ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo investigate the impact of posture and sports experience on distance perception in Paralympic athletes with lower limbs disabilities. MethodsFrom May to August, 2019, athletes were selected from the wheelchair racing team (n = 19) and the wheelchair fencing team (n = 16) in Shanghai, China. The athletes were tested the relative distance perception and absolute distance perception using the successive equal-appearing distance and blind walking tasks. ResultsThe interaction effects between sport and posture (F = 4.118, P < 0.05), sports events and distance judgment (F = 8.913, P < 0.01), and posture and distance judgment (F = 11.894, P < 0.01) were significant; while the main effects of sport (F = 7.467, P < 0.01) and posture (F = 11.918, P < 0.01) were significant; the relative distance judgment accuracy was better in the athletes of wheelchair fencing than in those of wheelchair racing, and in standing posture than those in sitting posture. ConclusionThe relative distance judgment accuracy is better for the Paralympic athletes standing and playing wheelchair fencers. There was no significant difference in the accuracy of absolute distance judgment between the different postures and the different sports.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to analyze the level of satisfaction of the Parana futsal athletes versus time of experience in the sport. Study participants were 75 indoor soccer players, male, mean age 25.31 years (± 5.21 years), Paraná five teams participating in the National Futsal League 2013. Survey instruments were used to record the identification of athletes and Athlete Satisfaction Questionnaire. For data analysis, nonparametric Friedman and Mann-Whitney U were used, adopting p <0.05. High levels of satisfaction of the athletes were checked; the dimension of "Personal Dedication" was the most significant (p <0.05). The dimensions of "Training and Instruction" and "Ethical" were also highlighted by the athletes (p <0.05). Lower satisfaction levels were found in the dimensions of "Team Performance", "Ability Utilization" and "Budget" (p <0.05). The less experienced athletes (≤ 7 years of practice) were more satisfied when compared to very experienced athletes (≥ 8 years of practice) in the dimensions of "Team Performance", "Team Integration" and "Budget" (p <0.05). We conclude that the length of experience in sports is an intervening element in the satisfaction level of indoor soccer, showing that the longer the duration of practice, the greater the demands on issues related to the team.(AU)

ABSTRACT

This work compares the perceptions of two groups of athletes (novice and experienced athletes) about the leadership styles of their coaches, compatibility with the coach and satisfaction with leadership. The sample included 91 male athletes of a handball team; 59 were youth sport athletes (novice) and 32 were adult sport athletes (experienced). We applied the following measurements: Demographic Questionnaire, Multidimensional Scale of Leadership in Sports, Coach-Athlete Compatibility, and Athlete Satisfaction Questionnaire. The results showed that: novice athletes evaluated more positively the leadership styles, assumed more compatibility with the coach, and demonstrated more satisfaction with leadership. Therefore, leadership scales explained 32 percent of the variance related with Coach-Athlete Compatibility in novice athletes and 43 percent in experienced athletes.
