ABSTRACT

Da Jianzhongtang, which is from Synopsis of Golden Chamber(《金匮要略》), is one of the hundred ancient classical formulas. In this textual research, a total of 46 records on this prescription from 42 ancient books and 207 records from modern literature were screened out. Through systematic research on its name, dosage, processing, evolution of the meaning on prescription compatibility, indications, decocting methods, usage, and precautions, this paper aims to lay a literature basis for further research on Da Jianzhongtang. The results show that the converted dosages for the components are 3 g of Zanthoxyli Pericarpium, 12 g of Zingiberis Rhizoma, 6 g of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, and 30 g of Saccharum Granorum. The efficacy can be labeled on the prescription instruction as warming the middle and tonifying deficiency, descending adverse Qi and relieving pain. According to modern literature, the main indications include diseases in digestive system, circulatory system, orthopedic system, urinary system, and ophthalmic system, particularly the intestinal obstruction, gastric ulcer, chronic gastritis, and duodenal ulcer in the digestive system. The core pathogenesis of the above diseases is "deficiency-cold of middle energizer and internal exuberant cold". Precautions are as follows. ① For the processing of Zanthoxyli Pericarpium, stir-frying can alleviate its toxicity and increase the decoction rate of effective ingredients. ② For the dosage, overdosage will lead to dry cough, edema, etc. ③ As to the contraindications after the medication, raw, cold, or indigestible food should not be taken after medication. ④ For the syndrome taboos, this prescription should be used with caution for patents with Yin deficiency, congealing cold, and Qi stagnation, and be forbidden for patients with spleen and stomach dampness-heat. The above results lay a basis for the research and development of the compound preparation for Da Janzhongtang and provide a reference for its instructions.

ABSTRACT

With Chinese medicine (CM) gaining popularity in recent years, researchers and clinicians have put in much interest and effort into the makings and effects of it, especially after the recent announcement of World Health Orgnitation's incorporation of CM into mainstream medical compendium. Individual herb has complex properties, coming from its pharmacological properties and the Chinese medical principles of organ-directed, taste and dynamic orientational behaviours. The use of individual herb in CM is rare, where various herbs/ingredients are mostly found in a prescribed formula. To fully reveal the effects of CM is a great challenge. The complexity of various herbs in combined effect, the absorption and utility rate by the body, uniqueness of individual physique, sub-types of pathological behaviors and time-line progression of the healing process add on to the complication of understanding the full effect of CM. Various theories such as pathophysiology guidance, pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic compatibility method, and Global Systems Biology for Integrative Genomics, Proteomics and Metabolomics, which interactively provide a wider scope, more details, with the consideration of development timeline, may shed more light to revealing the full picture of the effects of compatibility prescription.

ABSTRACT

Objective] Explain the intentions of those famous TCM combinations for disease according to Shennong Bencao Jing. [Methods] Find out the principles to make up those famous TCM prescriptions based on understanding the efficacy of medicine described in Shennong Bencao Jing, through combining comparing the original documents of each other with the clinical practice of Mr. Xu Xiaodong. The natural medicine such as Gan Dihuang, Baizhu and Chai Hu were used as mediums to relate those famous TCM prescriptions and Shennong Bencao Jing. [Results] The original documents of Shennong Bencao Jing and those famous TCM prescriptions which were related together by natural medicine such as Gan Dihuang, Baizhu and Chai Hu have much in common. For example, Gan Dihuang used in Si Wutang, Huang Tutang etc. according to the effect of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis described in Shennong Bencao Jing. Chang Pu used in Changpu Yujintang according to the effect of resuscitation and restoring consciousness described in Shennong Bencao Jing. Baizhu used in Fangji Huangqi Tang, Mahuang Jiazhu Tang of Jinkui Yaolue according to the antiperspirant effect described in Shennong Bencao Jing. Chai Hu used in Xiao Chaihu Tang, Chaihu Shugan San etc. according to the effect of relieving the abdominal discomfort, attacks of chills and fever described in Shennong Bencao Jing. The theory of Shennong Bencao Jing is well applied in clinical teaching and practice by Mr. Xu Xiaodong, bringing students a lot of inspiration. It is possible to explain the principles of making up those famous TCM prescriptions and guide the compatibility of TCM according to Shennong Bencao Jing. [Conclusion] Doctors in the ancient world have inherited and developed the Shennong Bencao Jing theory when filling the prescription; comprehension and application of those famous TCM prescriptions will be more original according to Shennong Bencao Jing. The theory of Shennong Bencao Jing is worth our further study and extension.

ABSTRACT

Rough set theory is a powerful tool to deal with incomplete information system, which can be applied to prescription data analysis. In this paper, we suggested an improved rough set model called WVP-T model. The model combined the variable precision model with the tolerance relation model. It can overcome the shortcoming of classical model. Furthermore, attribute importance and entropy of information were combined as heuristic information. Medicine was mapped to rough set attribute in order to value its importance. Then, combined with curative effect, attribute reduction was used to investigate the relationship between prescription and medicine and the relationship between symptom and syndrome. The experimental results showed that algorithm proposed in this paper can be used in prescription data analysis and can accurately reveal the compatibility rules to guide the clinical medication.

ABSTRACT

In China, the treatment of AIDS With Chinese herbal medicine compound has been widely studied and practiced. Clinical Studies showed that the treatment of AIDS with Chinese medicine can significantly relieve AIDS patients' clinical symptoms, improve life quality with rising immunity and alleviate toxic and side effects in antiviral drug. This study took 28 Clinical Studies on the treatment of AIDS with Chinese herbal medicine compound published in Chinese periodicals as the research object, and designed Tree Analysis Algorithm was used to analyze prescription compatibility in the treatment of AIDS with Chinese herbal medicine compound. Results of data analysis revealed that clinical therapy on AIDS could be classified into three types: predominent de-toxication, predominent supplementing Qi, and simultaneous de-toxication and supplementing Qi due to different understanding the pathogenesis of excessive evil and deficient essence-qi. But in practical medication, there has not formed a reasonable and effective combination or basic prescription up to now, except that Astragalus was wildly used.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate and evaluate the effect of components in Biqi Capsulae prescription compatibility on activities of cytochrome P450 (CYP450) in vivo. Methods: A new "Cocktail" one point method has been established, including five probes of Phenacetin, Tolbutamide, mephenytoin, Dextromethorphan, and midazolam. An LC-MS/MS analytical method has been established to determine the above five probes and their corresponding metabolites to analyze and evaluate the potential in vivo induction and (or) inhibition of components from Biqi Capsulae on the above five CYP450 in rats. Results: Biqi Capsulae prescription has compatibility based on CYP450. Compared with blank group, groups of "principal + assistant", "principal + mediator", "principal + assistant + complement", "principal + assistant + mediator", "principal + complement + mediator", and whole Biqi Capsulae could significantly induce the activity of CYP1A2. Moreover, groups of "principal + assistant", "principal + assistant + complement", "principal + assistant + mediator", and whole Biqi Capsulae could significantly induce the activity of CYP2C9. Conclusion: Biqi Capsulae prescription has significant compatibility based on CYP450. These results provide the important information and establish good foundation for further investigation on scientificalness and safety of Biqi Capsulae prescription compatibility.

ABSTRACT

The formula-factors concept was put forwarded in this article on account of the syndrome-factors theory. While the prescription compatibility principles "correspondence between syndrome and formula factors" was deduced form the differentiation of syndrome and treatment principles "correspondence between syndrome and formula". Founding on these concepts, the relation between "correspondence between syndrome and formula factors" and "principal, adjuvant, auxiliary and conductant ingredirnts" was approached on the prescription compatibility. And the result was that both compatibility principles above were interweaving associated for their supplementing each other. This conclusion was significative to the prescription compatibility theory as well as TCM clinical practice.
