ABSTRACT

Abstract Objective: the research was oriented to investigate the correlation between some executive functions (inhibitory control, risk-benefit calculation, cognitive flexibility, the planning ability, and decision making) and the general, dyadic and solitary sexual desire, sexual desire inhibition and disposition to sexual fantasies in a 17-to-30-year-old people sample. Method: An observational cross-sectional study in a purposive sample of 64 young college students, aged between17 and -30, who were in a couple relationship at the time of the study and gave their consent for their participation in the research. The participants completed the Neuropsychological Battery of Executive Functions and Frontal Lobes tasks (BANFE for its abbreviation in Spanish): Stroop, card games, card classification and Hanoi Tower, and it was administered the Inhibited Sexual Desire Test, the Sexual Desire Inventory (SDI-2) and the Scale of Attitude Towards Sexual Fantasies. Results: The results indicate a correlation between the executive functions and sexual desire; it was found a correlation between total and dyadic sexual desire and disposition towards sexual fantasies with inhibitory control; and the inhibited sexual desire was correlated to planning ability and inhibitory control. Discussion: Although the study presents some methodological limitations (size of the sample and need of a more rigorous validation of instruments in the Colombian population), the results confirm previous research findings, allowing to formulate new hypotheses in the field of sexuality and neurosciences. The study findings draw attention to the educational implications aimed to develop the executive functions in adolescents and young people to prevent risky sexual behavior.

ABSTRACT

Background: The topic of dark personality traits and the emotional construct of schadenfreude have attained the spotlight over the last decade and gained popularity in terms of understanding their characteristics, behaviours and mindset. Sexual fantasies have also garnered relating interest, and a bridge between these constructs hypothetically began to take form. Methodology: In line with prior research and ideations, this study aimed to establish a meaningful and strong correlation between the constructs of the Dark Tetrad personality traits, schadenfreude and the types of sexual fantasies, while also finding significant predictors of sexual fantasies. It also attempts to add to the lack of literature on gender differentiations between such dark traits and fantasies and put an evolutionary outlook in the same. Results: The data was obtained from 124 young adults (Females = 64, Males = 60) using standardised measures of The Short Dark Triad Scale, The Short Sadistic Impulse Scale, The Wilson Sex Fantasy Questionnaire, and 3 scenarios to assess Schadenfreude. Conclusion: The study provides a major insight into how dark personality traits, emotions and fantasies manifest in subclinical populations with accounted gender differentiation, and puts forth a case of the vastness and depth of the dark tetrad and schadenfreude, accounting for their influential roles in manifesting specific sexual fantasies.

ABSTRACT

Assuming that the categories used to define "social problems" affect the ways those are understood and administered, this paper analyzes how the combat against sexual violence against children has mobilized the notion of "pedophilia," with focus on child pornography on the internet. The hypothesis is that this "anti-pedophilia crusade" blurs the boundaries between sexual acts and fantasies, producing a political focus shift from the inequality of power to the dangers related to sexual perversion. The empirical sources of this project are the legislative debates within the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on Pedophilia, in the Brazilian Federal Senate; and one of the police inquiries accessed during ethnographic fieldwork at the Federal Police Department. Finally, some effects of the "anti-pedophilia crusade" are discussed.

ABSTRACT

Sex guilt is a determinant of sexual behavior. The goal of the present study was to analyze sex guilt in a Salvadorian sample of 594 young with ages ranging from 14 to 18 years, selected through a non-random process, in order to assess the influence of socio-demographic and sexual attitudinal variables on it. Participants filled in the Revised Mosher Guilt Inventory, the Sexual Opinion Survey, the Hurlbert Index of Sexual Fantasy, and the Negative Attitudes toward Masturbation Inventory. Results of multiple regression analysis suggested that sex guilt is determined, among other things, by attitudes towards sexual fantasy, erotophilia, negative attitudes toward masturbation, and sexual experience, in this order, being the attitudinal variables more important than the socio-demographic variables. Results of studies like this are useful to analyze the role of sex guilt in human sexuality and to develop sexual education programs for adolescents.
