ABSTRACT

Objective To systematically search the related literature of dengue syndrome in recent years, so as to understand the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome distribution of dengue fever. Methods China biomedical database, CNKI, VIP and Wanfang database were searched. The epidemiological studies on the TCM syndrome of dengue fever were enrolled. The first author of this study, sample size, diagnostic criteria and the syndrome differentiation were collected. SPSS 21.0 software was used to carry out frequency statistics, describe the distribution of common clinical syndromes of dengue fever, and count the number and percentage of patients corresponding to each syndrome type. Results A total of 12 articles were enrolled, including 2 639 patients. The number of male patients were much more than the females. Most of the patients came from Guangdong, mostly after the outbreak of dengue fever in Guangdong in 2014.The most common TCM syndrome types include both the defense and Qi phases (25.20%), damp heat repression (20.69%), blood stasis and toxin (16.37%), excess of Qi and heat (12.24%), vigorous heat at qi-blood phase (10.19%). Conclusions The main pathogenic factors of dengue fever are heat, humidity and toxicity. The most common syndromes are both the defense and Qi phases, damp heat repression and blood stasis and toxin.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the associations of the mutation status of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) with the factors including gender, age, smoking status, family history and histological type in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: From February 2008 to May 2012, 538 consecutive NSCLC patients went through the clinical testing for EGFR mutations in Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital were included in this study. Amplification refractory mutation system (ARMS) method was used to detect EGFR mutation status. The relationships between EGFR mutation and potential related factors were evaluated by using Logistic regression model. Results: The activating mutation of EGFR was found in 220 patients. EGFR mutation was more frequently detected in females (P < 0.001), patients with adenocarcinoma (P < 0.001), never-smokers (P < 0.001) and patients with family history of cancer (P = 0.031). Multivariate analysis revealed that pathologic type [odds ratio (OR) = 0.035)], smoking status (OR = 0.005) and family history of cancer (OR = 0.027) were independent predictive factors of EGFR mutation. Conclusion: The factors of pathologic type, smoking status and family history of cancer are independent predictive factors of EGFR mutation. Copyright © 2014 by TUMOR.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the calculation and report of detection index and the statistics analysis of group comparison in high risk group,a problem of medical science study. Methods Relevant literature was consulted so that the methods could be listed of the detection index and the current statistic analysis of group comparison in high risk group. Results The current report about detection ratio and the statistics analysis of group comparison in high risk group proved to be mistaken, and the statistics analysis of group comparison was not the comparison of detection ratios in high risk group. Conclusions It is necessary to calculate and report the detection ratio when expressing the detection index. The statistics difference should be tested about constituent ratio in the group comparison, after excluding patient group. At the same time, some explanation should be given by the author in the composition.

ABSTRACT

Randomized controlled trial(RCT),considered as the strongest evidence-based method in clinical trial, can provide first-hand scientific evidence for clinical practice and instruct clinicians to make correct decisions in practice. This article introduces the principles for RCT designing, analyzes the common problems concerning RCT in clinical practice and the common mistakes made in RCT statistical methods. It is concluded that application of RCT method and correct statistical methods are of great importance in clinical medical research.
