ABSTRACT

Patients with an aortic root pseudoaneurysm communicating to the right atrium are rare. A 67-year-old woman underwent ascending aorta and total aortic arch replacement for acute type A aortic dissection at our institute 9 years prior to the current presentation. She was transported to our emergency department with complaints of chest pain, palpitations, and cold sensation. A continuous murmur was heard at the right sternal margin. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) and ultrasonic cardiography showed a huge pseudoaneurysm at the proximal anastomotic site and an aorto-right atrial fistula. Ascending aortic replacement with concomitant direct closure of the fistula was successfully performed. The patient was discharged in good condition on the 14th postoperative day. Careful follow-up with CT is important after acute type A aortic dissection repair.

ABSTRACT

We assessed the late aortic reoperation after surgery for type A acute aortic dissection (AAAD). Subjects were 108 consecutive patients with AAAD who underwent surgery by routine aortic arch replacement using geratin-resorcin-formalin-glutaraldehyde (GRF) glue between January 1996 and December 2010. Seven of the 94 patients who were discharged after the initial repair of AAAD required reoperation for the residual aorta. Reoperations included 4 procedures on the distal aorta and 3 procedures on the proximal aorta (aortic root or ascending aorta) at a mean interval of 6.1±3.5 (0.9∼13.7) years after initial surgery. There were no hospital reoperation-related deaths. Freedom from reoperation was 96% and 89% at 5 and 10 years. In conclusion, the use of GRF glue may influence the risk of reoperation after surgery for AAAD, but our results showed that there were very few of such cases. Furthermore, routine aortic arch replacement for AAAD may reduce late aortic reoperations after surgery by eliminating possible risks of residual tear at the transverse arch.

ABSTRACT

Objective To establish a new spectrophotometry for determination of trace resorcin. Methods Resorcin can inhibit discolouring reaction of bromophenol red induced by H2O2 ,which is catalyzed by Fe(Ⅲ) in NH3-NH4Cl medium. Results The detection limit of this method was 0.054 ?g/ml, linear range was 0.16-2.6 ?g/ml, the optimum reaction temperature was 75℃ and the optimum reaction time was 4 min. Conclusion The present method is simple, accurate and can be used to determine trace resorcin in waste water.

ABSTRACT

Resorcin is widely being used in the fields of the therapeutics, cosmetics, industry, but allergic contact dermatitis is an infrequent adverse reaction. We have experienced a case of allergic contact dermatitis to resorcin. A 59-year-old male with Kaposi's sarcoma on the right foot developed linear erythematous vesicular eruption along the marking areas 4 days after application of Castellanis paint, used as a skin marking solution for radiation therapy. He showed patch test positive reaction to Castellani's paint as well as its individual components, resorcin and phenol.
