ABSTRACT

Approximately 25-40% of the total schwannomas, are head and neck Schwannomas, they may originate from nerve sheath of the peripheral, cranial or autonomic nerves. We report a case of Schwannoma of right side Submandibular region in a 25 year old female with no significant dental, personal or medical history. Schwannomas are slowly progressive benign lesions, the patient presents with a mass or swelling that is growing in size slowly. The lesions are usually painless non-tender, smooth swelling beneath the mucosa with no changes in the overlying skin. An Ultrasound revealed well circumscribed hypoechoic solid lesion with internal vascularity. The lesion on T1 weighted MRI images exhibits homogenous isointensity and on T2 weighted MRI images exhibits heterogenous hyperintensity, on contrast enhanced T1 MRI images it exhibits salt and pepper type of enhancement. The diagnosis of Schwannoma is confirmed histopathologically by showing the presence of Antoni type A cells and Antoni type B cells, nuclear palisading, whirling of cells and Verocay bodies. This tumor may have originated from an autonomic nerve of the submandibular gland.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Human Bocavirus (HBoV) has been identified from feces and respiratory samples from cases of both acute gastroenteritis and respiratory illness as well as in asymptomatic individuals. The aim of this study was to detect and characterize HBoV from fecal samples collected from hospitalized children aged less than five years old with no symptoms of respiratory tract infection (RTI) or acute gastroenteritis (AGE). The study involved 119 children and one fecal sample was collected from each participant between 2014 and 2015. HBoV was detected using Nested-PCR, and the viral type identified by genomic sequencing. HBoV-4 was identified from one sample obtained from a hospitalized child with soft tissue tumor of the submandibular region. This is the first report of HBoV-4 identification in Brazil, but we consider that this type may be circulating in the country similar to the other types and new investigations are necessary.

ABSTRACT

Hypoglossal schwannomas usually develop in the intracranial portion of the brain. The incidence of hypoglossal schwannomas of the submandibular region is extremely rare. Here we report a case of schwannoma arising from the extracranial hypoglossal nerve in the left submandibular region.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To study the effect of a potent angiogenic in hi bitor TNP-470 on the growth of sarcoma. Methods:1?10 6 sarcom a S-180 cells 0.1 ml were inoculated into submandibular region in each of 40 K M mice. The mice were divided into control and treatment groups with 10 in each group. Treatment was started 8 hours after inoculation. TNP-40 at 10 mg/kg, 30 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg was given subcutaneously every other day in the 3 treatment groups, total 6 times. On the 12th day, the mice were sacrificed, tumor and mice were weighted. Apoptosis of tumor cells was observed by TUNEL method and transmi ssion microscope. Express of VEGF, bFGF were detected by immunohistochemical sta ining. Results:Sarcoma was developed in all of the mice. The sa rcoma cells invaded deep into adjacent organs and tissues such as muscle, subman dibular gland, parotid and facial nerve. 10 mg/kg, 30 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg TNP- 470 inhibited the growth of the tumor by 27.62%,63.81% and 85.71% respective ly, increased the apoptosis cell number by 54.46%,156.69% and 432.48% respect ively (P
