ABSTRACT

The process of evaluating the effectiveness of Social Technology for Professional Qualification requires reliable and compact instruments. Therefore, the present study aims to evaluate evidence of the validity of an impairment scale to the Application of Social Technology. The sample consisted of 299 professionals working in public institutions attending people under conditions of social vulnerability in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The exploratory analysis of graph data suggested a structure with three factors: interpersonal relationship, infrastructure, and perceptions of work with vulnerable populations. The confirmatory factor analysis presented low residue indexes and excellent fit indices. The results demonstrate the adequacy of the scale to investigate factors that impair the application of the contents of professional training.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The aim of this study was to develop ‘Koreans Gut Quotient Measurement Scales (GQ)’, in which Koreans respond to questionnaires about the subjective feelings and symptoms of their intestinal health status.METHODS: Among 66 items pooled from previous studies and 4 items that were added following a focus group interview, 15 items were chosen using the Delphi survey. The content validity was evaluated using the content validity ratio. Data collected from 1,120 people from the general public in Korea were analyzed to verify the reliability and validity of GQ.RESULTS: The finalized GQ consisted of 17 items (including two exploratory measurement items) that were classified into three independent factors based on exploratory factor analysis (EFA): ‘perceived intestine discomfort’, ‘bowel movement discomfort’, and ‘bowel movement control discomfort’. The discriminant and convergent validity of GQ were identified using EFA, reliability test, and confirmatory factor analysis. In addition, the criterion-related validity of GQ was identified using correlation and multiple regression analysis.CONCLUSIONS: The GQ, which is a simplified intestinal health index developed based on an easy questionnaire for the public to understand, can be used as a tool for the public to evaluate their own intestinal health and determine when to visit clinics.

ABSTRACT

This article aimed to gather evidence of the validity and accuracy of the Unifactorial Scale of Academic Self-Efficacy (EUAA). It was divided into two stages (cross-validation) and encompasses the Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis, as well as adjustment indexes. 299 students from various states of Brazil participated in study 1, with an average age of 22.24 (SD = 3.75), predominantly female (69.6%) and students from public institutions (88.3%). The results of this study indicate 1 factor with α = 0.93. 315 students participated in study 2, which were distributed over a number of Brazilian states, with an average age of 23.21 (SD = 5.25), most of whom were female (60%) and from public institutions (95.2%). The results confirm the scale's one-dimensionality, with CC = 0.95 and α = 0.91. All adjustment indices were satisfactory and within the limits established by the literature. The suggestion is to apply this scale in future studies to investigate the effects of academic self-efficacy on learning processes and academic success. ABSTRACT

Scales 21-item (DASS-21) has been widely used ever since the establishment of its validity. To consolidate the evidence of the BM DASS-21 validity by examining its concurrent validity. Methods: The BM DASS was administered together with the Hospital Anxiety and Depressive Scale (HADS) to a total of 246 patients at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Infertility Centre. Results: The anxiety domain of BM DASS-21 had good correlation with anxiety domain in HADS (0.61) but for DASS depressive domain, it had modest correlation with its respective domain in HADS (0.49). Conclusions: The results of this study further ensconced the evidence that the BM DASS-21 had relatively satisfactory psychometric properties for clinical subjects in Malaysia.

ABSTRACT

This paper aimed: (1) to produce a Brazilian version of the Personality Adjective Check List (PACL), a test for personality assessment based on normal version styles proposed by Millon's personality disorders theory, (2) to verify validity evidence of the instrument by means of a factorial analysis (internal structure) and of the relationship with external variables, and (3) to investigate internal consistency of the scales. Participants were 203 undergraduate students, aged from 18 to 50 years old, 98 men and 105 women. It was found five factors in accordance with previous research on PACL. The reliability coefficients of the original factors ranged from 0,66 to 0,95. The results suggest that the PACL has adequate psychometric properties.

ABSTRACT

Family caregivers burden has been frequently reported in international researches using validated scales, but rarely in Brazil, perhaps due to the restrict availability of burden scales. OBJECTIVE: The present study examined the validity of the Brazilian version of the Family Burden Interview Schedule (FBIS-BR). METHOD: A sample of 100 family caregivers of psychiatric patients attending three public outpatient services were interviewed with the application of three scales: FBIS-BR, BI and SRQ-20. Socio-demographic data were collected with a standardized form. RESULTS: Criterion validity of the FBIS-BR scale was investigated analyzing its correlation with the BI scale, which evaluates the same construct of family burden and the significant scores obtained varied between 0.23 e 0.69 (p<0.01). The construct validity of the FBIS-BR scale was evaluated analyzing its correlation with the SRQ-20 scale, which evaluates a different but related construct of psychological disturbance, and the significant scores obtained varied between 0.31 e 0.49. CONCLUSION: The FBIS-BR scale has good criterion and construct validity indicators to evaluate family burden of caregivers of psychiatric patients. This scale therefore can be used in mental health services, to evaluate the difficulties and needs presented by the family and to elaborated new support and orientation interventions.
