ABSTRACT

AIM:To evaluate the curative effect of Chinese medicine physiotherapy combined with tropicamide eye drops to treat pseudomyopia in children and adolescent. METHODS: We collected randomized controlled trials from CNKI, CBM, Wanfang database, PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Library in 2000-2015, and the improved Jadad scale was used to evaluate the methodology of the literature, and the data was extracted. The Review Manager 5. 3 statistical software was used for meta analysis. RESULTS: A total of 5 articles were included in the analysis, with a total sample size of 836 cases. The curative effect of experimental group on pseudomyopia was better than that of control group, and the differences are statistically significant (Z=6.39,P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Compared with topiramine eye drops alone, combined with traditional Chinese medicine therapy for treating pseudomyopia in children and adolescent is more effective, and is safe and reliable.

ABSTRACT

@#AIM:To investigate the effect and local influence of atropine and anisodamine eye drops on adolescent pseudomyopia. <p>METHODS:Totally 110 cases of juvenile pseudomyopia were randomly divided into two groups, the control group was given 10g/L atropine sulfate eye gel, and the observation group was treated with 5g/L raceanisodamine eye drops. The efficacy of two methods, the changes of axial length and intraocular pressure before and after treatment, and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared. <p>RESULTS: There was no significant difference in cure rate between the two groups(<i>χ</i>2=0.533, <i>P</i>=0.465), but the effective rate of observation group was significantly better than the control group(<i>χ</i>2=3.907, <i>P</i>=0.048). Compared with the same group before treatment, the length of the axial length of the two groups increased in different degrees, and the increase value of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group, the difference was statistically significant(<i>P</i><0.05), however, there was no significant difference between the two groups after treatment(<i>P</i>>0.05). The intraocular pressure of the two groups was significantly lower than that of the same group before treatment, and the difference between the two groups after treatments was not statistically significant(<i>P</i> >0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group(<i>χ</i>2=18.939, <i>P</i><0.05). <p>CONCLUSION: Anisodamine eye drops in the treatment of juvenile pseudomyopia has obvious curative effect, its efficacy and safety are better than atropine eye gel.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To evaluate changes in the degree of pseudomyopia and prognosis in patients with convergence spasm and acquired pseudomyopia. METHODS: The medical records of patients with convergence spasm and acquired pseudomyopia at the Korea University Medical Center from 2011 to 2014 were identified. We reviewed the patients' gender, age, onset time, visual acuity, refractive error, angle of strabismic deviation and the selected management (cycloplegics, patching, cycloplegics + patching, prism glasses). RESULTS: At the first medical examination, the mean age was 20.08 years. The mean spherical equivalent was -3.75 diopter (D) in the right eye and -4.03 D in the left eye based on manifest refraction and -2.59 D in right eye and -2.85 D in left eye using cycloplegic refraction. Eleven of 12 patients had esodeviation with a mean esodeviation of 10.42 D. The pupil size was 3.63 mm in the right eye and 3.63 mm in the left eye. No patient experienced severe miosis (pupil size <2 mm). Observation (5), patching (3), cycloplegics (2), patching + cycloplegics (1) and prism (1) management were performed in 12 patients. Outcomes included completely cured (3), improvement (7) and no change or recurrence (2). CONCLUSIONS: Active management is necessary for patients with convergence spasm and acquired pseudomyopia.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the effect of compound Tropicamide eye drop in pseudomyopia preventive treatment and summerize key points of nursing. Methods Sixty-six cases of juveniles with pseudomyopia were selected from patients in the Department of Ophthalmology, which were randomly divided into the experiment group(n=33)and control group(n=33). The control group used Atropine eye drop for treatment every night while the experiment group used compound Tropicamide. Both of Treatment durations were 30 days and the effects of the two groups after 10~30d were compared.Result The curative effect in the experiment group was significantly better than that of the control group(P<0.01)with statistically difference. Conclusions Effect of compound Tropicamide eye drop in treatment of juvenile pseudomyopia is better than that of Atropine eye drop. Recommendations and notes about the prevention and treatment of juvenile pseudomyopia should be provided for education.

ABSTRACT

Accommodative spasm is a rare condition occurring in children, adolescents, and young adults. A familial tendency for this binocular vision disorder has not been reported. I describe accommodative spasm occurring in a brother and sister. Both children presented on the same day with complaints of headaches and blurred vision. Treatment included cycloplegia drops and bifocals. Siblings of patients having accommodative spasm should receive a detailed eye exam with emphasis on recognition of accommodative spasm.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To determine changes in the degree of pseudomyopia and convergence in patients with spasm of the near reflex. METHODS: In 5 patients with spasm of the near reflex, we checked following: UCVA/BCVA, the degree of pseudomyopia revealed through manifest and cycloplegic refraction tests, pupil size, limitation of EOM, the amount of convergence defined by the alternate prism cover test, and slit lamp and funduscopic exams. RESULTS: Of the 5 patients with spasm of near reflex, 3 had accommodative spasm alone and 2 had accommodative spasm, convergence spasm and miosis. The patients' degrees of pseudomyopia and convergence were -8.0D and 14PD on the average. which disappeared after an average of 10.8 months but recurred in 1 of the 3 patients with accommodative spasm. As for spasm of the near reflex, 1 patient showed improvement in convergence but worsening pseudomyopia during the follow-up period, and another patient showed recurrence. CONCLUSIONS: The most common clinical feature of spasm of the near reflex is accommodative spasm. Patients with accommodative spasm alone showed better prognosis among all patients with spasm of the near reflex in terms of recurrence and the disease course.

ABSTRACT

Based on the survey of refraction before and after the installation of cycloplegic in thousands of school myopes in China, it appears that accommodation factor presents in 60% of cases (myopia decreased 0.5 D or more), and 10% cases belong to the pseudo-myopia (myopia disappears after the installation of cycloplegic and appears as emmetropia or hyper-opia). Long-term atropine treatment of school myopia can eliminate accommodation tonus, prevent or retard the progress of myopia. The efficiency of various treatments for pseudo-myopia should be evaluated carefully by long-term double-masked randomized clinical trials according to the principle of evidence-based medicine.
