ABSTRACT

A cross-sectional study was conducted on 1 052 patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) who visited 10 community health service centers in Chaoyang and Haidian districts of Beijing from March 2019 to September 2019. Basic information, medical history, cardiovascular risk factors, β-blocker use, height, weight, blood pressure level and resting heart rate were collected by face-to-face interview;biochemical tests and on-site physical examination were performed;and the influencing factors of heart rate control were analyzed by logistic regression. There were 563 males (53.5%) and 489 females(46.5%),with a mean age of (66.7±9.5) years. The rate of β-blockers use was 43.6% (459/1 052). The average resting heart rate was (70±8)/min, and only 14.5% (153/ 1 052) patients had the heart rate under control. The resting heart rate control rate in patients with β-blockers use was 17.9% (82/459), higher than that of those without β-blockers use [12.0% (71/593), χ 2=7.23, P=0.007]. Moderate leisure activities were beneficial to the control of resting heart rate ( OR=2.14, 95% CI: 1.26-3.62). The study shows that β-blockers use and resting heart rate control in CHD patients in Beijing community health institutions were both at low levels, and the resting heart rate was not well controlled even in patients taking beta-blockers.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effects of hot spring baths on blood pressure, resting heart rate, cardiovascular function related indicators and physical signs in population with high-normal blood pressure. Methods Residents of typical hot spring areas in Guizhou Province were included as the subjects. According to the epidemiological survey of the research group and the physical examination results before the intervention, combined with the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 217 people with high normal blood pressure were selected as the observation subjects. The intervention of hot spring baths was carried out for four weeks, once time per day, 5 times per week, for 40-50 minutes each time. After the intervention, the blood pressure, resting heart rate and serum levels of creatine kinase(CK), lactate dehydrogenase(LDH), and α-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase(α-HBDH)were detected, and the improvement of cardiovascular related signs(palpitation, dizziness/headache, cough/sputum and night sweats)were clinically examined. SPSS 23.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Results Paired t-test results showed that the systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and resting heart rate of 217 high normal blood pressure subjects were significantly lower after hot spring baths(P < 0.01). Further analysis revealed that the number of people with high normal blood pressure dropped from 217 to 128 after the hot spring baths. Before the intervention, 95 of the 217 people with high-normal blood pressure had resting heart rates between 80 and 90 beats/min, and 35 of them above 90 beats/min. After the intervention, the resting heart rates of those above people decreased to 68 and 14, respectively. Serum levels of cardiovascular related indicators showed that CK, LDH, and α-HBDH levels in people with high-normal blood pressure decreased to some extent after the intervention, and CK level was significantly lower than that before the intervention(P < 0.05). The results of clinical examination showed that hot spring baths had a significant improvement effect on palpitation, dizziness/headache, cough/expectoration, and night sweats in people with high-normal blood pressure. Conclusion The typical hot spring baths in Guizhou Province can reduce the blood pressure and resting heart rate in population with high-normal blood pressure, and improve the cardiovascular function related indicators and physical signs to a certain extent.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the relationship between BMI, physical activity, resting heart rate and diabetes mellitus. Methods A total of 423 patients with diabetes admitted to the Department of endocrinology of our hospital from August 2017 to August 2020 were investigated by questionnaire and physical signs were examined, and the correlation between BMI, physical activity, resting heart rate and diabetes was analyzed. Results FPG, 2 h PG and HbA1c were positively correlated with resting heart rate, BMI and physical activity (P < 0.05). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that BMI (OR = 2.121), elevated resting heart rate (OR = 1.619) and less physical activity (OR = 0.711) were risk factors for diabetes. Conclusion The increase of BMI and resting heart rate and the decrease of physical activity will increase the risk of diabetes. It is particularly important to prevent the increase of BMI and resting heart rate and increase the physical labor appropriately.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Objective: Investigate the relationship between different domains of physical activity and resting heart rate (RHR) in boys and girls. Method: The sample included 1011 adolescents, aged between 10 and 17 years. RHR was measured by a heart rate monitor and physical activity was assessed in total and in three different domains (school, occupational, and sports practice) by a questionnaire. Anthropometry was directly obtained for body mass index and central fat. Ethnicity, sedentary behavior, and smoking habits were self-reported and used to adjust the analysis, through hierarchical linear regression. Results: Total physical activity was associated with low RHR in boys (β = −0.52; 95% CI: −0.92, −0.12) and girls (β = −0.67; 95% CI: −1.07, −0.28). Although sporting physical activities were associated with low RHR in both boys (β = −0.58; 95% CI: −1.05, −0.11) and girls (β = −0.87; 95% CI: −1.34, −0.39), occupational physical activity was related to low RHR only in boys (β = −1.56; 95% CI: −2.99, −0.14). Conclusion: The practice of physical activity in the sport practice domain and total physical activity were related to low RHR in both sexes, while occupational physical activities were associated with RHR only in boys.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To estimate the univariate heritability of resting heart rate and common chronic disease such as hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia based on extended pedigrees in Fujian Tulou area and to explore bivariate heritability to test for the genetic correlation between resting heart rate and other relative phenotypes.@*METHODS@#The study was conducted in Tulou area of Nanjing County, Fujian Province from August 2015 to December 2017. The participants were residents with Zhang surname and their relatives from Taxia Village, Qujiang Village, and Nanou Village or residents with Chen surname and their relatives from Caoban Village, Tumei Village, and Beiling Village. The baseline survey recruited 1 563 family members from 452 extended pedigrees. The pedigree reconstruction was based on the family information registration and the genealogy booklet. Univariate and bivariate heritability was estimated using variance component models for continuous variables, and susceptibility-threshold model for binary variables.@*RESULTS@#The pedigree reconstruction identified 1 seven-generation pedigree, 2 five-generation pedigrees, 23 four-generation pedigrees, 186 three-generation pedigrees, and 240 two-generation pedigrees. The mean age of the participants was 57.2 years and the males accounted for 39.4%. The prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia in this population was 49.2%, 10.0%, and 45.2%, respectively. The univariate heritability estimation of resting heart rate, hypertension, and dyslipidemia was 0.263 (95%CI: 0.120-0.407), 0.404 (95%CI: 0.135-0.673), and 0.799 (95%CI: 0.590-1), respectively. The heritability of systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, fasting glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol was 0.379, 0.306, 0.393, 0.452, 0.568, 0.852, and 0.387, respectively. In bivariate analysis, there were phenotypic correlations between resting heart rate with hypertension, diabetes, diastolic blood pressure, fasting glucose, and triglyceride. After taking resting heart rate into account, there were strong genetic correlations between resting heart rate with fasting glucose (genetic correlation 0.485, 95%CI: 0.120-1, P<0.05) and diabetes (genetic correlation 0.795, 95%CI: 0.181-0.788, P<0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#Resting heart rate was a heritable trait and correlated with several common chronic diseases and related traits. There was strong genetic correlation between resting heart rate with fasting glucose and diabetes, suggesting that they may share common genetic risk factors.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To prospectively explore the relationship between resting heart rate (RHR) and risk of new-onset heart failure. Methods: It was a prospective cohort study. People who attended the physical examination of Kailuan Group Company in 2006 and with complete electrocardiography (ECG) recordings were eligible for this study. A total of 88 879 participants aged 18 years old or more who were free of arrhythmia, a prior history of heart failure and were not treated with β-blocker were included. Participants were divided into 5 groups according to the quintiles of RHR at baseline (Q(1) group, 40-60 beats/minutes (n=18 168) ; Q(2) group, 67-70 beats/minutes (n=18 970) ; Q(3) group, 71-74 beats/minutes (n=13 583) ; Q(4) group, 75-80 beats/minutes (n=22 739) ; and Q(5) group,>80 beats/minutes (n=15 419) ) .The general clinical data and laboratory test results were collected. The outcome was the first occurrence of heart failure at the end of follow-up (December 31, 2016) .We used Cox regression model to examine the association between RHR and the risk of new-onset heart failure. Hazard ratio (HR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using Cox regression modeling. Results: Among the included patients 68 411 participants were male, mean age was (51.0±12.3) years old, and RHR was (74±10) beats/minutes. Statistically significant differences among the RHR quintiles were found for the following variables: age, gender, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, fasting blood glucose, body mass index, the level of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, education status, physical activity, smoking status, drinking status, history of diabetes, history of hypertension and history of use antihypertensive drugs (all P<0.01) . Higher RHR was linked with higher prevalence of diabetes, hypertension history, and higher systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and FBG levels (all P<0.01). After a mean follow-up of 9.5 years, the incidence of new-onset heart failure in Q(1), Q(2), Q(3), Q(4) and Q(5) groups was 1.60%(290/18 168), 1.36%(258/18 970), 1.80%(245/13 583), 1.76%(400/22 739) and 2.35%(362/15 419),respectively (P<0.01) . The person-year incidence of heart failure in Q(1), Q(2), Q(3), Q(4) and Q(5) groups was 1.7, 1.5, 1.9, 1.9 and 2.6 per 1 000 person-years respectively. Compared with the Q(2) group, multivariate analysis with adjustment for major traditional cardiovascular risk factors showed that HRs of Q(3),Q(4),and Q(5) group were 1.23 (95%CI 1.03-1.48, P<0.05) , 1.19 (95%CI 1.01-1.41, P<0.05) , 1.39 (95%CI 1.18-1.65, P<0.01) , respectively. In the absence of hypertension, diabetes, smoking and acute myocardial infarction, the Cox regression model showed that compared with Q(2) group, the HR of new-onset heart failure in Q(5) group was 1.58 (95%CI 1.02-2.45, P<0.05) . Conclusion: Increased RHR is associated with increased risk of new-onset heart failure in this cohort.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the sex- and age-specific association between resting heart rate and hypertension in rural adult residents of Henan province. Methods: At baseline, a total of 20 194 participants were randomly selected from Xin'an County of Henan province between July 2007 and August 2008. After excluding participants with hypertension or without resting heart rate data at baseline, and participants died or without hypertension outcome or diagnosed as gestational hypertension during follow-up between July 2013 and October 2014, 10 212 participants were finally included in this study. Multiple linear regression model was used to examine the association between resting heart rate and change of blood pressure. Logistic regression model was used to estimate the association between resting heart rate and risk of hypertension. Results: There were 2 059 new hypertensive cases (839 male) during the 6 years follow-up. After controlling for potential confounders, per 5 beats/minutes increases in resting heart rate was associated with 0.18 mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa) (95%CI 0.01-0.36 mmHg, P=0.046) absolute increase in systolic blood pressure and 7% higher risk of developing hypertension in women (95%CI 1.03-1.11, P<0.05). Compared with resting heart rate<70 beats/minutes, the adjusted RRs for 76-82 and>82 beats/minutes groups were 1.39 (95%CI 1.18-1.63, P<0.05) and 1.22 (95%CI 1.02-1.45, P<0.05), respectively. For both age groups, increased resting heart rate was positively associated with risk of hypertension in women(RR=1.05(95% CI 1.01-1.10), P<0.05 (the women those <60 years); RR=1.14(95% CI 1.04-1.25), P<0.05 (the women those≥60 years). However, no significant association was found between resting heart rate and hypertension in male residents. Conclusions: Increased resting heart rate is associated with high risk of hypertension in women who live in rural area, especially in elder women of this cohort.

ABSTRACT

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a clinical syndrome characterized by hyperglycaemia due to absolute or relative insulin deficiency. Cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy (CAN) invokes potentially life-threatening outcomes especially in poorly controlled diabetic patients. This study was to evaluate the prevalence of CAN in diabetic patients and its relationship with QTc interval. Methods: This observational study of two year duration was included total 123 patients of more than 30 (thirty) years and up to 60 (sixty) years of age who were presented with diabetic mellitus (DM) those were evaluated for CAN using four distinct clinical tests-Resting heart rate (RHR), test for orthostatic hypotension (OH), hand gripping test (HGT) and QTc interval on ECG. Data were analyzed with statistical package for social sciences (SPSS), version 23.Results: The mean age of all 103 studied patients was 48.94±8.69 years; Mostly patients belong to 50-60 years of age and the majority was males (69.0%). Out of 103 72.8% patients were reported with CAN (51 males and 24 females) and without CAN were 27.2.0% (20 males and 8 females), 36% of patients of Definite Parasympathetic neuropathy, 25% Normal and 20% of Sympathetic neuropathic patients. HbA1c level increases the danger of CAN also. QTc interval is a reliable indicator for the presence of CAN.Conclusions: Duration of diabetes is directly proportional to the prevalence of CAN. Various cardiac autonomic function tests detect CAN.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To examine whether the long-term resting heart rate (RHR) pattern can predict the risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (CVDs).@*Methods@#This prospective cohort study included 63 040 participants who took part in the health examination in 2006 and one of the health examinations on 2008 or 2010 and were free of myocardial infarction, stroke, arrhythmia, cancer and not treated with β-recepter blocker. The outcomes were the first occurrence of myocardial infarction and stroke during the follow up ended on December 31, 2015. RHRs were measured in 2006, 2008, and 2010. We used latent mixture modeling SAS Proc procedure to identify RHR trajectories. We identified 4 distinct RHR trajectory patterns based on the data derived from 2006 and on the pattern change during 2006 to 2010 (low-stable, moderate-stable, moderate-increasing, elevated-decreasing). Collected the general clinical data of the patients. Cox regression model was used to determine the association between RHR trajectory patterns and the risk of CVDs during follow up. Hazard ratio (HR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using Cox regression modeling.@*Results@#There were statistical significance among the 4 distinct RHR trajectory patterns on the following variables: age, gender, smoking status, drinking status, physical activity, education status, history of use antihypertensive drugs, history of hypertension, history of diabetes, body mass index, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, fasting blood glucose, and the level of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (all P<0.01). The moderate-increasing pattern experienced the highest risk of developing stroke and CVDs among all 4 patterns. The cumulative incidence of cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage and CVDs in the order of low-stable trajectory, moderate-stable trajectory and moderate-increasing trajectory. The cumulative incidences of cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage and CVDs in elevated-decreasing trajectory group were significantly lower than those in moderate-increasing trajectory group, but higher than those in moderate-stable trajectory group. Compared to the low-stable pattern, adjusted HR was 1.3 (95%CI 1.0-1.6) for the moderate-increasing pattern after adjustment for potential confounders.@*Conclusion@#Our study finds that individuals with moderate-increasing RHR trajectory pattern are associated with higher risk of cardiovascular and CVDs.

ABSTRACT

Objective_ To investigate the effect of resting heart rate on the progression to diabetes in impaired glucose regulation patients. Methods A total of 638 patients with impaired glucose regulation, from January 2011 to December 2012 in our endocrinology clinic, were selected for the study. According to the resting heart rate, patients were divided into four groups:75 beat/min groups. All patients'baseline data were collected. The incidences of diabetes in different resting heart rate groups were compared, and the relationship between resting heart rate and the progression to diabetes was estimated using multiple regression analysis. Results In 704 patients with impaired glucose regulation, 636 patients have been completed 2 years follow-up, or reached the end of follow-up ( diagnosed as diabetes ) , the follow-up rate was 90. 34%. During two years follow-up, the incidence of diabetes of75 beat/min group were 16. 2%, 19. 4%, 25. 0%, and 33. 0%, respectivlely. And the Cochran Armitage trend test showed that χ2 =11. 109, P=0. 001, the difference was statistically significant ( P<0. 05). According to blood glucose monitoring, the 636 patients with impaired glucose regulation were divided into impaired fasting glucose group, impaired glucose tolerance group and impaired fasting glucose combined with impaired glucose tolerance group:the Cochran Armitage trend test showed that, with the resting heart rate accelerating, the incidence of diabetes increased. The incidence of diabetes in impaired fasting glucose combined with impaired glucose tolerance group was higher than that of impaired fasting glucose group and impaired glucose tolerance group ( P=0. 062, 0. 113). The average resting heart rate in 68 impaired glucose regulation patients progressed to diabetes was (79.8±8.3)beat/min,andin568non-diabetescases,itwas(74.5±7.2)beat/min(t=-5.043,P<0.01). With the use of patients progressing to diabetes as the dependent variable, different resting heart rate group as independent variables, and resting heart rate<66 beat/min group as a reference, the logistic regression analysis showed that the risk of the progression to diabetes increased with the resting heart rate levels. Conclusion Higher resting heart rate is linked to higher risk of diabetes in patients with impaired glucose regulation.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:Taking metoprolol succinate sustained-release tablets as an example,to explore the value of speckle tracking imaging in therapeutic efficacy evaluation of CHF drugs. METHODS:68 CHF patients who had never underwent regular treatment were given Metoprolol succinate sustained-release tablets and anti-heart failure agents for 3 months. NYHA classification, resting heart rate(RHR),6 min walk distance(6MWD)and conventional echocardiographic measurements were tested before and 1 and 3 months after treatment. Dynamic image were collected in the apical 2-chamber view, apical 4-chamber view and left ven-tricular long axis plane for speckle tracking imaging offline analysis. The left ventricular global longitudinal strain (LVGLS) were measured. After 3 months of treatment,CHF patients were divided into standard group(group A,RHR 55-60 times/min)and non-standard group (group B,RHR>60 times/min) according to resting heart rate. The improvement of above indicators were com-pared between 2 groups, and that of LVGLS was also compared. RESULTS:After 1 month of treatment,RHR,LVEDd,LVEF and LVGLS of group A were improved significantly, compared with group B,with statistical significance (P<0.05). After 3 months of treatment, there was statistical significance in above indicators between 2 groups(P<0.05). In group A,RHR,6MWD and LVGLS improved significantly after 1 month of treatment, there was statistical significance, compared with before treatment (P<0.05);there was statistical significance in above indicators after 3 months of treatment, compared with before treatment and after 1 month of treatment (P<0.05). In group B,RHR and 6MWD improved significantly after one month of treatment;there was statistical significance, compared with before treatment(P<0.05);there was statistical significance in significant improvement of each indicator between after 3 months of treatment and before treatment (P<0.05);only there were statistical significance in RHR and NYHA grading, compared with after one month of treatment(P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS:Speckle tracking imaging can early reflect the left ventricular function improvement of CHF patients after anti-heart failure treatment, especially in patients with RHR control standard earlier and more significant. Speckle tracking had good clinical application value in the follow-up treatment of heart failure as routine evaluation index.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to examine the association between resting heart rate (RHR), the risk factors and prevalences of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Korean adults. METHODS: A cross sectional analysis was performed on data from the 2012 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES V) using frequency analysis, analysis of covariance (ANCOVA), and logistic regression. Participants were stratified according to RHR into 5 groups; or =90 bpm. RESULTS: The results show that risk factors of MetS and T2D increased as RHR increased. Compared to those with a RHR of or =90 bpm by 1.46 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.03-2.08), 2.05 (95% CI, 1.42-2.96), 2.34 (95% CI, 1.57-3.48), and 2.34 (95% CI, 1.23-4.47), respectively. Similarly, compared to those with a RHR of or =90 bpm by 1.01 (95% CI, 0.72-1.41), 1.44 (95% CI, 1.02-2.05), 1.83 (95% CI, 1.25-2.68), and 2.40 (95% CI, 1.30-4.44), respectively. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, RHR was significantly associated with risk factors and prevalences of MetS and T2D. This study suggests that RHR is associated with MetS and T2D and can be used to predict such diseases.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the relationship between resting heart rate (RHR)and carotid artery structure in young hypertensive patients. Methods A total of 663 primary hypertensive patients aged between 18 and 45 (38.01 ± 5.78) were chosen from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from January,2009 to January,2012.Patients under this study were divided into three groups according to their RHRs:group A (RHR<70 bpm,n=163),group B(70 bpm≤RHR<80 bpm,n=268),group C (RHR≥80 bpm,n=232).Data on bilateral carotid artery intima-media thickness, common carotid artery diameter were detected by carotid ultra-sonography.Indexes of carotid artery were analyzed by both variance and bi-variate correlation analysis. Results 1)Differences in the blood pressure among three groups showed statistical significance (P<0.01),with diastolic pressure in group A higher than in group B (P<0.05),while both systolic and diastolic pressure in group C higher than in group B (P<0.01).2)In group A,the right carotid artery diameter was higher than in group C(P<0.05) and the left carotid artery diameter higher than in group B(P< 0.05) with the left carotid artery diameter higher than in group C (P<0.05).3) Significant positive correlations were found between RHR and blood pressure (r =0.112,0.118) and negative correlation between RHR and left carotid artery diameter (r=-0.89).However,correlation between RHR and right carotid artery diameter was not significant (r=-0.075,P=0.068).Conclusion When blood pressure had an increase,we found that the carotid artery diameter was decreasing along with the increasing RHR among the young hypertensive patients.

ABSTRACT

RESULTADOS: Características demográficas, antropométricas, fisiológicas e carga máxima atingida no teste ergométrico: idade = 63 ± 3,0 anos; IMC = 24 ± 2kg/m²; FC = 63 ± 9bpm; PAS = 123 ± 19mmHg; PAD = 83 ± 8mmHg; carga máxima = 152 ± 29 watts.

INTRODUCTION: One of the benefits provided by regular physical activities seems to be the improvement of cardiac autonomic nervous system modulation. However, the role of physical activity as a determinant factor of the heart rate variability (HRV) is not well-established. Therefore, the aim of this study was to verify whether there was a correlation between resting heart rate and maximum workload reached in an exercise test with HRV indices in elderly men. METHODS: A study was carried out with 18 elderly men between the ages of 60 and 70 years. The following evaluations were made: a) Maximal exercise test on a cycle ergometer using Balke treadmill protocol to evaluate the aerobic capacity; b) Heart Rate (HR) and RR Intervals (RRi) registered for 15 minutes at rest, in the supine position. After collection, data were analyzed by time domain (RMSSD index) and by the frequency domain (low (LF) and high (HF) frequency indices and LF/HF ratio). Pearson correlation test was used to verify whether there was a correlation between the maximum workload reached during the exercise test and the HRV indices (p < 0.05). RESULTS: Demographic, physiological, and anthropometric characteristics and the maximum load achieved during exercise test: Age = 63 ± 3.0 years; BMI = 24 ± 2 kg/m2; HR = 63 ± 9 bpm; SBP = 123 ± 19 mmHg; DBP = 83 ± 8 mmHg; maximum workload = 152 ± 29 watts. No correlation was found between the HRV indices with the values of the resting heart rate and the maximum workload reached in the exercise test (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Temporal and spectral indices of heart rate variability are not indicators of aerobic capacity of elderly men evaluated on a cycle ergometer.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective To investigate the relationship between resting heart rate (RHR) and coronary heart disease (CHD) and to explore the value of RHR in predicting the occurrence of acute coronary syndrome. Methods 445 patients with CHD were divided into stable angina group and acute coronary syndrome group. RHR, risk factors for coronary heart disease and their correlation were analyzed. Results RHR was higher in the acute coronary syndrome group than in the stable angina group (P<0.01). Logistic regression analysis showed that RHR (OR =1.052, 95% CI: 1.009~1.097, P=0.017), systolic blood pressure (OR=1.027, 95% CI: 1.003~1.053, P=0.031) and hyperglycemia (OR=2.743, 95% CI: 1.207~6.233, P=0.016) were independent risk factors for acute coronary syndrome. Conclusion RHR is an independent risk factor for incidence of acute coronary syndrome.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate if the intervallic exercise near to the maximum of intensity in a similar fitness population and in women is more effective to improve aerobic capacity than the continuous one of smaller intensity. In order to do it, ten healthy women between 18 and 25 years habitual inhabitants of Bogotá city (located at 2600masl) were selected. They signed the informed consent and were divided randomly in two groups of five participants. They were undergoing to two traditional types of training of ten weeks, three times per week, one hour of duration every day. The continuous training group (Group 1) had a VO2peak intensity of 60%; for his part, the intervallic training group (Group 2) had five sessions of ten minutes of exercise at 70% of VO2peak and 90 seconds of recovery between each session. It was possible to demonstrate that, although the Cardiac Frequency (CF) average of group 2 participants during the exercise sessions were always over those of group 1, this difference was not statistically significant. In the same way, the basal CF and the recovery CF, as well as the VO2peak, did not have significant differences between both groups. The systolic and diastolic blood pressure average, as well as the Respiratory Frequency (FR) were always superior in group 2, and these differences were really significant. It was possible to conclude that there is not a significant difference in cardiovascular fitness between sedentary young women, after 10 weeks of two traditional types of aerobic training, one 60% continuous and other one 70% intervalic.
