ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the prevalance and risk factors of post-stroke depression(PSD)in patients with the first ever stroke during first year after stroke. Methods A total of 60 eligible stroke patients were followed up for 12 months after the first ever stroke and Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression,Activity of Daily Living Scale,Neurological Functional Deficit Scores,Social Support Scale and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ)were used to investigate the incidence and risk factors of PSD in 2 weeks,3,4 and 12 months, respectively. Results The prevalence of PSD after the first ever streke was 18.18%(12/66),29.23%(19/65),38.09%(24/63),31.67%(19/60)in 2 weeks,3,4 and 12 months after the attack of stroke, respectively.Logistic regression analysis indicated that the major risk factors of PSD were female and introvert(b=-1.55,P=0.001;b=1.59,P=0.047)in 2 weeks, poor social support, low grade of neurological functional deficit score and female(b=-0.19,P=0.005;b=0.26,P=0.01;b=2.84,P=0.03)in 3 months.poor social support and low grade of neurological functional deficit score in 6 months and 12 months after stroke re-spectively(6 months:b=-0.24,P<0.001;b=0.35,P=0.004.12 months:b=-0.17,P=0.001;b=0.33,P=0.002).Conclusions The prevalence of PSD is considerable and the risk factors of PSD are different in different stage.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinical significances of thyroid function changes in patients with post-stroke depression(PSD). Methods Sixty two cases with acute cerebral infarction (CI) were stratified into two groups by Zung self-rating depression scale, single cerebral infarct patients group (CI group) and PSD group. Serum levels of FT3, FT4 and TSH of the patients were detected on 2 days,7days,14 days and 21days after admission. Results ①On each time point after admission, FT3 levels in PSD group were lower than those in CI group. FT3 levels in the two groups on the 7 days were higher than those on 2 days(2.04±0.53 vs 1.28±0.19, 1.43±0.91 vs 1.07±0.37, P <0.05).On the 14 and 21 days, levels of FT3 in the PSD group were continuously increased.②On the 2 days and 7 days after admission, FT4 levels in PSD group were higher than those in CI group. FT4 levels in the two groups on the 14 days were lower than those on 7 days(1.52±0.18 vs 2.09±0.26, 1.57±0.31 vs 2.28±0.38, P <0.05). ③On the 2 days after admission, the TSH level in the PSD group were lower than that in CI group(2.02±0.36 vs 2.27±0.49,P <0.05). Conclusion The results indicated that the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis plays important role in the pathogenesis of PSD.

ABSTRACT

@#ObjectiveTo study the effect of hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO) treatment on post-stoke depression (PSD) and neurological functional rehabilitation.Methods60 patients with PSD were randomly divided into two groups, treatment group and control group. Patients in the treatment group were given HBO treatment in addition to the regular treatment. Changes of scores of Hamilton depression (HAMD), Chinese stroke scale (CSS), and activity of daily living (ADL) before and after treatment in two groups were observed and evaluated.ResultsAfter 1 month treatment scores of HAMD, CSS, and ADL in the treatment group got obviously better results than before treatment (P<0.01). While scores in the control group had no significant difference(P>0.05).Conclusions It is suggested that HBO may improve the depressive symptom and neurological functional rehabilitation in PSD patients.
