ABSTRACT

El Síndrome de Meig se define como un tumor pélvico con ascitis e hidrotórax, que se resuelve con la extracción del tumor. Este caso concierne a una mujer de 49 años que acudió al Hospital Universitario de la paz de Puerto Príncipe con dificultad para respirar. Se palpaba una tumoración abdominopélvica, móvil, al examen pélvico bimanual. La evaluación mediante ultrasonido demostró ascitis y una tumoración sólida que se extendía desde la pelvis hasta el riñón derecho. Al practicarse la laparotomía, el diagnóstico fue de fibroma de ovario. El derrame pleural se resolvió completamente en el postoperatorio. Se discute la importancia clínica de este Síndrome.


Meig´s syndrome is defined as a pelvic tumor with ascites and hydrothorax which is solved with the extraction of the tumor. This case concerns a 49 years old woman who presented at the University Hospital of La Paz of Port-au-Prince with breathing difficulty. An abdominal pelvic was palpated, movable at bimanual pelvic exam. Evaluation through ultrasound showed ascites and solid tumor that extended from the pelvis to the roght kidney. When laparatomy was applied, the diagnosis was an ovarian fibroma. The pleural discharge was completely solved with the postsurgery. The clinical importance of this syndrome is being discussed.
