ABSTRACT

The gut microbiota and its metabolites play a critical role on health maintenance, because they are involved in the absorption and metabolism of nutrients in the human bodies. This is also similar to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) view that the ascending and descending of Qi movement affects Yin-Yang, Qi-blood, pneuma and body fluid, viscera and meridians of our bodies. More and more studies have demonstrated that gut microbiota is closely related to the development and progression of diabetes and its complications. Gut microbiota disorder could affect host metabolic signaling pathways, thereby promoting the formation and development of diabetes. The smooth ascending and descending of Qi movement is the basic form of maintaining host metabolic homeostasis, whose dysfunction however can lead to internal environment disturbance. Based on the theory of ascending and descending of Qi movement, this paper focuses on the pathogenesis of imbalanced intestinal flora in the process of the induction of diabetes mellitus from a dynamic perspective. It is assumed that the imbalance of Qi ascending and descending may act as a trigger for such symptoms as lung Qi impairment, spleen deficiency to dissipating essence, liver Qi stagnation and kidney Yang deficiency. Under this circumstance, gut microbiota will be out of balance, which will further lead to the nutrient substance metabolic disturbance in the body, and thus induce diabetes. Thus, it is significant to explore the regulatory mechanism of gut microbiota and its metabolites on diabetes based on the theory of ascending and descending of Qi movement, so as to reveal the scientific connotation of TCM in regulating substance metabolism homeostasis in the body.

ABSTRACT

The pathogenesis of edema disease is related to the Qi activity. However,in the past the understanding of edema disease is mostly centered on the theory of viscera, and it is less discussed from the perspective of Qi activity. This paper explores the edema disease from the perspective of Qi activity. The relationship can be summarized as "Water metabolism depend on the movement of Qi",so the treatment of edema disease should be paid attention to the Qi activity. In the case of digestive diseases, cirrhosis ascites is a common edema disease. This article analyzes the cirrhosis ascites as an example.

ABSTRACT

[Objective] To guide the clinical application of Fuyang medicine through the study of San Jiao Theory of ZHENG Qin'an [Method] To study the foundation theory of ZHENG Qin'an and correlate the evidence with the concept of original yang, San Jiao, Emporer fire, Minister fire and middle earth. To explain the unity and inter-relation of San Jiao and the symptons of yang deficiency of San Jiao and the approach of the use of medicine with the support of case studies. [Result] Zheng Qin'an suggested that three Jiaos are of one Jiao. The yang of upper jiao is governed by Emperor fire while that of lower Jiao by Minister fire. The two fires are of one fire. The circulation of the two fires generates the middle earth. When the middle yang fails on circulating the upper and lower Jiaos cannot communicate. The root of original yang is the kidney which is nourished by the spleen. The unity of San Jiao, the use of lower yang as the root of upper and middle yang and the use of the circulation and root nourishing action of middle yang are the keys to application of medicine. [Conclusion] The use of medicine of ZHENG strongly adhered to the qi circulation of San Jiao. It showed to the later generations a simple but comprehensive thought of Chinese medicine. It was an important guidance for the use of Fuyang medicine.

ABSTRACT

Ascending, descending, entering and exiting of qi movement is the basic form of the human life activity. Its dysfunction is a basic reason for diseases. The clinical value of starting with regulate the qi movement, summarize the causes, pathogenesis and symptoms of various kinds of diseases and determine the treatment based on syndrome are significant.
