ABSTRACT

Introduction: Diabetes is a major health problem in the world causing significant morbidity and mortality. Currently, 77 million people in India and 463 million people are living with diabetes across the world, and this number is expected to rise to 101 million in India and 578 million globally by 2030. The key to reduce the morbidity and mortality is early diagnosis and management. The Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF) has developed an Indian Diabetes Risk Score (IDRS) to identify people who are at risk of developing diabetes or are undiagnosed. Thus, we conducted a study to calculate the IDRS of people from Central India and identify those who are at risk of getting diabetes. Methods: A total of 1,500 patients or attendants, aged 18 to 60 years (mean age 41.2 years), visiting the Endocrinology clinic, and not diagnosed with diabetes earlier were included in the study after taking proper consent and IDRS was calculated. Results: The male-to-female ratio was 914:586. The mean IDRS was 51.29 in our population with 35.93%, 18.2% and 45.87% of screened subjects having a score of <30, 30-60 and ?60, respectively. Conclusion: Forty-five percent people of the population was at high risk of diabetes as estimated by IDRS, which proved to be an effective and economical tool to identify persons at increased risk of diabetes and diagnose the undiagnosed cases and start early management to reduce the morbidity and mortality.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the role of National Natural Science Foundation (NSFC) funding on improving medical research of China, based on the SCIE paper output of a teaching hospital in East China,in order to provide evidence-based decision-making basis for hospital management of scientific research and discipline construction. Methods SCIE output of a teaching hospital in East China during 2009-2015 was retrieved based on the web of science (WOS) platform. The papers funded by the NSFC were further analyzed. Results From 2009 to 2015,the output of SCIE of the hospital showed a steady upward trend, with an annual growth rate of 26.10%.Among them, the NSFC funded project output 835 papers SCIE,accounting for 46.62%oo of the total paper;and the absolute value of the output of the paper showed an upward trend year by year,an increase of 49.52%.The main subjects of the NSFC funded by the hospital focus on oncology, liver disease and digestive system diseases and cardiovascular and cardiovascular diseases, and the hospital's clinical status basically. The quality of the journals published by the NSFC SCIE project funded by the hospital was significantly improved. Conclusions NSFC funding plays an important role in improving the output and quality of SCIE papers in clinical medicine, which should be paid attention to in scientific research management and decision-making.

ABSTRACT

STUDY DESIGN: Literature review. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to present updated information on the research support programs offered by the National Research Foundation of Korea. SUMMARY OF LITERATURE REVIEW: The research support programs offered by the National Research Foundation of Korea are an important cornerstone for obtaining other grants from the government and commercial companies. However, no information has yet been provided in the literature about these programs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Review of the relevant literature. RESULTS: The research support programs offered by the National Research Foundation of Korea are complex. However, it is possible to find appropriate grants. It is necessary to focus on the individual basic research program. CONCLUSIONS: Novel proposals have a greater chance of receiving funding, especially if the appropriate background and preliminary data are provided.

ABSTRACT

In order to explore the scientific research management methods about the applicant's pre-research foundation of the science program, the paper comprehensively and quantitatively evaluated the 135 winning bidders' scientific research foundation of the National Population and Health Technology Supporting Program during the 11th Five-Year Plan Period, with the predefined the comprehensive evaluation scale of approval project foundation. The results showed that:the average of comprehensive total score of 135 bidders' approval project foundation is 9.35 ± 11.13,and the highest is 57.21 points. At the same time, five winning bidders' score is 0.The scatter of points suggested a skewed distribution that few bidders is in the high partitions, while score points densely sink at the bottom. The proposal is to set up a reasonable, standardized, quantified evaluation system of the pre scientific research foundation, which to provide review and decision-making reference for the evaluation experts and the project management departments.

ABSTRACT

Objective The purpose of this study was to evaluate the written project approval Indexes System of Capital Medical Ddevelopment Research Foundation. We analyzed the approval results of application projects and proposed measures to improve the index system. Methods We evaluated its reliability with Cronbach's alpha coefficient,split-half reliability; validity was evaluated with contract validity and content validity, discrimination was studies according to discretion grouping law,and feasibility was studied with the percentage-of-completion method. Results ① Reliability:Cronbach's alpha coefficient of factor and total scores'and split-half reliability were all over 0.80.②Contract validity:the standard factor loading coefficients of the index system were over 0.70 (range:0.57~0.86),indicating path performed well. All factor loading coefficients were statistical significant (T-values were 30.49~54.25,all were over 1.96).Fit Indexes (RMSEA =0.065、NNFI =0.99、IFI =0.99、CFI =0.99、GFI =0.95、AGFI =0.93、X2 =1028.21、X2/DF =11.82) indicated the system's goodness of fit was good.③ Content validity:Scale-level CVI,S-CVI was 0.97 and Interrater agreement was 0.93,over 0.90,which indicated that indexes system's whole Content validity performed well.Except for the item Academic thought item-level CVI being 0.57 all items' item-level CVI were 1.00.④Discrimination:Discrimination index of every primary index, secondary index and total score ranged from 0.51 to 0.76 (all were over 0.40),meaning that discrimination performed extremely well. Conclusion The indexes system's reliability, contract validity, content validity and discrimination conformed to the actual application projects appraisal results.
