y antiinflamatorias sinérgicas que pueden aprovecharse positivamente para la prevención y el tratamiento de trastornos autoinmunes. En este sentido, el reciente ensayo clínico denominado VITAL (ensayo de vitamina D y omega 3); un estudio a gran escala, aleatorizado, doble ciego, controlado con placebo encontró que la suplementación conjunta de vitamina D y AGPs omega-3 (VIDOM) puede reducir la incidencia de enfermedades autoinmunes. En esta revisión de la literatura, resumimos los mecanismos moleculares detrás de las propiedades inmunomoduladoras y antiinflamatorias de la vitamina D y los AGPs omega-3, así como la posible interacción bidireccional entre el metabolismo de la vitamina D y el metabolismo de los AGPs omega-3 que justifica la co- suplementación VIDOM en trastornos autoinmunes(AU)


Autoimmune disorders represent a family of at least 80 different conditions that arise from an aberrant immune system response, which ultimately results in the destruction of specific body tissues and organs. It is important to highlight that during the last three decades epidemiological studies have provided evidence of a steady increase in the incidence and prevalence of autoimmune disorders. In recent years, several studies have shown that vitamin D and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) exert synergistic immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties that can be positively harnessed for the prevention and treatment of autoimmune disorders. In this sense, the recent clinical trial called VITAL (Vitamin D and Omega 3 trial) - a large, randomized, double-blind, placebo- controlled study - found that co-supplementation of vitamin D and omega-3 PUFAs (VIDOM) can reduce the incidence of autoimmune diseases. In this literature review, we summarize the molecular mechanisms behind the immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties of vitamin D and omega-3 PUFAs, as well as the possible bidirectional interaction between vitamin D metabolism and omega-3 PUFA metabolism that justifies VIDOM co- supplementation in autoimmune disorders(AU)

ABSTRACT

Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is known for its health benefits, although it provides a minimum amount of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA), which play an important role in the human organism. In this study, EVOO was blended with vegetable oils which are rich sources of n-3 PUFA alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) and/or stearidonic acid (SDA) (chia, walnut, linseed and viper's bugloss seed oils). Fatty acid profiles, induction time, and organoleptic characteristics of the resulting blends were assessed. The n-3 PUFA enrichment in the blends was proportional to the degree of blending. Sensory analysis carried out by a trained panel showed that it is possible to enrich EVOO with up to 20% chia, linseed and viper's bugloss seed oil without altering the original organoleptic characteristics of EVOO. However, the induction time of the blends was significantly reduced compared with EVOO even after adding n-3 PUFA in small proportions, meaning that shelf-life time of these blends is much lower than that of EVOO, which should be considered when preparing these products for commercial purposes.


El aceite de oliva extra virgen (AOEV) es ampliamente conocido por sus beneficios para la salud, aunque apenas aporta ácidos grasos poliinsaturados n-3 (AGPI n-3), los cuales juegan un papel importante en el organismo humano. En este estudio se elaboraron mezclas de AOEV con aceites vegetales ricos en ácido alfa-linolénico (ALA) y/o estearidónico (SDA) (chia, nuez, linaza y viborera). Se evaluaron los perfiles de ácidos grasos, tiempos de inducción y características organolépticas de las mezclas resultantes. El enriquecimiento en AGPI n-3 fue proporcional al grado de mezcla. El análisis sensorial llevado a cabo por un panel entrenado mostró que es posible enriquecer AOEV con hasta un 20% de aceite de chia, linaza o viborera sin alterar las características organolépticas originales del AOEV. Sin embargo, los tiempos de inducción de las mezclas fueron significativamente menores que el del AOEV, incluso tras añadir AGPI n-3 en pequeñas proporciones, lo que significa que el tiempo de vida media de las mezclas es mucho menor que el del AOEV. Este hecho debería tenerse en cuenta al preparar las mezclas con propósitos comerciales.

ABSTRACT

Introducción: La alimentación en la primera infancia influencia la instauración del tejido adiposo y el desarrollo de diversas patologías en la edad adulta. Objetivo: Evaluar la influencia del consumo de tres fuentes de ácidos grasos sobre parámetros sanguíneos y tejido adiposo en pollos recién eclosionados. Materiales y métodos: Se utilizaron 76 pollitos Cobb 500 distribuidos aleatoriamente en cuatro tratamientos, que fueron alimentados durante siete días con una de las cuatro dietas (T1: 97% Dieta basal (DB); T2: DB +3% de manteca vegetal parcialmente hidrogenada; T3: DB +3% de aceite de quinua y T4: DB +3% de aceite de pescado). Al finalizar, se evaluó en sangre glucosa, colesterol, triglicéridos y tamaño de adipocitos del tejido adiposo subcutáneo y visceral. Se aplicó ANOVA considerando 0,05 de significancia y en el caso de variables no distribuidas normalmente, se aplicó el test no paramétrico de Kruskal-Wallis mediante el programa R-Studio. Resultados: Se obtuvieron diferencias significativas con disminución de los niveles de glucosa y colesterol en animales suplementados con elevada proporción de aceites insaturados (T3 y T4) en comparación a T2. Los tratamientos T3 y T4 promovieron una formación hiperplásica de adipocitos, diferenciándose significativamente de T2, que promovió la hipertrofia en dichas células, esta respuesta fue similar en ambos depósitos subcutáneos. Conclusiones: El consumo de aceite de quinua y aceite de pescado promueve la formación de tejido adiposo saludable, y reducen los niveles de glucosa y colesterol. Contrariamente el consumo de manteca vegetal propicia la hipertrofia de adipocitos de gran tamaño e incrementa los parámetros bioquímicos evaluados(AU)


Introduction: Feeding in early childhood influences the establishment of adipose tissue, and therefore also in the development of various pathologies in adulthood. Objective: To evaluate the influence of the consumption of three sources of fatty acids on blood parameters and adipose tissue at an early age. Materials and methods: 76 Cobb 500 chicks randomly distributed in four treatments were used, who were fed for seven days with one of the four diets (T1: Basal diet; T2: DB +1.0% vegetable shortening partially hydrogenated; T3: DB +1.0% quinoa oil and DB +1.0% fish oil) until the seventh day of life. At the end, glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides and adipocyte size of the subcutaneous and visceral adipose tissue were evaluated. A completely randomized design with ANOVA considering 0.05 significance was applied and in the case of non-normally distributed variables, the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test was applied using the R-Studio program. Results: Significant differences were obtained with a decrease in glucose and cholesterol levels in animals supplemented with unsaturated oils (T3 and T4) compared to T2. Regarding the size of adipocytes, treatments T3 and T4 promoted a hyperplastic formation of adipocytes, differing significantly from T2, which promoted hypertrophy in these cells, this response was similar in both subcutaneous deposits. Conclusions: The consumption of quinoa oil and fish oil promote the formation of healthy adipose tissue, in addition to reducing glucose and cholesterol levels. In contrast, the consumption of vegetable shortening favors the hypertrophy of large adipocytes and increases the biochemical parameters evaluated(AU)

RESUMEN Los alimentos de origen marino se caracterizan en general por su alto contenido en ácidos eicosapentaenoico (EPA) y docosahexaenoico (DHA), dos ácidos grasos poliinsaturados de la familia n-3 con funciones esenciales en el organismo humano. En Chile, las conservas de pescado, entre ellas el atún enlatado, son una de las formas principales de consumo de alimentos del mar. En este trabajo se analizaron los perfiles de ácidos grasos y se estimaron varios índices de calidad nutricional de distintas conservas de lomos de atún en agua y en aceite vegetal disponibles en supermercados de Santiago de Chile. Las cantidades de EPA+DHA encontradas oscilaron entre 184 y 310 mg/100 g y entre 110 y 336 mg/100 g en las conservas de atún en agua y en aceite, respectivamente. El ácido graso más abundante en las conservas de atún en agua fue el DHA, mientras que en las conservas en aceite fue el ácido linoleico, perteneciente a la familia n-6. Los índices de calidad lipídica del pescado (FLQ) y aterogénico (IA) fueron más altos en las conservas de atún en agua que en las de atún en aceite, mientras que la relación ácidos grasos hipocolesterolémicos/hipercolesterolémicos (HH) presentó valores mayores en el atún enlatado en aceite. El índice trombogénico (IT) fue en general más alto en las conservas de atún en aceite.


ABSTRACT Foods from marine origin are known to have a high content of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), two polyunsaturated fatty acids from the n-3 family with essential roles in the human organism. Canned fish, including tuna, is one of the main formats to consume marine foods in Chile. In this work, samples of canned tuna in water and in oil available in supermarkets of Santiago de Chile were analysed to elucidate their fatty acid composition and to estimate several indexes of nutritional quality related to the lipid fraction of such foods. The amounts of EPA+DHA ranged between 184 and 310 mg/100 g and between 110 and 336 mg/100 g for canned tuna in water and oil, respectively. DHA was the most abundant fatty acid in canned tuna in water, whereas linolenic acid (an n-6 fatty acid) was found to be the most abundant in canned tuna in oil. The Fish Lipid Quality (FLQ) and atherogenic index (AI) reached higher values in canned tuna in water than in canned tuna in oil, whereas the ratio hypocholesterolemic/hypercholesterolemic fatty acids (HH) was higher in canned tuna in oil. The thrombogenic index (TI) was generally higher for canned tuna in oil.

ABSTRACT We designed a chicken-meat hamburger enriched with ω3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and cooked by sous-vide. The chicken meat used came from male BB chickens of the Cobb commercial line, fed for approximately 27 days with 3 isoprotein and isoenergetic diets based on: corn and soy; soybeans plus flax oil and soybeans plus fish oil. The hamburgers, made with a mixture of fresh skinless chicken breast and thigh meat, oat bran and a commercial mix of spices, were vacuum-packed and cooked at 80 °C for 10 min. Chemical analyses (moisture, fat, protein, fiber, thiobarbituric acid and fatty acid profile), color and texture profile were performed. The samples enriched with fish oil presented significantly higher values of docosapentaenoic acid (1.53 g of fatty acid per 100 g of fat) than the control sample (0.30 g of fatty acid per 100 g of fat). The sensory characterization was carried out by 54 consumers using the CATA methodology (check all that apply). The chicken-meat hamburger enriched with fish-ω3 oil was the most widely accepted by consumers. Therefore, a functional food product enriched with ω3 polyunsaturated acid close to the daily recommendation (250 mg) was designed. The sensory acceptability of consumers was found based on a pleasant taste, pleasant appearance and chicken flavor.


RESUMEN Se diseñó una hamburguesa de carne de pollo enriquecida con ácidos grasos ω3 poliinsaturados y cocida al vacío. La carne de pollo provino de pollos BB machos de la línea comercial Cobb, alimentados durante aproximadamente 27 días con 3 dietas isoproteicas e isoenergéticas en base a: maíz y soja; soja más aceite de lino y soja más aceite de pescado. Las hamburguesas, elaboradas con una mezcla de carne fresca de pechuga y pata muslo de pollo sin piel, salvado de avena y mezcla comercial de especias, se envasaron y cocinaron al vacío a 80 °C durante 10 min. Se realizaron análisis químicos (humedad, grasa, proteína, fibra, ácido tiobarbitúrico y perfil de ácidos grasos), color y perfil de textura. Las muestras enriquecidas con aceite de pescado presentaron valores significativamente mayores de ácidos docosapentaenoico (1,53 g de ácido graso por 100 g de grasa) que la muestra control (0,30 g de ácido graso por 100 g de grasa). La caracterización sensorial fue realizada por 54 consumidores utilizando la metodología CATA (marque todo lo que corresponda). La hamburguesa de pollo y enriquecida con aceite de pescado ω3 fue la más aceptada por los consumidores. Por lo tanto, se diseñó un producto alimenticio funcional en forma de hamburguesa de pollo que se enriqueció con ω3 poliinsaturados cerca de la recomendación diaria (250 mg), y se consideró un producto aceptable por el consumidor sobre la base del sabor agradable, apariencia agradable y sabor a pollo.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a global health problem. Dietary factors, especially fatty acids, may affect MS pathology. However, the associations between omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) and MS risk demonstrate inconsistent results. To clarify the relationship between dietary n-3 PUFA and endothelial function on MS, we carried out a systematic review. An electronic literature search based on controlled clinical trials (CCTs) between 2004 and 2020 was conducted. A total of 28 articles were included in the systematic review. Studies were analyzed according intervention type: dietary interventions (12 CCTs), dietary supplementation interventions (9 CCTs) and mixed interventions (7 CCTs). Studies with dietary interventions characterized by n-3 PUFAs increased by food source, such as Mediterranean and Nordic-style diets, reported significant reduction in systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and also in inflammatory endothelial biomarkers. The same effect was also observed in mixed interventions and in CCTs with n-3 PUFAs supplementation. Dietary interventions with n-3 PUFAs contributes to improved endothelial and cardiovascular health in SM and associated risk factors.


RESUMEN El síndrome metabólico (SM) es un problema sanitario global. Los factores dietéticos, especialmente los ácidos grasos, pueden afectar la patología del SM. Sin embargo, las asociaciones entre los ácidos grasos poliinsaturados omega-3 (AGPI n-3) y el riesgo de SM pueden ser inconsistentes. Para aclarar esta relación entre AGPI n-3 dietarios y la función endotelial en el SM, realizamos una revisión sistemática. Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica en fuentes electrónicas de ensayos clínicos controlados (ECC) entre 2004 y 2020. Se incluyeron un total de 28 artículos en la revisión. Los estudios fueron analizados según intervención realizada: intervención dietaria (12 ECC), intervención con suplementación dietética (9 ECC) e intervenciones mixtas (7 ECC). Los estudios que utilizaron intervenciones dietéticas con aumento de AGPI n-3 a través de alimentos, como las dietas mediterráneas y nórdicas, reportaron una reducción significativa de la presión arterial sistólica (PAS), diastólica (PAD) y de biomarcadores endoteliales inflamatorios. El mismo efecto se observó en intervenciones mixtas y ECC con suplementación de AGPI n-3. Las intervenciones dietéticas con AGPI n-3 contribuyen a mejorar la salud endotelial y cardiovascular y sus factores de riesgo asociados.

Introducción: Los ácidos grasos polinsaturados de cadena larga son esenciales en la nutrición del feto y del recién nacido. Objetivo: Examinar la importancia de los ácidos grasos poliinsaturados durante el embarazo y la lactancia, para destacar los requerimientos, las recomendaciones y fuentes alimentarias. Métodos: Se realizó una revisión sistemática de la literatura internacional de los últimos 15 años en bases de datos, en español y en inglés. Se utilizaron las siguientes palabras clave: embarazo, lactancia, ácidos grasos poliinsaturados, omega 3/6, fuentes y requerimientos. Se identificaron los aspectos más relevantes y controversiales. Resultados: El ácido araquidónico y docosahexaenoico influyen sobre el perfil lipídico, la sensibilidad a la insulina, la proliferación y diferenciación de los preadipocitos. Sus concentraciones durante la gestación resultan uno de los principales factores responsables de la programación fetal, que son las adaptaciones metabólicas que condicionan la evolución de la salud futura. Concentraciones óptimas de ácidos grasos omega 3 y 6 son vitales para el desarrollo neurológico del feto y del recién nacido. La funcionalidad de la placenta puede afectar la adiposidad y los niveles fetales de nutrientes clave, como los ácidos grasos poliinsaturados de cadena larga. Conclusiones: La dieta es uno de los principales factores ambientales durante la gestación. La lactancia materna es la mejor alternativa nutricional durante el primer año de vida, por eso es fundamental promocionarla. Es importante ofrecer una asistencia adecuada y generar estrategias que estimulen el consumo de ácidos omega-3 como una herramienta de prevención a largo plazo(AU)


Introduction: Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids are essential in the nutrition of the fetus and newborns. Objective: Examine the importance of polyunsaturated fatty acids during pregnancy and lactation to highlight food requirements, recommendations and sources. Methods: A systematic review of the international literature of the last 15 years was carried out in databases, in Spanish and English, using the following keywords: pregnancy, lactation, polyunsaturated fatty acids, omega 3/6, sources and requirements. The most relevant and controversial aspects were identified. Results: Arachydonic and docosahexaenoic acid influence lipid profile, insulin sensitivity, proliferation and differentiation of preadipocytes. Their levels during gestation are one of the main factors responsible for fetal programming that are metabolic adaptations conditioning the evolution of future health. Optimal levels of omega-3 and 6 fatty acids are vital for the neurological development of the fetus and newborn. Placenta´s functionality can affect adiposity and fetal levels of key nutrients, such as long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. Conclusions: Diet is one of the main environmental factors during gestation. Breastfeeding is the best nutritional alternative during the first year of life, which is why it is essential to promote it. It is important to provide adequate assistance and generate strategies that stimulate the consumption of omega-3 acids as a long-term prevention tool(AU)

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to develop and validate a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) for assessing consumption of fatty acids among pregnant women. METHODS: Two lists of foods were created according to percent contribution of each nutrient estimated by three 24-hour recalls: a long and short version FFQ to estimate long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFAs). Student paired t-test and Pearson correlation coefficients were used to verify the differences in mean consumption of nutrients from the FFQ and 24-hour recall. The concordance between the consumption values of the two methods was assessed using the Bland-Altman method and quartiles concordance. RESULTS: For the FFQ - long version, correlation values ranged from 0.33 (<0.05) to 0.62 (<0.01) for docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and linoleic acid (LA), respectively. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosapentaenoic acid (DPA) were not correlated. Exact concordance ranged from 49.0% (energy) to 22.4% (EPA), and discordance ranged from 14.3% (DPA) to 2.0% (Saturated). The FFQ - short version had high correlations for LCPUFAs. Exact concordance ranged from 36.7% (n-3 LCPUFA) to 16.3% (DHA); and discordance from 12.2% (DPA) to 2.0% (arachidonic acid). Bland-Altman analysis showed good concordance for both versions. CONCLUSION: This nutrient-specific FFQ is a valid instrument to be used to estimate the level of consumption of fatty acids among pregnant women.


OBJETIVO: Este estudio tuvo como objetivo desarrollar y validar un cuestionario de frecuencia de consumo de alimentos para evaluar el consumo de ácidos grasos en gestantes. MÉTODOS: Dos listas de alimentos fueron creadas de acuerdo con la contribución porcentual de cada nutriente estimado por 3 recordatorios de 24 horas: CFC - versión larga y CFC - versión corta para estimar ácidos grasos poliinsaturados de cadena larga (AGPICL). La prueba de t pareada de Student y el coeficiente de correlación de Pearson se utilizaron para verificar las diferencias entre el consumo medio de nutrientes de del CFC y el recordatorio de 24 horas. La concordancia entre los valores de consumo de los dos métodos se evaluó mediante el método de Bland-Altman y la concordancia de cuartiles. RESULTADOS: En CFC - versión larga, los valores de correlación oscilaron entre 0.33 (<0.05) y 0.62 (<0.01) para ácido docosahexaenoico (DHA) y ácido linoleico (LA), respectivamente. Ácido eicosapentaenoico (EPA) y ácido docosapentaenoico (DPA) no presentaron correlación. La concordancia exacta varió de 49,0% (energía) a 22,4% (EPA), y la discordancia varió de 14,3% (DPA) a 2,0% (saturado). CFC: la versión corta mostró los mejores valores de correlaciones para los AGPICL. La concordancia exacta varió de 36,7 (n-3 LCPUFA) a 16,3% (DHA); y discordancia de 12,2% (DPA) a 2,0% (ácido araquidónico). El análisis de Bland-Altman mostró una buena concordancia para ambas versiones. CONCLUSIÓN: Este método CFC específico de nutrientes es un instrumento válido que se utiliza para estimar el nivel de consumo de ácidos grasos en mujeres gestantes.

ABSTRACT

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o perfil lipídico de alguns peixes e derivados de pescado por meio de amostras de produtos comprados em estabelecimentos comerciais. Foram realizadas a extração dos lipídeos, esterificação e análise cromatográfica para a determinação do perfil de ácidos graxos. Houve diferença em relação à composição dos ácidos graxos (C14:0; C16:1; C18:3ω3; C22:0; C20:5ω3 (EPA) e C22:6ω3 (DHA)) e na relação ω6/ω3. Os produtos derivados de pescado possuem relação ω6/ω3 maiores que os peixes, devendo-se ao processo de beneficiamento a que foram submetidos. O ácido graxo eicosapentaenóico (EPA) apresentou maiores concentrações na sardinha, diferentemente do ácido docosahexaenóico (DHA) que está mais presente no atum, evidenciando que ambos os pescados são boas fontes para obtenção destes ácidos graxos ω3.

O presente estudo foi realizado com o objetivo de avaliar o perfil lipídico de produtos comercializados como enriquecidos com ácidos graxos ω3. Foi realizada a extração, esterificação e determinação cromatográfica dos ácidos graxos. Foram encontradas maiores concentrações dos ácidos graxos (C18:2ω6c), total de ácidos graxos ω6 e maior relação ω6/ ω3 para margarina. O salmão apresentou os maiores valores para os ácidos graxos C18:1ω9C, C18:3ω3 e total de monoinsaturados. Nas avaliações do suplemento foram encontradas as maiores concentrações dos ácidos graxos C20:5ω3 (EPA), C22:6ω3 (DHA) e total de ω3. Nos alimentos que são enriquecidos com ω3, a quantidade de EPA e DHA são baixas, sendo maiores de ácido linolênico (C18:3ω3). Nutricionalmente o suplemento de EPA e DHA e o salmão foram as melhores fontes de ácidos graxos ω3. E, todos os produtos apresentaram bons índices de aterogenicidade e trombogenicidade.

ABSTRACT

A suplementação diária com ácidos graxos poli-insaturados de ômega-3 (ω-3) e a aspirina em baixa dosagem foram propostas como terapia de modulação do hospedeiro para o tratamento de doenças inflamatórias crônicas. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar as ações clínicas e imunológicas do ω-3 e da aspirina (AAS) como terapia adjunta ao debridamento periodontal de boca toda para o tratamento da periodontite em pacientes com diabetes tipo 2. Setenta e cinco pacientes (n=25/grupo) que atendiam aos critérios de inclusão foram randomicamente designados para receber placebo e debridamento periodontal (GC), ω-3 (3g de óleo de peixe/dia por 60 dias) e AAS (100mg/dia por 60 dias) após o debridamento periodontal (GT1), e (3g de óleo de peixe/dia por 60 dias) e AAS (100mg/dia por 60 dias) antes do debridamento periodontal (GT2). Parâmetros clínicos periodontais e fluido gengival crevicular (FGC) foram coletados no baseline (t0), 90 dias (GT1 e GC) (t1), após a suplementação/medicação com ω-3 e AAS (t1), e 180 dias após o debridamento periodontal (todos os grupos) (t2). Dez pacientes (40%) no GT1 e nove pacientes (36%) no GT2 alcançaram o endpoint clínico para o tratamento (≤4 bolsas periodontais com profundidade de sondagem (PS)≥ 5mm), em contraste com quatro (16%) no GC. Houve ganho de inserção em bolsas moderadas e em bolsas profundas entre t0 e t2 para o GT1. Os níveis de concentração de IFN-γ, IL-1ß e IL-8 apresentaram redução em t2 para os dois grupos teste, com mudanças significantes prévias (t1) para o GT1. Os níveis de IL-6 apresentaram redução em t1 e em t2 para o GT1, e a MIP-1α reduziu em t2 no GT2. No GC a IL-1ß foi a única citocina a apresentar diferença estatisticamente significante na comparação entre tempos. Os resultados deste estudo clínico sugerem que a terapia adjuvante de ω-3 a AAS após o debridamento periodontal promove maiores benefícios clínicos e imunológicos ao tratamento da periodontite em pacientes com diabetes tipo 2 quando comparado aos demais protocolos avaliados(AU)


Daily dietary supplementation with omega-3 (ω-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and low-dose aspirin (ASA) have been proposed as a host modulation therapy for the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical and immunological actions of ω-3 PUFAs and ASA as an adjunct therapy to full-mouth periodontal debridement for the treatment of periodontitis in patients with type 2 diabetes. Seventy-five patients (n=25/group) meeting the inclusion criteria were randomly assigned to receive placebo and periodontal debridement (CG), ω-3 (3g of fish oil/day for 60 days) and ASA (100mg/day for 60 days) after periodontal debridement (TG1), and ω-3 (3g of fish oil/day for 60 days) and ASA (100mg/day for 60 days) before periodontal debridement (TG2). Periodontal clinical parameters and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) were collected at baseline (t0), 90 days (TG1 and CG) (t1), after ω-3 and ASA only (TG2) (t1), and 180 days after periodontal debridement (all groups) (t2). Ten patients (40%) in TG1 and nine patients (36%) in TG2 achieved the clinical endpoint for treatment (≤4 periodontal pockets with probing depth (PD)≥ 5mm), as opposed to four (16%) in CG. There was clinical attachment gain in moderate and deep pockets between t0 and t2 for TG1. Concentration levels of IFN-γ, IL-1ß, and IL-8 decreased over time for both test groups, with early (t1) significant changes for TG1. IL-6 levels were lower at t1 and t2 for TG1, and MIP-1α decreased at t2 for TG2. In the CG, IL1ß was the only marker presenting statistically significant changes over time. The results of this clinical study suggest that the adjunctive use of ω-3 and ASA after periodontal debridement provides clinical and immunological benefits to the treatment of periodontitis in patients with type 2 diabetes when compared to the other treatment protocols evaluated(AU)

AIMS: To investigate the effects of resistance exercise and fish oil intake on muscle morphology in Wistar rats. METHODS: Forty-eight animals that performed resistance exercise were initially divided into two groups. One group did not take fish oil and the other group took fish oil. The animals of the second group underwent training and took fish oil for eight weeks. At the end of the last resistance exercise session, the 48 rats were organized into six subgroups of eight each, according to the time gap (12, 24 or 48 hours) elapsed until the gastrocnemius muscle withdrawal procedure. At each established time after the last resistance exercise session, the gastrocnemius muscle was removed for morphological analysis. RESULTS: Skeletal muscle cells of the animals that did not receive fish oil presented higher scores of edema, especially those from the groups that had their muscles withdrawn at 24 and 48 hours of time gap. As for the group that took fish oil, we observed a smaller amount of inflammatory infiltrate and reduced areas of necrosis compared to animals that exercised without the use of fish oil, at all post-exercise time gaps. CONCLUSIONS: Fish oil intake attenuated morphological changes in muscle tissue after high-intensity exercises


OBJETIVOS: Investigar os efeitos do exercício resistido e da ingestão de óleo de peixe na morfologia da fibra muscular em ratos Wistar. MÉTODOS: Quarenta e oito animais realizaram exercício resistido e foram divididos inicialmente em dois grupos. Um dos grupos não recebia óleo de peixe e o outro grupo ingeria o óleo de peixe. Os animais do segundo grupo realizaram o treinamento e ingeriram o óleo de peixe por um período de oito semanas. Ao final da última sessão de exercício resistido os animais foram organizados em seis subgrupos de oito cada, segundo o intervalo de tempo (12, 24 e 48 horas) transcorrido até o procedimento de retirada do músculo gastrocnêmio. Em cada tempo determinado após a última sessão de exercício resistido, o músculo gastrocnêmio foi retirado para análise morfológica. RESULTADOS: As células do músculo esquelético dos animais que não receberam óleo de peixe apresentaram escores maiores de edema, especialmente as dos grupos que tiveram os músculos retirados em 24 e 48 horas. No grupo que ingeriu o óleo de peixe observou-se menor quantidade de infiltrado inflamatório e áreas de necrose reduzidas em comparação com os animais que se exercitavam sem o uso de óleo de peixe, em todos os intervalos de tempo pós-exercício. CONCLUSÕES: A ingestão de óleo de peixe atenuou as alterações morfológicas no tecido muscular após exercícios de alta intensidade.

Abstract Background: Demand for naturally enriched foods is increasing worldwide. Animal nutrition allows incorporating nutraceutical molecules into milk. These molecules are intended for improving human health. Objective: To evaluate the effects of pelleting and monensin addition to the diet on intake, digestibility of dry matter (DM) and nutrients, milk yield and composition, and fatty acids (FA) profile in cows kept on pasture and supplemented with concentrate containing ground flaxseed (GF). Methods: Four Holstein cows were assigned to the following treatments: 1) concentrate with GF; 2) GF + 32.93 mg/Kg monensin (GFM); 3) GF pelleted (GFP); 4) GF pelleted + 32.93 mg/Kg monensin (FMP). Results: Treatments did not show effects on digestibility of dry matter (DM) and nutrients or feed intake, with the exception of ether extract intake, which was reduced by 28% with pelleting. Addition of monensin increased the conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) concentration by 47%. Pelleting increased the concentrations of CLA (70%), polyunsaturated FA (PUFA; 25%), and monounsaturated FA (MUFA; 16%), and reduced the concentrations of steric acid (C18) in 19% and total saturated FA (SFA; 14%). Conclusion: Pelleting and monensin does not alter feed intake and digestibility of DM and nutrients. Pelleting of concentrate feed containing flaxseed improves milk FA quality.


Resumen Antecedentes: La demanda por alimentos naturalmente enriquecidos se ha venido incrementado en todo el mundo. A través de la nutrición animal es posible incorporar moléculas nutracéuticas en la leche. El uso de estas moléculas pretende mejorar la salud humana. Objetivo: Evaluar los efectos de la peletización y la monensina sobre la ingesta, digestibilidad de la materia seca (DM) y nutrientes, producción de leche, composición y perfil de ácidos grasos (FA) en leche de vacas en pastoreo que consumen alimento concentrado formulado con linaza molida (GF). Métodos: Cuatro vacas Holstein fueron distribuidas en los siguientes tratamientos: 1) ración conteniendo GF; 2) GF + 32,93 mg/Kg de monensina (GFM); 3) GF en pellets (GFP); 4) GF en pellets + 32,93 mg/Kg de monensina (FMP). Resultados: Los tratamientos no mostraron efectos en el consumo y digestibilidad de la DM y nutrientes, excepto por el consumo de extracto etéreo, con una reducción del 28% en las raciones peletizadas. La monensina incrementó la concentración de ácido linoleico conjugado (CLA) en 47%. La peletización aumentó el contenido de CLA (70%), FA poliinsaturados (PUFA; 25%) y FA monoinsaturados (16%); y redujo las concentraciones de C18 en 19%, y FA saturados total en 14%. Conclusión: El peletizado y la monensina no alteran la ingesta de alimento ni la digestibilidad de la DM y nutrientes. El proceso de peletizado aplicado a concentrados que contienen linaza mejora la calidad de los ácidos grasos de la leche.

ABSTRACT

Objetivo: descrever uma revisão da literatura sobre a importância dos ácidos graxos ômega-3 e da vitamina D na prevenção e tratamento da depressão. Metodologia: essa revisão foi feita no período de agosto, setembro de 2016, incluindo as publicações de 2000 a 2016. Procedeu-se a busca nas bases de dados Pubmed, Science Direct, Bireme e periódicos CAPES com a utilização dos descritores: "ômega-3", "docosahexaenoic acid", "DHA", "eicosapentaenoic acid", "EPA", "vitamin D" e "depression". Resultados: a literatura reporta vários estudos sobre a eficácia dos ácidos graxos ômega-3 no tratamento da depressão. No entanto, existe um número considerável de trabalhos que não demonstram eficácia dos ácidos graxos ômega-3 na depressão. Os fatores responsáveis pelos resultados variados são: modelos experimentais, diferenças de tamanho da amostra, diferenças biológicas e genéticas entre os doentes, a variabilidade ambiental, e variabilidade na resposta à ácidos graxos ômega-3. Em relação a vitamina D, os resultados também são contraditórios, com evidências sugerindo que baixos níveis dessa vitamina podem estar associados a um maior risco de depressão. Conclusão: não é possível afirmar que consumir alimentos ricos em ômega-3 e vitamina D, juntamente com o uso de fármacos possam aliviar os sintomas depressivos.


Objective: to describe a literature review on the importance of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D in the depression prevention and treatment. Methodology: this review was done in August / September, 2016, including publications from 2000 to 2016. Pubmed, Science Direct, Bireme and Journals CAPES databases were searched using the descriptors: "omega-3", " Docosahexaenoic acid "," DHA "," eicosapentaenoic acid "," EPA "," vitamin D" and "depression ". Results: the literature report several studies on the efficacy of omega-3 fatty acids in the depression treatment. However, there are a number of studies that don't demonstrate efficacy of omega-3 fatty acids in depression. The factors responsible for the varied results are: experimental models, differences in sample size, biological and genetics differences among patients, environmental variability, and variability in response to omega-3 fatty acids. There are many researches with contradictory results regarding vitamin D, with evidence suggesting that low levels of this vitamin may be associated with an increased risk of depression. Conclusion: it can't be affirm that consume foods rich in omega-3 and vitamin D along with the use of pharmaceuticals products may alleviate depressive symptoms.

Abstract: Over the past decade, some studies have addressed the therapeutic effects of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (ω-3 PUFAs) and the opposite effects of omega-6 (ω-6) PUFAs on several diseases, including cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer. Research demonstrates the safety of these naturally occurring ingredients. Of particular interest, several studies have shown that ω-3 PUFAs possess a therapeutic role against certain types of cancer. It is also known that ω-3 PUFAs can improve the efficacy and tolerability of chemotherapy. Previous reports have indicated that suppression of nuclear factor-κB, activation of AMPK/SIRT1, modulation of cyclooxygenase (COX) activity, and up-regulation of novel anti-inflammatory lipid mediators such as protectins, maresins, and resolvins, are the main mechanisms of the antineoplastic effect of ω-3 PUFAs. In contrast, several studies have demonstrated that ω-6 PUFAs induce progression in certain types of cancer. In this review, we discuss epidemiological and experimental studies addressing the relationship between the development of some types of cancer, including colon and colorectal carcinoma, breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer and neuroblastoma, and the ingestion to ω-3 and ω-6 (PUFAs). We also discuss the clinical data, addressing the therapeutic role of omega-3 PUFA against different types of cancer.


Resumen: Durante las últimas décadas algunos estudios se han enfocado en los efectos terapéuticos de los ácidos grasos poliinsaturados (AGPI) omega-3 (ω-3) y los efectos contrarios de los AGPI omega-6 (ω-6) en diversas enfermedades, incluyendo enfermedades cardiovasculares, diabetes, enfermedades neurodegenerativas y cáncer. Las investigaciones han mostrado la seguridad de estos lípidos naturales. En particular, varios estudios han mostrado que los AGPI ω-3 poseen un efecto terapéutico contra ciertos tipos de cáncer. También se sabe que los AGPI ω-3 pueden mejorar la eficacia y tolerancia de la quimioterapia. En publicaciones anteriores se ha indicado que la supresión del factor nuclear κB, la activación de AMPK/SIRT1, la modulación de la actividad de la ciclooxigenasa (COX) y la regulación positiva de nuevos mediadores lipídicos antiinflamatorios como las protectinas, maresinas y resolvinas, son los principales mecanismos del efecto antineoplásico de los AGPI ω-3. En contraste, otros estudios han demostrado que los AGPI ω-6 inducen la progresión de ciertos tipos de cáncer. En esta revisión se discuten algunos estudios experimentales y epidemiológicos que abordan la relación entre el desarrollo de algunos tipos de cáncer, como carcinoma de colon y colorrectal, cáncer de mama, próstata y pulmón, así como neuroblastoma, y la ingestión de AGPI ω-3 y ω-6. Así mismo, se discuten los datos clínicos sobre el papel terapéutico del AGPI ω-3 contra diferentes tipos de cáncer.

ABSTRACT

In general, Taurus bulls under tropical conditions demonstrate reduced fertility due to heat and oxidative stress on testicular tissue. This high incidence of sperm damage is generally enhanced by the large amount of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) naturally present in bull sperm. Despite PUFA increase cellular sensitivity to lipid peroxidation, they are essential for membrane fluidity and also promote high cellular protection during cryopreservation process. Some reports related that animals and plants provided from cold weather present higher cellular concentration of PUFA, so the present study aims to compare the effect of the season on sperm quality of Taurus and Zebu bulls. Cryoprotected semen samples of 10 Nelore (Bos taurus indicus) and 10 Simmental (Bos taurus taurus) bulls were analyzed during winter and summer seasons. After freezing-thawing process, semen samples were submitted to sperm motility and vigor analysis, to tests of plasma membrane integrity (MPIEosin/Nigrosin), acrosomal integrity (MAI-POPE), DNA fragmentation degree (DNAf-Comet Assay) and high mitochondrial activity (ACM-DAB). Moreover, frozen-thawed semen samples were induced to lipid peroxidation for measurement of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration. Higher post-thawing sperm motility (26.50% winter; 13.30% summer) and ACM (22.34% winter; 13.30% summer) were observed during the winter in Nelore group. In Simmental group, no differences were observed for the studied variables. It was concluded that, despite the heat stress, no seasonal effect on sperm quality was observed in Taurus cattle, which may be related to higher concentration of PUFA in seminal composition.


Bovinos taurinos, em clima tropical, mostram menores índices de fertilidade devido ao estresse térmico e oxidativo testicular. Essa alta incidência de alterações espermáticas é potencializada pela grande quantidade de ácidos graxos poli-insaturados (PUFA) presentes nos espermatozoides taurinos. Embora os PUFA aumentem a sensibilidade celular à peroxidação lipídica, são essenciais para a maleabilidade de membrana e promovem maior proteção celular durante a criopreservação. Devido aos relatos de que animais e vegetais de clima frio possuem maior concentração de PUFA nas células, o presente estudo teve como objetivo comparar o efeito da estação do ano sobre a qualidade espermática de taurinos e zebuínos. Foram avaliadas amostras criopreservadas de 10 touros da raça Nelore (Bos taurus indicus) e 10 da raça Simental (Bos taurus taurus), coletadas durante inverno e verão. Após a descongelação, foram realizados testes espermáticos de motilidade e vigor, testes de integridade de membrana plasmática (MPIEosina/Nigrosina), integridade acrossomal (MAI-POPE), grau de fragmentação de DNA (DNAf-Ensaio Cometa) e atividade citoquímica mitocondrial (ACM-DAB). Adicionalmente, avaliou-se a suscetibilidade das células espermáticas à peroxidação lipídica induzida, pela mensuração das substâncias reativas ao ácido tiobarbitúrico (TBARS) e malondialdeído (MDA). No grupo Nelore, foi observada maior motilidade espermática pós-descongelação (26,50% inverno; 13,30% verão) e maior ACM (22,34% inverno; 13,30% verão) durante o inverno. No grupo Simental, não houve diferença de época do ano nas variáveis. Concluiu-se que, apesar de sofrerem maior estresse térmico, nos animais taurinos não foi observado efeito da estação do ano sobre a qualidade espermática, o que pode estar relacionado a uma maior concentração de PUFA em sua composição seminal.

Diversos estudos têm demonstrado a habilidade dos ácidos graxos ômega-3 em reduzir asconcentrações de proteína C-reativa (PCR), eicosanoides pró-inflamatórios, citocinas, quimiocinas e de outros biomarcadores da inflamação. Por essas propriedades, a suplementação com essa classe de lipídeos pode representar terapia adicional ao tratamento de doençasinflamatórias crônicas sistêmicas, como o lúpus eritematoso sistêmico (LES) e outrasdoenças reumáticas. O papel dessa classe de lipídeos no LES ainda não está bem estabelecido. No entanto, parece haver relação entre o consumo deste tipo de gordura e a diminuiçãodas manifestações e da atividade inflamatória da doença. Sendo assim, este artigo apresentarevisão da literatura científica sobre os efeitos dos ácidos graxos ômega-3 em pacientescom LES. Realizou-se levantamento bibliográfico junto aos bancos de dados Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) e Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), utizando-se como palavras-chave: lúpus eritematoso sistêmico (LES), ácidos graxos poli-insaturados ômega-3, ácido eicosapentaenoico(EPA), ácido docosahexaenoico (DHA), antioxidantes e dieta. Foram incluídos artigos publicados até setembro de 2013. Quarenta e três artigos relacionados ao tema foram encontrados. Após limitar a busca apenas para estudos realizados em seres humanos foram encontrados 15 artigos, sendo três de revisão e 12 ensaios clínicos.


Various studies have demonstrated the impact of omega-3 fatty acids on the concentration of C reactive protein (CRP), pro-inflammatory eicosanoids, cytokines, chemokines and other inflammatory mediators. Therefore, the supplementation of these types of lipids may represent additional option treatment for chronic systemic diseases, such as Systemic Lupus Erythematous and other rheumatic diseases. The role of these lipids has not been well established, yet. However, it seems there is a direct relationship between its intake and the decrease of the disease clinical manifestations as well as of the inflammatory status of the patients. Thus, the aim of this manuscript is to present a thorough review on the effects of omega-3 fatty acids in patients with SLE. Bibliographic data set as the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) and Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS) were searched using as key words: systemic lupus erythematous (SLE), polyunsaturated fatty acids omega-3, eicosapentanoic acid (EPA), docosahexanoic acid (DHA), antioxidants and diet. Manuscripts published up to September 2013 were included. There were 43 articles related to the topic, however only 15 pertained human studies, with three review articles and 12 clinical studies.

ABSTRACT

Objetivo: comparar el contenido de ácidos grasospoliinsaturados (lcpufa) reportados en las etiquetasnutricionales de las fórmulas lácteas infantiles, comercializadasen supermercados de la ciudad de Medellín frente a la cantidaddeterminada experimentalmente. Metodología: se estudiarontrece fórmulas infantiles de iniciación, recolectadas del standdonde se encontraban exhibidas. El procedimiento para laextracción, cuantificación y análisis de los ácidos grasos delas muestras se realizaron según métodos desarrollados porel laboratorio. Resultados: al comparar el contenido de loslcpufa de la etiqueta de cada fórmula láctea con los datosobtenidos experimentalmente, se encontró que los productoscontenían menos del 30% de lo reportado, aspecto que no fueatribuible a la fecha de vencimiento pero sí posiblemente ala temperatura de almacenamiento. Discusión: los hallazgosdel estudio son preocupantes, porque los profesionales de lasalud, recomiendan dichos productos, por su similitud en lacomposición nutricional con la leche materna esperando quesu contenido en lcpufa sea como mínimo, igual o equivalenteal de ésta, proporcionando al bebé su adecuado desarrollo.Por lo anterior, es necesario que los expertos en alimentacióninfantil reglamenten de manera estricta la adición de estosácidos grasos en alimentos para lactantes...


Objective: to compare the content of polyunsaturated fattyacids (pufas) appearing in the nutrition facts labels of infantmilk formulas sold in supermarkets of Medellin city againstan experimentally determined quantity. Methodology: theresearchers studied a total of 13 infant initiation formulascollected from the stands where they were displayed at thesupermarkets. The procedure for extracting and quantifying thefatty acids in the samples was performed in compliance with themethods developed in the laboratory. Results: upon comparingthe content of the pufas displayed in the label of each milkformula with the data obtained experimentally, the researchersfound that the products contain less than 30% of the reportedvalues. This variation was not attributable to the expirationdate, but to the storage temperature. Discussion: the study'sfindings are worrisome given the fact that health professionalsrecommend such products because of the similarity of theirnutritional composition with that of breast milk. Moreover, theseprofessionals expect the pufas content to be at least equal to orequivalent to that of breast milk so in order to provide the babywith the necessary nutrients for an appropriate development.For this reason, it is necessary that infant feeding experts strictlyregulate the addition of these fatty acids to infant food...

ABSTRACT

ω-3 Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (ω-3 LCPUFA) of marine origin, such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) present in fatty fish or blue fish, have different beneficial effects on human health especially at the cardiovascular level. From the late observations in the 1960s, basic, clinic and epidemiological evidence have established significant cardio protective effects for these fatty acids in reducing the morbidity and mortality from the disease. The cardiovascular benefits of ω-3 LCPUFA of marine origin are targeted on various inflammatory and metabolic pathways which are regulated by these fatty acids, particularly in the vascular endothelium, the inflammatory response and cardiac cells activity. EPA and DHA are transformed into a variety of eicosanoids and docosanoids which have strong anti-inflammatory actions antagonizing the proinflammatory actions of ω-6 LCPUFA. The different molecular mechanisms by which these fatty acids exert cardio protective effects and the clinical and epidemiological evidence demonstrating the reduction in the morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular diseases are discussed.


Los ácidos grasos poliinsaturados de cadena larga ω-3 (AGPICL ω-3) de origen marino, principalmente el ácido eicosapentaenoico (EPA) y el ácido docosahexaenoico (DHA), presentes especialmente en pescados grasos o azules, producen diversos efectos saludables en la salud humana, especialmente a nivel cardiovascular. Desde la década de 1960 han surgido múltiples evidencias básico-clínicas y epidemiológicas que establecen que estos ácidos grasos ejercen un significativo efecto cardioprotector, produciendo una disminución de la morbilidad y de la mortalidad por enfermedad cardiovascular. El EPA y el DHA son transformados eicosanoides y docosanoides que tienen poderosos efectos antiinflamatorios y que antagonizan el efecto proinflamatorio de AGPICL ω-6. Los beneficios a nivel cardiovascular atribuidos a los AGPICL ω-3 de origen marino se centran, principalmente, en la regulación de vías metabólicas de la respuesta inflamatoria en el endotelio vascular y en la actividad de las células cardíacas. Esta revisión discute las diferentes evidencias metabólicas, clínicas y epidemiológicas que demuestran como el consumo de AGPICL ω-3 de origen marino puede reducir la morbilidad y mortalidad por enfermedad cardiovascular.

ABSTRACT

Objetivo. Evaluar el efecto de la oferta de kikuyo y el tercio de lactancia sobre el perfil de ácidos grasos en la grasa láctea de bovinos en pastoreo. Materiales y métodos. Se utilizaron 18 vacas de la raza Holstein con un peso promedio de 585 ±10 kg entre dos y cuatro partos, en primer y segundo tercio de lactancia. Las vacas se dividieron en tres grupos y fueron asignados al azar a uno de los tres tratamientos (ofertas de 2.6; 3.3 ó 4.0 kg MS/100 kg PV). Se determinó el perfil de ácidos grasos en la leche los días 14 y 21 del periodo experimental. Resultados. Los ácidos grasos C6:0, C16:0, C18:1c9 y C18:3 permanecieron constantes entre las diferentes ofertas de forraje y tercios de lactancia. En las mayores ofertas se presentó un aumento entre el día 14 y 21 de los ácidos C10:0 y C12:0 mientras que disminuyeron su concentración en estos mismos días los ácidos C18:1t11, C18:2c9c12, C18:2c9t11 y poliinsaturados. Se presentó una mayor concentración del ALC en animales de segundo tercio respecto a los de primero. Conclusiones. Debido a las variaciones entre los días de muestreo en el perfil de ácidos grasos de la grasa láctea fue imposible determinar si el aumento en la oferta mejora las concentraciones de ácidos grasos que han presentado efecto benéfico en la salud humana. La movilización de reservas de grasa podría explicar el comportamiento diferente de la concentración de ácidos grasos entre los días de recolección de muestras.


Objective. To evaluate the effect of kikuyu offer and stage of lactation on fatty acids profile on milk fat of grazing dairy bovines. Materials and methods. Eighteen Holstein cows with average weight of 585±10 Kg in two to four calvings on first and second lactation stages. Cows were divided in three groups and assigned randomly to one of three treatments (pasture allowances of 2.6, 3.3 or 4.0 KgDM/100 Kg LW). Milk fatty acid profiles were determined on days 14 and 21 of the experimental period. Results. Fatty acids C6:0, C16:0, C18:1cis9, C18:3 remained constant between different forage allowances and lactation stage were used. On the treatments of highest allowance, there was an increase between days 14 and 21 of C10:0 andC12:0 acids while C18:1t11,C18:2c9c12, C18:2c9,t11, and polyunsaturated fatty acids decreased their concentration. The lowest allowance had a different behavior. A higher concentration of ALC was observed in animals of second stage compared to first stage of lactation. Conclusions. It was not possible to conclude on the effects of forage allowance on the fatty acid profile of milk, due to variations between sampling dates. It is possible that mobilization of fat storage can explain the different behavior of fatty acid concentrations between sampling days.
