ABSTRACT

There has to be an immediate adjustment in the process used to evaluate students at higher education institutions. In the majority of institutions, evaluation of students is still done at the conclusion of the academic year using a single standardised exam. Students are evaluated on the basis of this single test for their subject knowledge and conceptual clarity, and they are then given a mark sheet and certificate to use when applying for jobs. The Ratta method was given more weight in the Indian examination system, which is a fundamental aw that requires immediate remedy. Since complete educational objectives like comprehension, critical and independent thinking, creativity, problem-solving ability, reflective thinking, skill development, and application of information in real life are overlooked, the memorising of content takes precedence. Numerous educational committees have drawn attention to this flaw. Examinees' anxiety and fear are further exacerbated by the "Ratta system," and occasionally this anxiety results in the usage of unfair test practises. Cramming is encouraged as a way to gain better grades across the Indian examination system, which leads to a pressured environment. This paper focuses on the application of such an assessment approach of student which is free from rote memorization and emphasises conceptual understanding, skill development and knowledge gained through search and analysis.

ABSTRACT

Calcium as a ubiquitous messenger participates in the pathophysiology progresses of various cells. Synchronized calcium signaling transduction is related to normal cardiac myocyte excitation-contraction coupling and beating rhythm. Calcium homeostasis abnormality in atrial myocyte is an important influencing mechanism of atrial fibrillation (AF), and it is mostly resulted from calcium leak caused by destabilization of sarcoplasmic reticulum calcium release channel ryanodine receptor 2 (RyR2). Calcium leaks, including calcium sparks and calcium waves, can trigger extra depolarization and even action potential, and cause AF on the basis of atrial pathology altering matrices. In this review, we summarized the manifestations and influencing factors of calcium leak, and its potential role in the development and progress of AF.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Graph shellability is an NP problem whose classification either in P or in NP-complete remains unknown. In order to understand the computational behavior of graph shellability on bipartite graphs, as a particular case, it could be useful to develop an efficient way to generate and analyze results over sets of shellable and non-shellable instances. In this way, a sequentially designed exponential time experiment for deciding shellability on randomly generated instances was proposed in literature. In this work, with the aim of improving the performance of that experiment, we propose three alternative approaches using Apache Spark™, we called multi-core, multi-node and full-parallel. We tested and compared their execution time for bipartite graphs with 10,12,15,20 and 50 vertices with regard to the original version, and we got speedups between 1.37 and 1.67 for the first one, between 2.34 and 3.56 for the second one, and between 2.37 y 3.12 for the last version. The results suggest that parallelization could relieve the large execution times of the original approach.

ABSTRACT

Objective To improve the analysis efficiency and interactive experience of the Military Electronic Health Records System(MEHRS)and to realize quick response of ad-hoc queries and statistics in the MEHRS with big data columnar storage and processing technologies. Methods We carried out requirement analysis and functional design of the ad-hoc queries and statistics subsystem of the MEHRS,proposed a three-tier architecture which included the archive storage layer, statistical pretreatment layer and statistical application layer. After the selection and evaluation of big data processing technologies,CarbonData columnar storage was used to store preprocessed data and executed statistics with Spark SQL on the basis of medical business data modeling and preprocessing. Results Five testing tasks were executed on two million archives in the following two subsystems:one with modeless and non-preprocessed MongoDB storage, the other with modeled and preprocessed CarbonData storage. The latter could finish these tasks within seconds and was dozens of times more efficient than the former statistically. Conclusion This study designs and implements a big data technology proposal that satisfies the quick response of ad-hoc queries and statistics in the MEHRS, providing powerful and flexible technical support for big data statistical analysis.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To report a case of maculopathy after exposure to a high-voltage spark. CASE SUMMARY: A 40-year-old male patient visited our clinic complaining of visual disturbance in both eyes 1 day after exposure to a high voltage arc discharge. His best corrected visual acuity was 4/20 in both eyes. On fundus examination, a yellowish retinal scar was observed at the foveal area. The spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) showed inner segment/outer segment line disruption. The best corrected visual acuity was 4/20 in both eyes and SD-OCT showed a remaining inner segment/outer segment line disruption after 3 years. CONCLUSIONS: Maculopathy can result from exposure to a high voltage arc discharge exposure.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To evaluate the influence of the implant-supported porcelain bridges made from non-precious metals using spark erosion techniques, and to discuss the feasibility and details of making the implant restoration by spark erosion technique. Methods: The study included 12 patients ( 9 males and 3 females) with 92 units implant-supported non-precious porcelain bridge from Sep.2011 to Feb. 2013.All the patients received implant treatment in Department of Oral Implantology, Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology. The total of 52 implants, were from Nobel Biocare implant system, Camlog implant system and Ankylos implant system. The implant analogs were connected in sequence with a copper wire to guarantee conductivity. The implant electrodes represented one electrode and the superstructure the other.During spark-erosion machining, the cast holding the implant electrodes and the prosthetic framework were moved toward one another, causing an electrical erosion of the protruding ele-ments.Results:After the spark-erosion machining, the minimum gap between the framework and abut-ment was 0.21 mm, which was two units bridge. The maximum was 2.59 mm, which was 11 units bridge with 6 implants. The average gap was 0.68 mm.After the spark-erosion machining, the bridge fitted well with the passive position stability. Conclusion: The method of making implant-supported non-precious porcelain bridge reduces costs on patients.Spark erosion has the potential to provide implant framework with an excellent fit.The patients are satisfied with the clinical results.

ABSTRACT

Injury to the ear in welders is a recognized but poorly documented entity. The risk for ear injury from molten metal or hot sparks produced during welding procedures is low, but the effects can be significant. Burns, tympanic membrane perforations and chonic otorrhoea are the most common results. One case recently experienced at our institution highlight the risk that exists for middle ear injury. The traumatic thermal injury was caused by a metal spark perforating the tympanic membrane during welding. Neither subject was using ear protection at the time. The use of ear protection is strongly advocated during welding operations that place the ear at risk.
