ABSTRACT

Trata-se de estudo quantitativo descritivo para caracterizar as internações de crianças com câncer, entre 2005 e 2009, em Londrina-PR. Do total, 52,2% eram do sexo masculino e 43% tinham entre 1 a 4 anos. Os tipos de câncer mais encontrados foram as leucemias, sendo hematologia a clínica médica mais frequente (35,8%) e quimioterapia o tratamento mais utilizado (34,2%). Quanto à mortalidade, houve predomínio das leucemias (36,0%) no sexo feminino (56,0%) na idade de 1 a 4 anos (56,0%). Os resultados do presente estudo permitiram caracterizar a população pediátrica com câncer. Estes dados podem contribuir para a tomada de decisões dos gestores de saúde no enfrentamento e planejamento da assistência a esse grupo populacional, bem como fornecer subsídios para a formulação de hipóteses em estudos epidemiológicos a serem investigadas futuramente e favorecer a excelência multiprofissional.


The present quantitative and descriptive study aimed at characterizing the hospitalization of children with cancer, from 2005 to 2009, in Londrina, Parana. 52.2% of the patients were male and 43% had between one and four years of age. The most frequent type of cancer was leukemia and hematology the mostfrequent medical clinic (35.8%). In regards to mortality, leukemia was predominant (36.0%) among femalepatients (56.0%) and patients between one and four years of age (56.0%). The results of this study allowed characterizing the pediatric population with cancer. These data can contribute to the decision making of healthcare managers in coping and planning of care for this population group, as well as provide input to the formulation of hypotheses to be investigated in future epidemiological and foster multidisciplinary research excellence.
