ABSTRACT

Objective To develop a simple,multi-dimensional self-screening questionnaire for som-atoform symptoms(SQSS). Methods Based on theoretical framework, the study developed the items of the questionnaire. The first draft of the questionnaire was screened through the expert evaluation method. Four groups of 359 subjects were selected to test the reliability and validity of questionnaire. Results The explor-atory factor analysis showed that the four factors(somatic symptoms, negative perception, illness behavior and social function) were extracted and the interpretable percentage of variance was 61. 165%. The correlation between the subscales and the total scales was 0. 740-0. 887,and the correlation coefficient between the sub-scales was 0. 503-0. 625. The Crobanch's α coefficient of the questionnaire was 0. 926,and the Spearman-Brown score of the questionnaire was 0. 868. The retest correlation coefficient of the total scale was 0. 876. A cutoff of 23 points in the SQSS was identified for screening somatoform disorders, and the sensitivity was 0. 880 and the specificity was 0. 606. Conclusion SQSS has good reliability and validity, and can be prelim-inarily used as a self-screening tool for patients with somatoform symptoms or disorders in clinical settings.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the mediating effect of psychological flexibility in the relationship between the two dimensions of type-D personality(negative affect and social inhibition)and pathological in-ternet use. Methods 592 university students were sampled from central China district and were adminis-tered with Adolescent Pathological Internet Use Scale(APIUS),Type-D personality scale(DS14)and Ac-ceptance and Action Questionnaire-Second Edition(AAQ-Ⅱ).Results Pathological internet use(2.56 ± 0.61)positively correlated with negative affect(1.58±0.78)and social inhibition(1.96±0.61)(r=0.37, 0.25)respectively,and negatively correlated with psychological flexibility(4.69±1.15)(r=-0.40).Path a-nalysis with latent variables showed psychological flexibility partially but significantly mediated the predictive effect of negative affect and social inhibition on pathological internet use.The mediation rates were 56% for negative affect and 62% for social inhibition. Conclusion Psychological flexibility has significant incremen-tal validity beyond two dimensions of type-D personality, and partially mediated the effect of negative affect and social inhibition on pathological internet use. These results suggest the intervention focus of PIU can be psychological flexibility.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study on the impact of medical environment on the life meaning of med-ical students. Methods A stratified sampling method was used to investigate 220 medical students in September 2013. The content of the survey includes the evaluation of the doctor-patient relationship, the evaluation of the medical ethics of medical personnel, and the influencing factors of the life meaning of medical students. SPSS 19.0 was used to make the chi-square test and multiple linear regression analysis of the data. Results For the evaluation of the current social present situation and doctor-patient relationship, there is statistical difference (P<0.05) between the students of different sex, the student cadres and the non-student cadres. For the medical ethics present situation evaluation, there is statistically significant difference of evaluation (P<0.05) between student cadres and non-student cadres and students with different professional interests. Average score of life meaning is 85.8 points, and whether students like the profession, the current view of the doctor-patient relationship, and the current study and work conditions are the main impact factors affecting the medical students' sense of meaning of life in. Conclusions To enhance medical students' sense of life, we need to attach importance to clinical practice, strengthen professional ideological education, guide students to learn actively, and make objective and rational evaluation of medical status.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effects of a novel scientific research practice model on medical undergraduates'!cognition and behavior. Method Totally, 60 medical undergraduates took part in the research. All of them accepted scientific research training by using improved tutorial system + team-based learning (TBL) combat training models. Before and after training, students completed the same ques-tionnaires respectively. The content included the purpose of participating in scientific research activities, the interest of scientific research, and the confidence and satisfaction of publishing scientific research papers, etc.. SPSS 16.0 was used to conduct non parametric Mann-Whitney test or Wilcoxon non parametric test to the pre and post survey data. Results Fifty-seven students (95.0%) were satisfied with the novel teaching model. Before and after training, the liking scores for scientific research practice rose from 1.12 (95%CI=0.65 to 1.59) to 5.87 (95%CI=5.34 to 6.39), P=0.001. Fifty-three students (88.3%) proactively participated in research work after training compared with 21 students (35.0%) before training, P=0.000. More students had confidence in publishing academic papers on Chinese core journals or Science Citation Index journals after training (P=0.000, P=0.003 respectively). 57 students (95%) said they were very satisfied or satisfied with the training of scientific research and practice. Conclusion Improved tutorial system+TBL research combat training model can stimulate students'!interest in scientific research and make them have more pos-itive cognition and behavior on scientific research work.

ABSTRACT

Objective Our purpose was to evaluate the teaching satisfaction of clinical epi-demiology among medical postgraduate and to come up with measures for further improvement of teaching quality. Methods A self-administered questionnalre was given to all the medical postgradu-ates and doctoral students of Grade 2013 by cluster sampling when they finished the course of clinical epidemiology. A total of 559 graduate students, including 324 graduate students (58%), 235 doctoral students (42%), recruitment graduate students 350 (62.6%), on-the-job graduate student 209 (37.4%).The contents of the questionnalre included many aspects such as the investigation object in general, teaching materials evaluation satisfaction, curriculum and teacher satisfaction evaluation. Respondents ' self-administered manner was adopted. Parallel input was done by using Epidata software; data were analyzed with SPSS 19.0 software, continuous variable was made by x±s, categorical variables was expressed by n(%). Continuous variables were compared among groups by t test and analysis of vari-ance. Classification grouping variable was compared by chi-square test, and P<0.05 for the difference was statistically significant . Results Overall evaluation of theory was below that of the internship teaching materials. The satisfaction rate of practicability, meeting the learning needs and difficulty degree for theory and practice teaching material were 83.7% (468/559), 87.5% (489/559), 67.1% (375/559) and 92.7%(518/559), 89.6%(501/559), 83.0%(464/559) respectively. 41.6%(87/209) of on-the-job students and 36.7% (119/324) of postgraduates considered theory teaching material was difficult for them. The satisfaction rate for faculty teaching attitude (99.5%, 556/559), faculty teaching method (98.6%,551/559), the theories combining with practice teaching method (97.5%, 545/559) were high, but the satisfaction rate for teaching hours was low (67.4%, 377/559), with one third students consider more hours for the course. Conclusion The Teaching effect of clinical epidemiology is falrly good in our school. The postgraduates are satisfied with the teaching materials, curriculum setting, and teach-ing faculty. But there are also some shortcomings. In the future teaching work, we should appropriately increase the hours, and set corresponding teaching contents and methods according to the different learning characteristics of the on-the-job graduate students and recruitment graduate students, to improve the teaching effect and teaching quality.
