ABSTRACT

Background: The present study was conducted to know the distribution of various health problems among doctors and to assess professional and financial satisfaction levels among doctors. Methods: A Google Form questionnaire-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 122 doctors in Vadodara selected purposively after taking consent. Google form was circulated by email and WhatsApp groups. The form consisted of questions related to demographic details, health problems, financial and job satisfaction. All the responses were recorded and analyzed in MS Excel 2019. Results: Among the 122 doctors, 89 (72.95%) were male and 33 (27.04%) were female and 101 (82.78%) doctors were taking treatment for some ailment. Around 86.9% of doctors regularly opt for a health check-up. Among the health problems reported by doctors, the most common were musculoskeletal ailments (72.13%) followed by hypertension (28.9%), diabetes (17.2), cardiac (12.3%), endocrinal (10.65%), eye (9.01), mental (6.55) problems. Approximately 37.70% of doctors answered that health problems temporarily affect their work; 5.73% of doctors felt the need to modify their work pattern. About 91.80% of doctors were satisfied by their profession, while 108 (88.52%) doctors were financially satisfied with their work. Conclusion: More than half of the professionals complained of musculoskeletal problems. The majority of health care professionals were professionally and financially satisfied.

Resumo O objetivo do artigo é apresentar o processo de construção e validação da Escala de Bem-Estar Docente (Ebed). Trata-se de um instrumento desenvolvido para identificar os fatores que contribuem para o bem-estar dos professores com o seu trabalho. Composta de 37 variáveis da dimensão objetiva do trabalho (socioeconômicas, relacionais, da atividade laboral e infraestruturais), foi aplicada em 353 professores da Educação Básica, que avaliaram esses itens quanto ao grau de satisfação/insatisfação que proporcionam. As análises, realizadas com a Correlação de Pearson e Análise de Componentes Principais (PCA), apontam que todas as variáveis têm correlação positiva e significativa com a variável "Feliz" (autopercepção de felicidade do professor com o trabalho), contribuindo e podendo ser validadas para medir o bem-estar docente.


Résumé L'Escala de Bem-Estar Docente [Échelle du bien-être des enseignants] (Ebed) est un instrument développé pour identifier les facteurs contribuant au bien-être des professeurs dans leur travail. Composée de 37 variables de la dimension objective du travail (socio-économiques, relationnelles, d'activité professionnelle et d'infrastructure), cette échelle a été appliquée à 353 enseignants de l'éducation de base, qui en ont évalué les éléments en fonction du degré de satisfaction ou d'insatisfaction qu'ils leur procurent. En utilisant l' l'analyse des corrélations de Pearson et l'analyse en composantes principales (APC), il a été montré que toutes les variables ont une corrélation positive et significative avec la variable "Heureux" (auto-perception du bonheur de l'enseignant quant à son travail) et qu'elles peuvent donc contribuer à et être validées pour mesurer le bien-être des enseignants.

Los análisis, realizados con la Correlación de Pearson y el Análisis de Componentes Principales (PCA, sigla en inglés para Principal Component Analysis), señalan que todas las variables tienen correlación positiva y significativa con la variable "Feliz" (autopercepción de felicidad del profesor con el trabajo), contribuyendo y pudiendo ser validadas para medir el bienestar docente.


Abstract The objective of the article is to present the process of construction and validation of the Teacher Well-being Scale (Ebed). It is an instrument developed to identify the factors that contribute to teachers' well-being with their work. Composed of 37 variables of the objective dimension of the work (socioeconomic, relational, labor activity and infrastructure), was applied in 353 Basic Education teachers who evaluated these items as to the degree of satisfaction/dissatisfaction they provide. The analyzes, performed with Pearson's Correlation and Principal Component Analysis (PCA), show that all variables have a positive and significant correlation with the "Happy" variable (self-perception of teacher happiness with work), contributing and can be validated to measure teacher well-being.

RESUMEN Fundamento: La calidad de la atención estomatológica está caracterizada en el proceso y factores que intervienen en la prestación de los servicios, dirigidos a alcanzar buenos resultados en lo que a salud bucal se refiere. Objetivo: Evaluar la calidad de la atención estomatológica de dos servicios de Estomatología General Integral de la provincia Sancti Spíritus. Metodología: Se Realizó una investigación en sistema y servicio de salud en la provincia Sancti Spíritus de enero a noviembre del 2016. De las 21 unidades asistenciales que prestan el servicio de Estomatología General Integral, se eligieron dos, una de la zona urbana y otra de la zona rural. El muestreo aleatorio simple fue el proceder que se empleó para efectuar esta elección en cada zona. El Policlínico Tipo II del municipio Cabaiguán fue la unidad seleccionada en la zona urbana y la Clínica Estomatológica Banao del municipio Sancti Spíritus en la zona rural. La muestra fueron 388 pacientes y 24 estomatólogos. Las variables: calidad del servicio, estructura, proceso y resultado, se utilizaron métodos del nivel teórico, empírico (encuesta) y de la estadística descriptiva. Resultados: En el servicio rural los pacientes estuvieron satisfechos en un 57.8 % y en el urbano en un 51.9 %; los profesionales se mostraron medianamente satisfechos en ambos servicios con 50.0 % y 71.4 % respectivamente. Conclusiones: La calidad de la atención estomatológica en la zona urbana fue evaluada de bien y en la rural de regular. Algunos indicadores de las variables estructura y resultado se identificaron con dificultad.


ABSTRACT Background: The quality of dental care is characterized in the process and factors that interfere in the provision of services, aimed at achieving good results in terms of oral health. Objective: To evaluate the quality of dental care of two General Comprehensive Stomatology services in Sancti Spíritus province. Methodology: An investigation was carried out on the system and health service in Sancti Spíritus province from January to November 2016. From 21 health care units that provide General Comprehensive Stomatology service, two were chosen, one from the urban area and the other from the rural one. The procedure used to make this choice in each zone was the Simple random sample. The Type II Polyclinic in Cabaiguán was the selected unit from the urban area and the Dental Clinic Banao in Sancti Spíritus, from the rural one. The sample consisted of 388 patients and 24 dentists. The variables: quality of service, structure, process and result, methods of theoretical, empirical (survey) and descriptive statistics were used. Results: From the rural service the patient's satisfaction represents 57.8 % and from the urban one 51.9 %; the professional's satisfaction was moderately in both services which represent 50.0 % and 71.4 % respectively. Conclusions: The quality of dental care from the urban area was evaluated as good and from the rural area as regular. Some indicators of the structure and outcome variables were identified with difficulty.

ABSTRACT

El propósito de este estudio fue conocer la visión del usuario de las clínicas multidisciplinarias de la Facultad de Odontología, UNAN-León, acerca de calidad de atención, su perspectiva sobre aspectos organizacionales y de estructura, con la intención de la búsqueda de la satisfacción y seguir liderando en la Odontología en Nicaragua. El estudio realizado fue transversal cualicuantitativo, en el periodo marzo-agosto del año 2016. Los sujetos de estudio se eligieron con base en los criterios: participación voluntaria, facilidad de comunicación verbal, haber sido atendido durante el periodo del estudio y que hayan cumplido con su programa de citas. Participaron 43 individuos:12 en grupos focales y 31 con entrevistas estructuradas. Se entrevistó a 2 docentes para triangular la información cualitativa. Los datos cualitativos fueron procesados en el programa estadístico Nvivo versión 11 y, los cuantitativos, en el SPSS versión 21. Es interesante advertir que el grupo estudiado se mostró muy satisfecho con la atención prestada, a pesar de las limitaciones de estructura y organización en las clínicas; su percepción se fundamentó en la calidad de atención, en la ética profesional del estudiante y en la resolución del problema dental que lo aquejaba.


The purpose of this study was to let us know the user´s vision of the Multidisciplinary Clinics of the Faculty of Dentistry, UNAN-León about the quality of care, its perspective on organizational and structure aspects, withthe intention of finding satisfaction and continue leading in dentistry in Nicaragua. The study was transversal Quali-Quantitative, in the period of March-August of the year 2016. The study subjects were chosen based on the criteria: voluntary participation, ease of verbal communication, having been attended during the study period and had fulfilled its appointment program. 43 individuals participated: 12 in focus groups and 31 with structured interviews. Two professor were interviewed to triangulate qualitative information. The qualitative data were processed in he statistical program Nvivo version 11 and quantitative in the SPSS version 21. It is interesting underline that the group studied was very satisfied with the attention given despite the limitations of structure and organization in the clinics; based on its perception of quality of care, in the professional ethics of the student and in the resolution of the dental problem the afflicted it.

ABSTRACT

Objetivo: Avaliar o impacto da carga de trabalho e de estresse sobre a satisfação profissional em profissionais do serviço de saúde mental. Método: Estudo transversal com amostra de 23 profissionais de saúde mental. Foram aplicados os instrumentos: Escala de Avaliação do Impacto do Trabalho em Serviços de Saúde Mental (Impacto Br), Escala de Avaliação da Satisfação da Equipe em Serviços de Saúde Mental (Satis Br) e um questionário sociodemográfico. A pesquisa foi realizada em 2013. Resultados: 60,86% dos participantes eram do sexo feminino, com idade média de 36,48 anos. O escore de satisfação global foi de 3,16 (médio), e o escore de sobrecarga dos profissionais, de 2,33 (médio). O grupo com estresse apresentou menor grau de satisfação com o serviço do que o grupo sem estresse. Conclusão: Os dados obtidos com esta pesquisa demonstram que os profissionais que atuam na área da saúde mental sentem se de médio a pouco satisfeitos em relação à qualidade dos serviços oferecidos e ao trabalho realizado em equipe. Os instrumentos se apresentaram adequados para avaliação dos processos de trabalho, fazendo com que haja confiabilidade nos dados e comparabilidade entre diferentes achados, o que possibilita, fundamentalmente, intervir nos processos de trabalho, tornando o, como se deseja, o melhor possível.


Objective: To evaluate the impact of workload and stress over professional satisfaction, among mental health professionals. Method: 23 mental health professionals were enrolled in a cross sectional study. The following instruments have been used: Impacto Br; Satis Br; and a socio demographic questionnaire. The survey was conducted in 2013. Results: 60.86% of the participants were female; the mean age was 36.48 years. The global satisfaction score with the workload was considered medium (3.16) and the global work impact score was medium (2.33). The group with stress showed a lower degree of satisfaction with the service than the group without stress. It was evidenced higher scores overhead in service in the group of professionals who had indicative of stress. Conclusion: The study showed that professionals who work in the mental health area have been medium to low professionally satisfied with the quality of services offered to the patient and teamwork. The instruments showed adequate for evaluation of work processes, so that there is data reliability and comparability between different findings, which enables fundamentally intervene in the work, making it as one wishes, the best possible.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the career satisfaction of medical school professors in relation to initial motivation, satisfaction factors, and the desire to remain in the profession. METHODOLOGY: A qualitative methodology was used, based on questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with faculty members at a federal institution of higher education in Brazil. RESULTS: For 42.86 percent of the sample, teaching began while they were medical students; 80 percent had chosen teaching either as a vocation or due to influence from families or professors; 20 percent chose teaching as a professional opportunity. The majority, 57.14 percent, stated they were happy with teaching, and 51.42 percent did not plan to leave the career. Factors involved in satisfaction with teaching were: the possibility of remaining up-to-date in the medical profession, the feeling of doing their duty, their contribution to training future doctors, and contact with young people and the university setting. Factors leading to dissatisfaction were pedagogical (33.33 percent), economic (30.95 percent), institutional (14.28 percent), and relational (14.28 percent). CONCLUSIONS: Subjects expressed a positive attitude towards teaching, and because of their great personal satisfaction with the career, they did not plan to leave it. These findings should shed light on factors that interfere with career satisfaction and help increase those that promote satisfaction, thus improving the productivity and well-being of medical professors.


OBJETIVO: Investigar a satisfação com a carreira docente de professores de medicina em relação à: motivação inicial, fatores de satisfação e desejo de permanência da profissão. METODOLOGIA: Utilizou-se metodologia qualitativa; foram aplicados questionários e entrevista semi-estruturada aos professores de uma instituição federal de ensino superior. RESULTADOS: 42,86 por cento iniciou-se na docência como estudantes de medicina; 80 por cento escolheram a docência por vocação, influência familiar e influência de professores e 20 por cento por oportunidade; 57,14 por cento consideram-se satisfeitos com a docência e 51,42 por cento não pretendem se aposentar. Foram considerados como fatores de satisfação: possibilidade de atualização profissional, sensação de dever cumprido, contribuição com formação médica, contacto com jovens e com ambiente universitário. Os fatores de insatisfação citados foram os pedagógicos (33,33 por cento), econômicos (30,95 por cento), institucionais (14,28 por cento) e relacionais (14,28 por cento). CONCLUSÕES: Os pesquisados manifestaram atitude positiva frente à carreira docente e não possuem desejo de abandonar a carreira, pela grande satisfação pessoal. Esses achados podem contribuir com a reflexão sobre fatores que interferem na (in)satisfação da carreira docente e contribuir para que fatores de satisfação sejam aumentados, melhorando a produtividade e o bem estar de professores de medicina.

ABSTRACT

La introducción de tecnologías de información y comunicación (TIC) en las organizaciones producen y siguen produciendo cambios sustanciales en el modus operandi y, al mismo tiempo, en la salud física y psicológica de los trabajadores que los utilizan. Este fenómeno influencia el funcionamiento de las organizaciones en términos de habilidades, competencias y capacidades de las personas que utilizan estas herramientas. En este sentido, el usuario puede estar expuesto a una serie de lesiones, tales como ansiedad, estrés, depresión y otros riesgos psicosociales y físicos. El concepto que define este tipo de enfermedades se llama tecnoestrés. Este estudio se inscribe dentro de este concepto y la investigación se centró en un grupo de usuarios intensivos de una empresa de informática que crea software para el área de seguridad y defensa en Portugal. La investigación pretende enfrentar las consecuencias psicosociales que las TIC producen en estas personas y, a su vez, determinar la influencia de las variables sociodemográficas (sexo, edad, estado civil, composición del hogar, tareas domésticas, experiencia con las computadoras) sobre los niveles de tecnoestrés demostrado. El objetivo es también determinar la relación entre el nivel de satisfacción laboral y tecnoestrés, y los factores que influyen en esta relación.


The introduction of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the organizations produced and still produces substantial changes in these structures at the modus operandi level and also with respect to the physical and psychological health of the workers using them. This phenomenon conditions the organizations' operational skills, because it depends on the abilities, skills and capacities of the individuals who use these tools. Due to this relationship, the user might be at risk of a number of damages, such as anxiety, stress, depression and other psychosocial and physical disorders. Techno-stress is the concept that defines such illnesses. This study fits the concept. The research focused on a group of intensive users of a computer software manufacturing company in the area of security and defence, located in Portugal. It intends to acknowledge the psychosocial impact that ICT produce in these individuals. It also aims to verify to what extent the socio-demographic variables (gender, age, marital status, household composition, chores, and experience with computers) influence the levels of the existing techno-stress. The relationship between the level of techno-stress and professional satisfaction, as well as the factors which influence this relationship are also subject of this research.


A introdução das tecnologias da informação e comunicação (TIC) nas organizações produziu e continua a produzir alterações substanciais nessas estruturas no modus operandi e, ao mesmo tempo, na saúde física e psicológica dos trabalhadores que as utilizam. Este fenómeno condiciona a operacionalidade das organizações em função das habilidades, competências e capacidades dos indivíduos que utilizam essas ferramentas. Desta relação, o usuário pode ficar exposto a uma série de danos, como ansiedade, stress, depressão e outros transtornos psicossociais e físicos. O conceito que define tais enfermidades designa-se por tecnostress. Este estudo enquadra-se neste conceito. Modifiqué la construcción de la frase A investigação incidiu num grupo de usuários intensivos do computador de uma empresa de criação de software para a área da segurança e defesa em Portugal. Pretende-se conhecer o impacto psicossocial que as TIC produzem nestes indivíduos e verificar em que medida as variáveis sociodemográficas, sexo, idade, estado civil, composição do agregado familiar, tarefas domésticas, experiência com computadores, influem nos níveis de tecnostress demonstrados. Pretende-se ainda averiguar a relação entre o nível de tecnostress e a satisfação laboral e os factores que influenciam essa relação.

ABSTRACT

OBJETIVO: Avaliar o impacto da carga de trabalho sobre a satisfação profissional, a qualidade de vida e a prevalência de transtornos psiquiátricos menores em profissionais de saúde mental. MÉTODO: Estudo transversal com amostra de 203 profissionais de saúde mental. Foram aplicados os instrumentos: IMPACTO-BR, SATIS-BR, SRQ-20 e um questionário sociodemográfico ocupacional. RESULTADOS: 75,4 por cento dos participantes eram do sexo feminino, com idade média de 33,7 anos (DP = 9); 15,8 por cento dos participantes apresentaram transtornos psiquiátricos menores. Em relação ao trabalho, obteve-se nível de satisfação global mediano (escore 3,59; DP = 0,485). O impacto global foi avaliado como pequeno (escore 1,85; DP = 0,536). Sobre a qualidade de vida, houve prejuízo nos subitens dor, estado geral de saúde e vitalidade. CONCLUSÃO: Os dados obtidos com esta pesquisa demonstram que os profissionais que atuam na área da saúde mental sentem-se mais satisfeitos em relação à qualidade dos serviços oferecidos e ao trabalho realizado em equipe. O fator que gerou menor satisfação está relacionado às condições de trabalho oferecidas. Foram observados escores mais elevados na subescala referente ao impacto emocional, assim como maior presença de transtornos psiquiátricos menores nos profissionais de terapia ocupacional e serviço social. Profissionais que trabalham mais de 20 horas semanais apresentam prejuízos na qualidade de vida.

METHOD: 203 mental health professionals were enrolled in a cross-sectional study. The following instruments have been used: IMPACTO-BR; SATIS-BR; SRQ-20; SF-36; and a socio-demographic occupational questionnaire. RESULTS: 75.4 percent of the participants were female; the mean age was 33.7 years (SD = 9); 15.8 percent had minor psychiatric disorders. The global satisfaction score with the workload was considered medium (3.59; SD = 0.485) and the global work impact score was small (1.85; SD = 0.536). It was observed low score on quality of life in the subitens: pain, general health state and vitality. CONCLUSION: The study showed that professionals who work in the mental health area have been professionally satisfied with the quality of services offered to the patient and teamwork. The lowest satisfaction score was related to bad working conditions. The highest satisfaction scores were related to the emotional burden, and higher prevalence of minor psychiatric disorders of occupational therapists and social service professionals. Health professionals who worked more than 20 weekly hours showed worse quality of life.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Physicians' satisfaction with their professional life influences the quality of patient care they provide and helps to determine the number and type of students attracted to the various fields of medicine. In South Korea, two decades have passed already since the introduction of family medicine. But, S. Korean health policy has not developed a strong plan to control a high medical cost and ineffective utilization of medical resourees. Additionaly, the number of students applying for family medicine is less than that for internal medicine or pediatrics. The purpose of this study was to delineate factors relating to professional satisfaction among family physicians in South Korea. METHODS: The subjects were 840 family physicians who had been trained formally and registered to the Korean Academy of Family Physicians. The self-administered questionnaires were collected by three mailings during March 18 to May 24 in 1998. RESULTS: Completed questionnaires were received from 404 South Korean family physicians. With respect to income, there showed 'satisfaction' in 31.4%, 'middle' 47%, and 'dissatisfaction' 20.5% (no response 1.0%). Three periods of certification acquisition(P=0.001), four practice types(P=0.005), and three degrees of training satisfaction(P=0.003) had significantly different degrees of satisfaction. In the aspect of pride as a family physician, there showed 'high' in 42.1%, 'middle' 45.8%, and 'low' 10.9%(no response 1.2%). In the aspect of future view as a family physician, there showed 'bright' in 40.6%, 'middle' 40.6%, and 'dark' 17.6% (no response 1.2%). After confounding variables were controlled, practice types (faculty family physicians rather than private practitioners) (P=0.030), the degree of training satisfaction(P=0.0001, positive relationship), and the number of patients encountered per an hour(P=0.0098, positive relationship) were significant variables of the degree of general professional satisfaction. CONCLUSION: Though standard measure of professional satisfaction have not been developed, this survey result seems to help understand factors relating to professional satisfaction of S. Korean family physicians. This information may be useful in the development of policy to structure a primary care oriented health care system in S. Korea.
