This new communication trend and the natural desire to explore their sexuality, considering that this study was conducted with middle-school adolescents, have led teenagers to become interested in a new way of practicing their sexuality through the Internet and social media. Objective: To determine factors associated with the practice of online sexual risk behaviors in school-aged adolescents. Material and methods: Quantitative, descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study that included 244 high school students between 15 and 17 years of age in Bogotá. The variables of this study were examined, and the instrument for sexual risk behaviors in virtual social media was validated and applied using a self-administered form. Conclusion: The frequency of online sexual practices was described, and the variables that increase the risk of engaging in sexualized behaviors on the Internet were determined. In this study, biological sex, school grade, play sexualized virtual games among other variables, considerably increased the risk of engaging in sexualized behaviors, while some variables did not show an association, such as socioeconomic status, among others. Finally, the variables that become protective factors were determined.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to identify and compare sexual risk behavior and its relationship to gender, age and religion. The study included 596 adults from the general population: ages ranged from 18 to 73 years (M = 27.31 SD = 9.37), 59.2% were female, 76.2% had a single marital status and 83.2% declared themselves as heterosexual. Questionnaires on sociodemographic data and sexual behavior were used as the instrument. For data analysis the statistical package SPSS version 22 was used. It was found that sexual relations under the influence of psychoactive substances were prevalent among men. With regard to differences in sexual behavior of age groups, the study found that the majority of people in the general population aged 18-41 had an active sex life. It is expected that these data may support future health interventions to prevent sexually transmitted diseases.

ABSTRACT

The article examines the adherence of citizens to the quick test for HIV in the Counseling and Early Detection of HIV/AIDS Center (CAD), in the city of Bragança (Northeast Portugal). Specifically, it seeks to examine the role of a fast diagnosis in the fight against AIDS within the Portuguese public health system, to understand the circumstances underlying the demand for the service and to interpret the perceptions and practices of CAD users. In terms of methodology, it was a case study based on ethnographic inquiry, linking direct observation, informal conversations and interviews, which was associated with extensive documental and statistic research. The results obtained allow us to state that the quick test gave a very positive contribution to the fight against HIV/AIDS infection, facilitating citizen access to knowledge of their serological status almost instantly and improving their follow-up by health technicians. The so-called “dissipation of uncertainty”, following sexual risk behavior, is the main reason that leads users to perform a quick test...

ABSTRACT

Aims: This study examined the extent to which youth who live on the streets and in the slums of Kampala experience more HIV risky behaviors than representative national and urban school-attending youth. Place and Duration of Study: Analyses were based on three cross-sectional surveys: 1. the Kampala Youth Survey (service-seeking youth living in the slums; conducted in 2011; N=457); 2. The Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS; nationally representative sample of school-attending youth, conducted in 2003; N=3,215); 3. The Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS; urban representative sample of school-attending youth, conducted in 2003; N=1,709). Methodology: Analyses restricted to youth between ages 14-17 years assessed the differences in prevalence of sexual intercourse, age of sexual initiation, number of partners, and condom use among youth in the three surveys examined. A z-test was used to test the significance of difference in proportions. The prevalence reported in the Kampala Youth Survey was compared to the other two surveys of school-attending youth. Results: The lifetime prevalence of reporting sexual intercourse was statistically significantly higher (49%) among participants in the Kampala survey compared to the youth in the GSHS National (31%) and GSHS Urban (29%) surveys. Moreover, girls in the Kampala survey reported significantly higher prevalence of sexual intercourse (49%) compared to girls in the GSHS National (23%) and GSHS Urban (22%) surveys. In terms of condom use, the youth in the Kampala survey reported using condoms less in the past year (34%) compared to the youth in the GSHS National (64%) and the GSHS Urban (60%) who reported on condom use at the time of last sexual intercourse. Conclusion: The youth in the Kampala survey reported higher prevalence of sexual intercourse, having fewer sexual partners, and lower condom use compared to their nationally representative school-attending peers. Prevention strategies that seek to increase condom use specifically appear warranted.

ABSTRACT

Based on a probability sample of 466 Mexican college students, we want to find out if there is a relationship between psychological distress and risky behavior (drug-consuming, sexual behavior or both) between men and women. Results show that psychological distress presents more differences with women who consume drugs, tobacco and alcohol and who present behaviors which combine sex and alcohol more than men. Men with occasional sexual activity preset more distress than those who don't show this behavior. To begin, we explore the factorial structure of SCL-90-R observing the same results of those obtained by other researchers. It seems that the factor analysis doesn't support the structure proposed by the authors of the instrument.
