ABSTRACT

Abstract The study aimed to investigate the effects of caffeine on performance of specific precision paddle test. Twelve paddle athletes performed two specific training sessions of 45 minutes, preceded by 6mg•kg-1 of caffeine (CAF) or placebo (PLA) 30 min before. Pre and post-workout was measured handgrip endurance, recorded heart rate (HR) and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) and conducted specific volleying test. The % of maximal HR in CAF and PLA post-training were 93.6±3.3 and 92.1±4.4 respectively. There were similar responses of RPE and handgrip endurance. In the specific test was reached 31±3.2 and 34.4±4.6 points in PLA and CAF, respectively, was evidenced a 94% probable positive effect of CAF. Therefore, the CAF seems to increase efficiency in specific actions after an intense paddle workout.

ABSTRACT

The theoretical and practical, the study aims to present pedagogical methods for teaching racquet sports basing on family sports games. Although sports games with rackets show their special features and self statements that constitute the structural elements (rules, implement, players and target), operating functional attack elements (e.g. throw the ball/attachment to the opponents' space in order to score points) and defense (e.g control the ball returning to the opponent's space) and attack action rules (e.g mark the spot, trying to throw the ball with the highest level of difficulty and control the ball to return the opponent's field) and defense (e.g..anticipate the trajectory of attack, persuade the pponent's error, stop point) are similar in all, integrating into a family of sports games with rackets. It was possible to explore different manifestations of sport games with rackets, expanding the possibilities to live with this sporting event....(AU)

ABSTRACT

Aims: The aim of the present study was to analyze the differences in wheelchair tennis game statistics between winning and losing sets. Methods: Data were collected from the 139 sets of 64 matches played by 64 males' players in the 2012 Paralympics Games. The variables studied were grouped in four groups: variables related to serve, to return, to winners and errors, and to net point. Data was collected from official website of the Paralympics Games. A univariate (Wilcoxon test) and multivariate (discriminant) analysis of data was done to the study the four groups of variable in relation to the result of the set (win or lose). Results: The result showed that winning players commit fewer errors and achieved more winning shots than losing players. Conclusion: The values presented could be used as a reference for practice and competition in wheelchair tennis players.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Athletic performance is associated to an optimal morphology of the athlete. Paddle-tennis is a sport with a large number of followers needing more information about the players who practice it. The aim of this study was to describe the anthropometric somatotype of 48 high-level paddle-tennis players. ANOVA was applied to find differences between categories of the game and a T-Student test for those based on sex and athletic performance (winners and losers). The variables of weight, height and BMI are similar between players of different categories, except between males and females. Dominant somatotype of players was Meso-Endomorphic (3.6 - 6.9 - 1.9 and 4.1 - 5.4 - 3.0; in males and females, respectively). The somatotype dispersion distances show significant differences with other sports such as squash, badminton and tennis. The results provide important information to determine the ideal morphology of paddle-tennis players, so far unknown.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to analyze the physical fitness and performance level depending on play style in female table tennis players. Thirty-one female players participated in this study. The measurement factors for physical fitness were body composition, cardiopulmonary function and fitness, balance, power, flexibility, agility, isotonic and isokinetic strength, muscle endurance and anaerobic. Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney test, and Spearman correlation were used to analyze the data. The results were as follows; in cardiopulmonary function and fitness, FEV1/FVC was significantly higher in defensive style than drive style. Also, Harvard step test was significantly higher in drive style than attack style. In agility, cross run was significantly slower in attack style than the other styles. In isokinetic strength, left flexion strength of knee was significantly higher in driver style than defensive style. Also, in correlations, performance level had association with Harvard step test in defensive and attack style, 20 m run in attack style, cross run in defensive and drive style, push-ups in drive style. As different physical fitness factors were correlated on performance and scientific training program should be applied according to the play styles.
