ABSTRACT

Abutment teeth supporting removable partial denture could be faced a number of problems including development of dental caries. If the existing removable partial denture is in clinically acceptable state and the patient does not want to replace the existing removable partial denture, then a new prosthesis for abutment teeth need to be made. The procedure of fabricating a new prosthesis of abutment teeth for existing removable partial denture is complicate and technically challenging. To fabricate the abutment crown, the original cast of patient obtained before any complication to the abutment teeth is required. The original cast should also contain teeth other than the abutment teeth as a reference point. Once the cast is prepared, CAD/CAM could be used to produce retrofitting prosthesis effortlessly and efficiently. This clinical report presents fabricating a crown to fit existing removable partial denture using CAD/CAM for a patient with post and core failure and dislodged prosthesis. The prosthesis had high stability with minimum adjustment yielding satisfying result.

ABSTRACT

This study was done to determine the relationship between indoor air quality and Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) among students in Retrofitting Building (Building A) located in Kuala Lumpur and Purposed-built Building (Building B) located in Selangor. A cross sectional study was conducted among student from selected buildings with the total number of 130 respondents. Modified questionnaire based on Indoor Air Quality and Work Symptoms Survey, NIOSH, Indoor Environmental Quality Survey, 1991 was used to record the number of students experienced SBS. Measurement of indoor air quality was performed using instruments recommended by the IAQ Code of Practice, Department of Occupational Safety and Health, Malaysia. There was a significantly higher number of occupants experienced SBS in Building A (60 of 65 respondents) compared to Building B (50 of 65 respondents) (Χ 2 = 4.127, p = 0.042). It was also found that there is a significant difference between the numbers of respondents having SBS between Building A and Building B (p < 0.045). Building A had higher CO2, bacteria, fungi, and UFP significantly as compared to Building B. However, only CO was significantly higher in Building B compared to Building A. It is suggested thatregular maintenance of both buildings is compulsory as ventilation played an important role in maintaining good indoor air quality in a building.

ABSTRACT

Fabricating a surveyed prosthesis beneath an existing partial removable dental prosthesis (PRDP) is a challenging and time-consuming procedure. The computer-aided design/computer-assisted manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology was applied to fabricate a retrofitted, surveyed zirconia prosthesis to an existing PRDP. CAD/CAM technology enabled precise and easy replication of the contour of the planned surveyed crown on the existing abutment tooth. This technology ensured excellent adaptation and fit of newly fabricated crown to the existing PRDP with minimal adjustments. In this case report, a seventy-year-old male patient presented with fractured existing surveyed crown. Because the existing PRDP was serviceable, new crown was fabricated to the existing PRDP.

ABSTRACT

This article describes a technique for repair of abutment tooth which fractured during removal of a provisional restoration before bisque trial. The technique uses plastic templates to fabricate new composite core foundation for the existing crowns. This technique helps the dentist to rebuild the core in a single appointment.
