ABSTRACT

This article aims to reflect on the issue of aging. In the last decades, several concepts and frameworks have been proposed. This article discusses some of them — successful aging, productive aging and active aging — emphasizing their potential and limits. After the discussion of each model, we conclude that there is no magic formula for aging to take place in a truly good and healthy manner. To promote people’s quality of life and increase well-being in the last stages of life, we need a strong commitment to building a more inclusive and humanistic society. With this reflection, we intend to contribute to the development of more inclusive and humanistic professional practices in the field of aging.
