ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo understand the stress level of people seeking psychological counseling under the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID⁃19) pandemic and to explore its related factors. MethodsAn online survey was conducted on 1 194 people who sought psychological counseling in Shanghai through the “health cloud” psychological counseling service platform. The questionnaire included demographic information, lifestyle and stress during the COVID-19 pandemic. ResultsParticipants with low, medium, high and very high stress levels accounted for 33.1% (395/1 194),34.6% (413/1 194),25.4% (303/1 194) and 7.0% (83/1 194),respectively. Women and participants aged 18 to 30 years had higher stress levels(Z=-5.368,P<0.001; Z=35.822,P<0.001) compared with other groups. Factors contributing to the rise in stress included reading too much information about COVID-19 (OR=2.057,95%CI:1.012‒4.181),large changes in sleep state (OR=3.496,95%CI:1.669‒7.325),lack of hobbies and interests (OR=2.852,95%CI:1.252‒6.500),and prone to anxiety/irritability/sadness (OR=4.098,95%CI:1.772‒9.480). Conclusionpeople who sought psychological counseling show high levels of psychological stress during the COVID-19 pandemic. We should pay more attention to the vulnerable groups with the following characteristics: women,18‒30 years old, residents who pay too much attention to the pandemic information, sleep less, and almost lose interest in hobbies, and easily become anxious/irritable/sad.

ABSTRACT

【Objective】 To investigate whether the psychological counseling nursing could alleviate psychological stress and reduce the incidence of adverse events in patients receiving advanced autologous apheresis (AAA) treatment. 【Methods】 A total of 253 patients who underwent AAA treatment in our department from September 2019 to February 2020 were studied and randomly divided into the observation group (n=127) and the control group (n=126). Other than the routine nursing, the patients in the observation group also received psychological counseling nursing. The scores of self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rating depression scale (SDS) were used to compare the psychological stress state and the incidence of adverse events between two groups, and the nursing satisfaction was evaluated by NSNS scores. 【Results】 The SAS and SDS scores in the observation group( after receiving counseling nursing as the psychological intervention) were 30.03±5.06 and 33.59±4.49, respectively, significantly lower than those in the control group (43.55±3.68 and 42.18±4.22, respectively) (P<0.05). The incidences of adverse events (convulsions not included) in the observation group and the control group were 11.8%(15/127) vs 26.2%(33/126) (palpitation and shortness of breath), 6.3%(8/127) vs 16.7%(21/126) (sweating), 8.7%(11/127) vs 23.8%(30/126) (dizziness and numbness in mouth), and 5.5%(7/127) vs 19.8%(30/126) (nausea), respectively (P<0.05). The total nursing satisfaction rate of the observation group was 98.4% (125/127), which was significantly higher than that of the control group (92.9%, 117/126) (P<0.05). 【Conclusion】 The psychological counseling nursing can effectively relieve the psychological stress of patients receiving AAA treatment and reduce the incidence of adverse events.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Introduction Efforts to identify new cases of HIV, HVC and other STIs, through the application of quick tests, focus on people who inject drugs, without taking into account the fact that the use of alcohol and other drugs of abuse inhibits decision making, increasing the transmission of STIs through risky sexual practices. Accordingly, it is necessary to have detection algorithms that consider people who use multiple drugs to improve the identification of new cases and their subsequent linkage with health services. Objective This paper describes the development process of the OPB-APR model for the detection, counseling and referral of people with HIV and other STIs at addiction treatment centers. Method The procedure is divided into three phases: 1. A literature review to identify the basic concepts of HIV and other STIs, substance use, risky sexual behaviors, quick tests, and specialized psychological counseling; 2. A feasibility study in which a health professional is trained to implement the OPB-APR model; 3. Drafting of the final version. Results The final version of the OPB-APR model was obtained, which describes standardized procedures for detection, counseling and referral to health services. Discussion and conclusions The OPB-APR model aims to strengthen the public health system by increasing the coverage of services for the detection of HIV, HCV and other STIs. The above through the implementation of standardized procedures among specialized and non-specialized health professionals of addiction care centers.

ABSTRACT

This theoretical study aims to reflect on the main aspects of the multicultural counseling that can be applied to ethnopsychological interventions, in the context of the psychological practices occurred in a backyard of Umbanda. We emphasize the typical elements of multicultural counseling adopted by the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development. The demands do not refer to spirituality, but the professionals must constantly consider the religious universe of immersion of these clients. The psychologist must not only welcome these records, but also understand them within a complex reference model that takes into account the cultural self-awareness, sensitivity to own cultural heritage as well as the need to recognize their discomfort sources with the differences that exist between them and the clients in terms of ethnicity and culture, considering the purpose of a practice psychological mixed and diverse.
