ABSTRACT
RESUMEN El enfrentamiento a la COVID-19 constituye un desafío para los profesionales de la salud en Cuba esencialmente con los cuidados a la población. El trabajo tiene como objetivo describir el desempeño social del especialista en Medicina General Integral en el enfrentamiento a la COVID-19. Se realizó un estudio que evidenció el desempeño social de este especialista en el enfrentamiento epidemiológico a la COVID-19.
ABSTRACT The confrontation with COVID-19 constitutes a challenge for health professionals in Cuba, essentially with care for the population. The objective of the work is to describe the social performance of the specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine in the confrontation with COVID-19. A study was carried out that showed the social performance of this specialist in the epidemiological confrontation with COVID-19.

El desarrollo educacional y científico de Cuba fue consecuencia de una decisión política del gobierno, vía indispensable para lograr desarrollo en salud y por tanto el desarrollo social en un país socialista, aspecto que se aborda en el presente estudio a través de la relación existente entre desarrollo social y modelo de formación del especialista en Medicina General Integral en Cuba. En Cuba el desarrollo del hombre constituye el centro del desarrollo social. La idea del Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro Ruz de la creación del especialista de Medicina General Integral y el médico de familia, significa igualdad de oportunidades para el acceso a la atención en salud de toda la población. Se concluye que el modelo del especialista en Medicina General Integral constituye un resultado en la práctica médica del vínculo indisoluble que existe entre las políticas estatales y las políticas de salud de la población
Cuban scientific and educational development was the consequence of a political decision of the government, indispensable way to achieve health development and social development in a socialist country, aspect that is dealt with in the present study through the relation existing between Social development and the model for the formation of the specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine in Cuba. In our country, the development of the human being constitutes the main social development. The idea of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz about the creation of the specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine and the family Doctor means equal opportunities to the access of health attention for the whole population. It is concluded that the model of the specialist in General Comprehensive Medicine is a result, in the medical practice, of the indissoluble link existing between state politics and population health politics
