ABSTRACT

Screener, a board game supplemented with online resources, was introduced and distributed by the Brazilian Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics to postgraduate programs as an instructional tool for the process of drug discovery and development (DDD). In this study, we provided a comprehensive analysis of five critical aspects for evaluating the quality of educational games, namely: 1) description of the intervention; 2) underlying pedagogical theory; 3) identification of local educational gaps; 4) impact on diverse stakeholders; and 5) elucidation of iterative quality enhancement processes. We also present qualitative and quantitative assessments of the effectiveness of this game in 11 postgraduate courses. We employed the MEEGA+ online survey, comprising thirty-three close-ended unipolar items with 5-point Likert-type response scales, to assess student perceptions of the quality and utility of Screener. Based on 115 responses, the results indicated a highly positive outlook among students. In addition, we performed a preliminary evaluation of learning outcomes in two courses involving 28 students. Pre- and post-quizzes were applied, each consisting of 20 True/False questions directly aligned with the game's content. The analysis revealed significant improvement in students' performance following engagement with the game, with scores rising from 8.4 to 13.3 (P<0.0001, paired t-test) and 9.7 to 12.7 (P<0.0001, paired t-test). These findings underscore the utility of Screener as an enjoyable and effective tool for facilitating a positive learning experience in the DDD process. Notably, the game can also reduce the educational disparities across different regions of our continental country.

Introducción: En 2018 la Organización Internacional de Normalización publicó la norma ISO 21001 para los sistemas de gestión de las organizaciones educativas. Su implementación en la formación académica de posgrado permitirá brindar un servicio educativo que cumpla de manera consistente con los requisitos legales, encaminado a elevar la satisfacción de todas las partes interesadas. Estos planteamientos se evidenciaron en dos organizaciones que brindan programas de maestría y de especialidad en el posgrado. Objetivo: Analizar los requisitos de la norma ISO 21001 para su uso en organizaciones que brindan servicios de formación de posgrado académico, fundamentalmente programas de maestría. Desarrollo: Con la implementación de la norma ISO 21001 se pretende ofrecer un mejor servicio educativo, a partir de evaluar el grado en el que se satisfacen los requisitos de los estudiantes, sus familias, los profesores, el mercado laboral y la sociedad en general. Para ello, el sistema de gestión de la organización educativa incluye a todos los procesos, las personas y las formas de actuación necesarias para lograr servicios y productos educativos de calidad. Para demostrar la aplicación de la norma al posgrado académico se emplearon como casos de estudio los programas de maestría del Centro de Biomateriales de la Universidad de La Habana y del Centro Nacional de Cirugía de Mínimo Acceso. Conclusiones: La norma ISO 21001, aplicada al posgrado académico, permite gestionar internamente la calidad de los servicios formativos para satisfacer las necesidades y expectativas de todas las partes interesadas y lograr categorías superiores de acreditación(AU)


Introduction: In 2018, the International Organization for Standardization published the Standard ISO 21001, Educational Organization Management System. Its implementation in postgraduate academic training will allow providing an educational service that consistently complies with the legal requirements, aimed at raising the satisfaction of all interested parties. These elements were evidenced in two organizations that provide master's and specialty programs in postgraduate education. Objective: To analyze the Standard ISO 21001's requirements for its usage in organizations that provide academic postgraduate training services, mainly master's programs. Development: With the implementation of the Standard ISO 21001, the aim is to offer better educational service, based on the evaluation of the degree to which the students', their families', professors', the labor market's, and the overall society's requirements are met. In view of this, the educational organization management system includes all the processes, people and forms of action necessary to achieve quality educational services and products. In order to show the Standard's application to the academic postgraduate course, we used, as study cases, the master's programs from the Center of Biomaterials at University of Havana and from the National Center of Minimum Access Surgery. Conclusions: The Standard ISO 21001, applied to the academic postgraduate course, allows managing internally the quality of training services, in view of fulfilling the needs and expectations of all interested parties and achieving higher accreditation categories(AU)

ABSTRACT

RESUMEN Introducción: No todos los especialistas en formación en Anestesiología y Reanimación revelan una actuación eficiente en la atención al paciente en shock. Objetivo: Exponer elementos relacionados con un sistema de talleres docentes para potenciar la preparación del especialista en formación en Anestesiología para la atención médica integral al paciente en shock. Material y método: Se realizó un estudio prospectivo con enfoque cualitativo que tiene en cuenta la sistematización de los referentes teóricos esenciales que posibilitan la satisfacción del objetivo declarado. Resultados: se definió operacionalmente la categoría preparación del especialista en formación en Anestesiología y Reanimación para la atención médica integral al paciente en shock, y se diseñó un sistema de talleres docentes que puede guiar el trabajo metodológico del colectivo de profesores para la consecución de este propósito. Discusión: Se propuso una modelación didáctica del proceso de preparación de este especialista en formación, que puede tributar a una transformación cualitativamente superior del proceso de formación, y a la profesionalización pedagógica del docente.


ABSTRACT Introduction: Not all the specialists in formation in Anesthesiology and Revival reveal an efficient performance in the attention to the patient in shock. Objective: To exhibit elements related to a system of teaching workshops to promote the preparation of the specialist in formation in Anesthesiology for the integral medical attention to the patient in shock. Material and method: A pilot study was carried out with qualitative approach that bears in mind the systematization of the essential theoretical basis that make possible the satisfaction of the declared objective. Results: it was defined operationally the category preparation of the specialist in formation in Anesthesiology and Revival for the integral medical attention to the patient in shock, and it was designed a system of teaching workshops that can guide the methodological work of the teachers' group for the attainment of this intention. Discussion: There was proposed a didactic modeling of the process of preparation of this specialist in formation, which it can contribute to a qualitatively top transformation of the process of formation, and to the pedagogic professionalization of the teacher.

Introducción: Un programa educativo será considerado de calidad si logra sus metas y los objetivos previstos; si incluye contenido valioso y útil, que responda a los requerimientos necesarios para formar de manera integral al estudiante. Objetivo: Caracterizar algunas variables de calidad del programa del curso de posgrado "Inglés Técnico para profesionales de Estomatología". Métodos: Estudio descriptivo de corte transversal en la Facultad de Estomatología de La Habana en el segundo semestre del curso académico 2016-2017. Se analizaron las variables siguientes: pertinencia e impacto social del programa, programa del curso, tradición de la institución sede donde se desarrolla el programa, perfil laboral y académico de los profesores que impartieron el curso y el respaldo material y administrativo del programa. Resultados: Las variables analizadas fueron evaluadas de bien, aunque existe dificultad con la producción científica-investigativa de los profesores de inglés que impartieron el curso. De los 45 profesionales que participaron en el curso 33 de ellos evaluaron las condiciones físicas de las aulas y el acceso a la tecnología entre los números 8 y 9 lo que representa un 73,3 por ciento y 12 entre 6 y 7 para un 26, por ciento. Conclusiones: Las variables investigadas demuestran la calidad del programa del curso de posgrado "Inglés Técnico para Profesionales de Estomatología". Sin embargo, se evidencia la necesidad de la climatización de las aulas y el mejoramiento del horario docente, asimismo se manifiesta la diferencia en el perfil académico laboral de los profesores que imparten el curso(AU)


Introduction: an educative program will be considered to have a good quality if it achieves the planned goals and objectives; if it has valuable and useful contents which respond to the necessary requirements to train the student comprehensively. Objective: to characterize some variables concerning the quality of the syllabus of the postgraduate course "Technical English for Dental Professionals" Methods: a cross sectional and descriptive study was conducted in the Dental Faculty of Havana in the second semester of the academic year 2016-2017. The following variables were analyzed: pertinence and social impact of the syllabus, syllabus of the course, academic tradition of the institution where the course was taught, work and academic background of the teachers that taught the course and the material and administrative backup for the syllabus. Results: the studied variables were evaluated as good, although there are difficulties with the scientific and research production of the English teachers that taught the course. Thirty-three of the forty-five of the participants of the course evaluated the physical conditions of the classrooms and the access to technology between 8 and 9 (73,3 percent) and 12 of them between 6 and 7 (26 percent). Conclusion: the variables studied show the quality of the syllabus of the postgraduate course "Technical English for Dental Professionals". Nevertheless, the need for air conditioning of the classrooms and the improvement of the timetable are evident. At the same time there are differences in the work and academic background of the teachers who taught the course(AU)

Resumen:


Objetivo: este artículo da a conocer el proyecto colaborativo entre la Escuela de Enfermería de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) y la Escuela de Enfermería de la Universidad Católica “Nuestra Señora de la Asunción” de Paraguay. El objetivo es el de mejorar la calidad del cuidado de la salud que se otorga a la población, a través del perfeccionamiento de enfermeras y enfermeros a nivel de postgrado. Metodología: se revisan los principales aspectos considerados en la creación y puesta en marcha del postgrado, y su estado actual a junio de 2014. La participación de la Escuela de Enfermería de la PUC en este proyecto responde al llamamiento de la Santa Sede “de fortalecer la red de universidades católicas” y es considerado un deber de contribuir con su experiencia y experticia al desarrollo de la enfermería de un país amigo. Resultados: como resultado de este proyecto se creó y puso en marcha, en el año 2007, un programa de magister en Enfermería desa­rrollado en la ciudad de Asunción, que en el año 2014 ha graduado a 29 profesionales y que están contribuyendo al desarrollo de la enfermería de Paraguay. Conclusión: el modelo diseñado para el desarrollo de este magister ha demostrado ser exitoso, como también el establecimiento de alianzas y colaboración entre las universidades, lo que aporta beneficios a las instituciones involucradas tanto en los ámbitos académicos y profesionales como personales.


Abstract:


Purpose: A collaborative project by Nursing School, Pontificia Universidad Católica, Chile (PUC) and Nursing School, Universidad Católica “Nuestra Señora de la Asunción”, Paraguay is described. The project is aimed at improving healthcare quality provided to the community by means of an improved postgraduate education for nurses.


Methods: The main aspects taken into account to create and develop postgraduate courses, along with their present condition in June 2014, are reviewed. The involvement of PUC's Nursing School in this project results from the Holy See's calling for "strengthening the Catholic Universities network"; and offering its experience and expertise to help nursing development in a friend country is considered to be a duty. Results: As a result from the project, in 2007 a Master Program in Nursing was created and implemented in Asunción city, with 29 professionals having achieved graduation in it until 2014; such professionals are currently contributing to nursing development in Paraguay. Conclusion: The model that was designed in order to develop this Master course has proved successful. Alliances and collaboration between universities have also been satisfactory, with benefits being obtained by involved institutions at academic, professional, and personal levels.


Introduçao: trabalho colaborador entre a Escola de Enfermagem da Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Chile (PUC) e a Escola de Enfermagem da Universidade Católica “Nossa Senhora da Assunção”, Paraguai. Objetivo: melhorar a qualidade do cuidado de saúde que se outorga a população, usando como estratégia o aperfeiçoamento de enfermeiras e enfermeiros em nível de pós-graduação. Resultado: como resultado deste projeto se criou e pôs em marcha, o ano de 2007, um Programa de Mestrado em Enfermagem desenvolvido na cidade de Assunção, que até 2014 havia graduado 29 profissionais que estão contribuindo ao desenvolvimento da Enfermagem de Paraguai.


Conclusão: o modelo desenhado deste Mestrado tem demonstrado ser exitoso, bem como também o estabelecimento de alianças e colaborações entre as universidades o que oferece contribuições benéficas ás instituições envolvidas tanto nos âmbitos acadêmicos, profissionais como pessoais.

El presente trabajo es resultado de una investigación de desarrollo pedagógico, que parte de la necesidad que tiene el profesional de enfermería de superarse en el perfil informático para insertarse activamente en los proyectos de informatización de la salud en Cuba, y de asimilar competentemente la informática como herramienta que propicia el desarrollo de la enfermería como ciencia. Toma como punto de partida el encargo profesional del personal enfermero con dominio en este perfil y los conocimientos generales que ha adquirido en cursos de formación informática en salud. Mediante la técnica de estudio documental y análisis de contenidos se logra establecer una relación dialéctica entre definición de los cursos, contenidos y desempeño en informática que deben alcanzarse. Queda diseñada una primera versión del sistema de cursos para su desarrollo como educación continuada en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de La Habana(AU)


The current work is the outcome from the pedagogic research developed, that started by the necessity to insert the nursing professional on the continued informatics education on Nursing informatics (NI) like strategic to improved his insertion in the health informatization projects that take place in Cuba since 90's decades, and the necessity of assimilate correctly the informatics like tool to improve and develop the nursing science. Like point to start, we consider the social responsibility from all nursing professional in to show abilities in this field, and the general knowledge that nurses did incorporate in others generals curses about health informatics. Supported on the documental analysis of content technique we solved to establish a dialectic relation between defined courses, it's content and specific nursing informatics abilities that must be incorporated. Finally, the first version of this postgraduate course was designer to degree nurses in this field from Medical University of Havana(AU)

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal en el Vicedecanato de Posgrado de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas No. 1 de Santiago de Cuba, durante el bienio 2007-2008, con el objetivo de analizar las características generales de la superación profesional, para lo cual se cuantificaron en cada período el número de actividades impartidas, según tipo, y el de profesionales capacitados. Entre los principales resultados se encontró un predominio de la ejecución de cursos en ambos años, particularmente con respecto a las actividades ofrecidas y los profesionales capacitados en el 2007. La categoría de instructor fue la de mayor cantidad de imparticiones y el número de profesionales matriculados o graduados de maestrías mostró un aumento considerable


A cross-sectional and descriptive study was carried out at the Posgraduate Vice-deanship of Medical College No 1 in Santiago de Cuba during the biennium 2007-2008, with the purpose of analyzing general characteristics of the professionals' training, thus quantifying in every period the number of activities by type and that of trained professionals. Among the main results, there was predominance of course implementation in both years, particularly with regard to the activities offered and the trained professionals in 2007. Most of courses were for the category of instructors and the number of registered professionals or master's graduates increased significantly

ABSTRACT

La certificación de las causas de muerte forma parte de los procedimientos médico-legales. Lograr una secuencia lógica de este proceso constituye un ejercicio legal, científico y administrativo de gran trascendencia. El presente estudio se realizó en el área de salud Boyeros en el mes de mayo de 2004. Se trató de una investigación transversal y experimental que tuvo como objetivo valorar la influencia de un programa de posgrado sobre la calidad de la confección del certificado de defunción en médicos de la atención primaria de la salud. La muestra quedó formada por 36 médicos, los que se dividieron en dos grupos, uno control y otro estudio o experimental con 18 médicos cada uno. A ambos se les aplicó una preprueba relacionada con las tres primeras causas de muerte en Cuba, donde se debía establecer la secuencia lógica. Al grupo estudio se le aplicó una posprueba luego de haber concluido el curso con cuadros clínicos similares y con igual nivel de complejidad. Se manifestó a través de medidas de tendencia central que ambos grupos tenían dificultades al aplicárseles la preprueba con similares porcentajes. En el grupo estudio se obtuvo un 72,2 por ciento de respuestas correctas en la posprueba, equivalente a una proporción de 6:1 con una ganancia de respuestas correctas de 22. Se demostró que el curso de superación y capacitación impartido elevó la calidad en lo referente a la certificación de las causas de muerte y procedimientos médico-legales


The certification of death causes is a part of the medicolegal procedures. To achieve a logical sequence of this process is a legal, scientific, and managerial exercise of transcendental importance. This study was undertaken in a health area of Boyeros municipality, in May 2004. It was a cross-sectional and experimental research aimed at evaluating the influence of a postgraduate program on the quality of the death certificate making among physicians at the primary health care level. The sample included 36 physicians, which were divided into two groups, a control group and a study or experimental group, with 18 physicians each. In both, a pretest was applied related to the three first causes of death in Cuba, where a logical sequence should be established. In the study group, a posttest was applied after the culmination of the course with similar clinical pictures, and the same level of complexity. Through measurements of central trend, it was demonstrated that both groups had difficulties with the pretest, and that percentages were similar. In the study group, 72.2 % of the answers were correct in the posttest, equivalent to a 6:1 ratio with a gain of right answers of 22. It was demonstrated that the upgrading and training course conducted increased the quality of the certification of the death causes and of the medicolegal procedures.

1) Clinical residency system (5 years) to study medical knowledge and technologies necessary in each field of specialty was established for young doctors who have finished their 2-year post-graduate clinical internship.<BR>2) Post-graduate course of Tokyo Women's Medical University consist of the following divisions: internal medicine and surgery divisions as clinical medicine, morphological, functional and socio-medical divisions as basic medicine and the advanced life-science divisions.<BR>3) Clinical residents can enter the post-graduate course of the university at the same period of their residency and engage in medical research works.<BR>4) Post-graduate courses of Tokyo Women's Medical University are open to peoples working in industrial companies or any enterprises and promote the joint research works with the university and industrial enterprises.<BR>5) The research works by clinical residents in the post-graduate school will encourage the research mind of young doctors and promote the progress of medical researches.
