ABSTRACT

Background: An association between migraine and Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) has been proposed due to shared dopaminergic dysfunction. Both have substantial effects on the quality of life. Identifying co morbidities of migraine helps in optimizing patient management. Objectives To study the prevalence of RLS in patients of migraine without aura, and associated co morbidities of RLS.Methods: This was a hospital based prospective observational study. All patients diagnosed as Migraine without aura as per ICHD-3 criteria completed the questions regarding migraine headache, Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS) questionnaire, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and International RLS Study Group (IRLSSG) Rating Scale. RLS was diagnosed using the IRLSSG criteria. Serological investigations were done to look for secondary causes of RLS.Results: Out of 200 consecutive patients of migraine without aura were included in the study over a period of 18 months. Frequency of RLS was 13.5% (n=27). All patients had primary RLS. Mean PSQI score was higher in the patients of migraine without aura with RLS than in non RLS patients of migraine without aura (3.30±2.66 vs 2.24±2.03 p≤0.0168). Poor sleep quality, anxiety, depression was found in 9%, 8% and 2.5% respectively in patients of migraine without aura. Conclusions: An association between migraine without aura and RLS was demonstrated. Migraine without aura was associated with increased frequency of poor sleep quality, anxiety and depression.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a group of different risk factors that raises the chances of develop several health problems such, as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. There are few cases in literature of studies that specifically address the use of pharmaceutical care in MetS. The aim of study was to evaluate the effectiveness of home pharmaceutical interventions in patients with this syndrome. The randomized clinical trial was conducted in subjects with diagnosis of MetS treated in a basic unit of health from Cuité, Paraíba. The patients were randomized in a 1:1 ratio to two groups: intervention (IG) and control (CG). The IG received monthly individual pharmaceutical interventions, while the CG did not. The effectiveness of the intervention protocol was measured after six months, comparing the hemodynamic values, anthropometric, biochemistry, cardiovascular risk, medication adherence, drug related problems (DRP) and quality of life. The sample consisted of 63 individuals (33 IG and 30 CG) and older than 60 years. The majority of pharmaceutical interventions were educational and/or behavioral. In the intervention group, significant differences were observed in the parameters systolic and diastolic blood pressure, triglycerides, medication adherence and DRP. The pharmaceutical interventions at home were effective in improving medication adherence, decreasing DRPs and helping to control components of the metabolic syndrome.

ABSTRACT

Objective To further discuss the characteristic of diabetic nephropahty, analyze its cause and pathogenesis, and make clear the relation between symptoms and syndrome, and to provide proof for prevention and therapy of this disease. Methods Records of 200 diabetic nephropathy patients treated clinically were collected and SPSS(Statistical Package for Social Science)12.0 was applied for analyzing.According to different conditions of the renal function,We divide the cases into two groups to study the relations between symptoms and syndrome. Results 1.The common symptoms of diabetic nephropathy are heavy body and drowsiness(74%),tired and debilitation(70%),and deficient breath and unwilling to speak(64%).2.The main syndromes of diabetic nephropathy are syndrome of deficiency of Qi、syndrome of yin asthenia, syndrome of dampness-heat blocking in the middle, and syndrome of blood stasis. Conclusion According to the research, the highest frequent appearing syndromes of deficiency were syndrome of Qi deficiency and syndrome of Yin deficiency, while the syndrome of dampness-heat blocking in the middle ranked No.1 in sthema syndromes and then caine the syndrome of blood stasis. However, the syndrome of blood stasis was the most severe, and this syndrome existed from the beginning to the end of this disease.

ABSTRACT

This article overviews researches on acute myocardial infarction syndrome treated with TCM.We claim that the basic pathology of this disease should be futiber explored and essential factors for syndrome difierentiation should be studied. We also put forward quantitative diagnosis should be carried out to the essential factors and experimental indexes.

ABSTRACT

To summarize current pathogenesis theories of diabetic nephropathy, focusing on kidney theory, spleen theory, collateral disease theory, toxicity injuring kidney meridian collaterals theory and micro-zhengjia theory. As for the study development, new research idea has been put forwards which highlights basic TCM syndrome study, clinical trial and experimental study,as it will improve the research works in this field.
