Abstract: Introduction: The socio-economic growth of a country is reflected by the development of science and technology. Partnership with the third sector is therefore positive in terms of financial support for scientific projects. Objective: Accordingly, the present study aims to evaluate the most commonly used methods of fundraising by medical professors to conduct their scientific studies and whether there is recognition of the third sector as an option for such fundraising. Method: A cross-sectional analytical study with a qualitative and quantitative approach. The data were collected using an individual form, applied to medical course professors from five different universities in the north of Brazil, and analyzed using descriptive-analytical statistics. Results: The study included 138 professors, of both sexes, with an average age of ± 43.2 years. The type of research most commonly performed by professors was basic (56.1%); 68.8% used their own resources to develop their studies; 18.8% obtained funds from research support entities; 75.4% knew of a research support foundation, primarily FAPESPA (26.9%) and CNPQ (26.9%); 13.8% reported knowledge of websites and multinational companies that promote research projects, but only 2.2% submitted their initiative to public calls for funding from international institutions; when asked about the third sector, its fundamentals and actors defined by legislation, the study indicated a lack of knowledge, with 100% of inadequate answers about such entities; regarding partnership between the third sector and the State, 83.3% signaled ignorance; 100% of the interviewees were unaware of the criteria for an entity to be part of the sector, while 76.8% stated that lack of orientation about the concepts of the area is not an obstacle to raising funds for research. Conclusion: Most professors use their own funds to carry out their projects, followed by the use of public funds. Furthermore, most professionals did not recognize the third sector as a source of sponsorship, lacking information that would allow them to develop broad activities and enjoy the various opportunities offered by entities in this sector.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Measuring the impact of investment in research can contribute to a better understanding of the achievement of results in health systems and to guide the management of resources for priority areas. This study sought to evaluate the impact of 'advances in knowledge' produced by research on health funded by the Support Program for the Institutional Development of the Unified Health System (Proadi-SUS) between 2009 and 2014 in Brazil. It is an evaluative investigation based on the institutional records of project monitoring and accountability reports presented by the research institutions. The impact analysis used some of the indicators proposed by the adapted health research evaluation model of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS). The global investments were of R$ 66.49 million in 46 investigations and identified 12 subject areas, distributed in five types of studies. The main area was cardiology. The impact analysis identified the results of 28 projects (60.8%). It was possible to observe potential advances in knowledge in the field of chronic non-infectious diseases. The transfer of knowledge generated by these surveys and the impact of investing on informed decision-making and health sector benefits have not been measured and remain challenges for an effective evaluation of the program. Studies that evaluate the use of evidence produced in clinical practice and management can help understand the impact of research funded by the Proadi-SUS in other dimensions.

ABSTRACT

Since the positive listing system for prescription drug reimbursement has been introduced in Korea, the number of pharmacoeconomic evaluation studies has increased. However it is not clear if the quality of pharmacoeconomic evaluation study has improved. Due to the lack of randomized clinical studies in Korean health care setting, Korean economic evaluation studies have typically integrated the local cost data and foreign clinical data. Therefore methodological issues can be raised in regard to data coherence and consistency. But the quality of data was not questiened and the potential bias has not been investigated yet. Even though changes in policy have encouraged the undertaking of pharmacoeconomic evaluations, there is few public-side funding for validation study of cost-effectiveness models and data. Several companies perform economic evaluation studies to be submitted on behalf of their own products, but do not want the study results to be disclosed to the academic community or public. To improve the present conduct of pharmacoeconomic evaluations in Korea, various funding sources need to be developed, and, like other multidisciplinary areas, the experts in different fields of study should collaborate to ensure the validity and credibility of pharmacoeconomic evaluations.
