ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Female sexual dysfunction, which can occur during any stage of a normal sexual activity, is a serious condition for individuals and couples. The present study aimed to determine the prevalence and predictive factors of female sexual dysfunction in women referred to health centers in Ilam, the Western Iran, in 2014. METHODS: In the present cross-sectional study, 444 women who attended health centers in Ilam were enrolled from May to September 2014. Participants were selected according to the simple random sampling method. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to predict the risk factors of female sexual dysfunction. Diffe rences with an alpha error of 0.05 were regarded as statistically significant. RESULTS: Overall, 75.9% of the study population exhibited sexual dysfunction. Univariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that there was a significant association between female sexual dysfunction and age, menarche age, gravidity, parity, and education (P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that, menarche age (odds ratio, 1.26), education level (odds ratio, 1.71), and gravida (odds ratio, 1.59) were independent predictive variables for female sexual dysfunction. CONCLUSION: The majority of Iranian women suffer from sexual dysfunction. A lack of awareness of Iranian women's sexual pleasure and formal training on sexual function and its influencing factors, such as menarche age, gravida, and level of education, may lead to a high prevalence of female sexual dysfunction.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore influence of telmisartan on sexual function in male patients with hypertension. Methods: A total of 150 male patients with hypertension were enrolled and randomly divided into telmisartan group (n=75) and benazepril control group (n=75). Blood pressure, international index of erectile function (IIEF) and quality of sex were observed and compared between two groups. Results: After treatment, there was significant decrease in blood pressure in both groups (P0.05); compared with benazepril control group, there were significant increase in IIEF score [(11.28±1.32) scores vs. (19.48±2.49) scores], sex life frequency [(2.09±0.22) times/month vs. (6.31±0.85) times/month] and erectile proportion (62.7% vs. 82.7%), P<0.05 all in telmisartan group; Erectile function (was divided into normal, mild disability, moderate disability and severe disability, χ2=6.322, P=0.0412) and subjective sexual desire (was divided into strong, middle and weak, χ2=7.493, P=0.0326) of telmisartan group were also significantly better than those of benazepril control group. Conclusion: Telmisartan can improve sexual function and quality of sex life based on guaranteed antihypertensive effect.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the impact of surgical treatment of stress urinary incontinence on the sexual function of women and to identify whether such treatment can improve their sexual function and overall quality of life. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 64 heterosexual women with such indication were studied using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire, modified by introducing one question to evaluate the impact of urine loss. This was applied preoperatively and six months after surgery. RESULT: Among these 64 patients, 60.94 percent had regular sexual activity, while 39.06 percent did not. Among sexually active patients, 59 percent had urine loss during sexual intercourse and, of these, 87 percent had urine losses in half or more of sexual relations. There were no statistically significant differences in assessments of desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction and pain, or in totaling the scores, between the preoperative period and six months after surgical treatment. However, the scores for urine losses during sexual intercourse were significantly better after the operation. CONCLUSIONS: Analysis of the results allowed the following conclusions to be reached: Urine lost during sexual activity was frequent among patients with stress urinary incontinence. Suburethral support surgery did not jeopardize sexual activity. Patients cured of stress urinary incontinence did not present improvement in sexual function.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo evaluate the effect on postoperative urinary and sexual function of radical resection with pelvic autonomic nerve preservation for female rectal cancer patients.MethodsPostoperative sex and urination disorders were compared between groups of pelvic autonomic nerve preservation and conventional procedure in 120 female cases of middle-lower rectal carcinoma undergoing radical resection. ResultsThe venery decline、sexual climax slip、vagina wetness degree slip and the coition pain rate were 12.5%、10.5%、8.33%、4.15% in autonomic nerve preservation group and 54.1%、45.9%、41.7%、37.5% in control group, respectively(all P0.05).ConclusionPelvic autonomic nerve preservation is effective to reduce postoperative sex and urination disorders in female rectal cancer cases undergoing radical resection though it does not seem to benift cases receiving posterior pelvic exenteration.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the effect on postoperative urinary and sexual function of the radical operation with autonomic nerve preserving for mid low rectal cancer.[WT5”HZ]Method [WT5”BZ]Radical operation with autonomic nerve preserving was performed on 188 cases of rectal cancer. Nerves were fully preserved in 98 cases of Dukes A stage, one or both side nerves preserved in 78 cases of stage B, only S 3,4 nerve preserved in 12 cases of stage C.[WT5”HZ]Result [WT5”BZ]The postoperative voluntary micturition developed at 8 5 days for Dukes A; 9 0 days for stage B; and 16 8 days for stage C. Erection and ejaculation remained in Dukes A, in 96% and 100%;stage B, in 47 4% and 50%;stage C, in 0 and 0. The local recurrence after the operation accounted for 12 8%(24/188), among them Dukes A,B,C were 4 1%,21 9%, and 33 3% respectively. The 5 year survival rate were 77 6%,52 6% and 33 3% respectively.[WT5”HZ]Conclusion [WT5”BZ]The radical operation with autonomic nerve preserving for rectal cancer effects a better life quality not at the expense of local recurrence and reduction of 5 year survival rate.
