ABSTRACT

@#The objective of this study was to identify and characterise various resin-bonded bridge (RBB) articles published in dental journals using bibliometric analysis. The search was performed using the Scopus database to generate publications related to RBB. Data analysis and visualisation were done using Microsoft Excel, Biblioshiny software or VOSviewer. The trend of publication shows an annual growth rate of 7.19 percent within the years 1973–2022. Sixteen articles were cited more than 100 times, with seven highly cited articles focusing on the survival and/or complications of RBB. Matthias,Kern is the most prolific author in RBB research with Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry being the most influential journal. “survival”, “dental bonding” and “zirconia” were identified as core research areas for RBB for the past 10 years. Future research on the incorporation of new technology in prosthesis fabrication to assess the survival and longevity of RBB is expected to increase, with an emphasis on bonding to new materials. This paper presents an overview of scientific production, prominent researchers and countries, emerging keywords and core research areas in RBB research.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate whether dentin surface preparation with diamond rotary instruments of different grit sizes affects the shear bond strength of resin-bonded restorations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The buccal enamel of 60 maxillary central incisors was removed with a low speed diamond saw and wet ground with silicon carbide papers. The polished surfaces of the teeth were prepared with four groups of rotary diamond burs with super-coarse (SC), coarse (C), medium (M), and fine (F) grit sizes. Following surface preparation, 60 restorations were casted with nickel-chromium alloy and bonded with Panavia cement. To assess the shear bond strength, the samples were mounted on a universal testing machine and an axial load was applied along the cement-restoration interface at the crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. The acquired data was analyzed with one way ANOVA and Tukey post hoc test (α=.05). RESULTS: The mean ± SD shear bond strengths (in MPa) of the study groups were 17.75 ± 1.41 for SC, 13.82 ± 1.13 for C, 10.40 ± 1.45 for M, and 7.13 ± 1.18 for F. Statistical analysis revealed the significant difference among the study groups such that the value for group SC was significantly higher than that for group F (P<.001). CONCLUSION: Dentin surface roughness created by diamond burs of different grit sizes considerably influences the shear bond strength of resin bonded restorations.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To construct three-dimensional(3D)finite element models with 3 different retainer designs. Methods:The intact maxillary first premolar was scanned using Micro-CT.CT images were reconstructed through Mimics 10.0 software and the prima-ry 3D models were gained after improvement in the Geomagic 7.0 software,The abutments and prosthesis of cantilever resin-bonded bridg that could be identified by the FEA software were accomplished. Results:The 3D models of cantilever resin-bonded bridg with 3 different retainer designs were constructed successfully using the maxillary first premolar as the abutment. The mesh number were 553 959,468 134,516 748,respectively.Conclusion:Using Micro-CT and finite element analysis the 3D reconstruction of the cantile-ver resin-bonded bridges may be more accurate for biomechanical analysis.

ABSTRACT

Resin-bonded bridge has been an alternative to conventional bridge, since resin-bonded bridge has many attractive advantages such as minimal tooth preparation, short chair time and low cost over conventional bridge. Unfortunately, however, it was reported that resin-bonded bridge showed high failure rate from debonding of retainer in spite of consecutive advances in preparation and materials. And it was shown that multiple abutments were more likely to fail. The majority of debonding failure was considered due to the mobility of the abutment during function. In this view, recently, modification in resin-bonded bridge design was tried. Single retainer, single pontic, 2-unit cantilevered resin-bonded bridge was applied to clinical performance and was shown as retentive or more retentive than fixed-fixed type resin-bonded bridge. This was consistent with the results of studies in 2-unit cantilevered resin-bonded bridges made with all ceramic, In-Ceram. The purpose of this article was to overview principles of design and to analyze clinical results of 2-unit cantilevered resin-bonded bridge in comparison with the reports of fixed-fixed resin-bonded bridge.
