ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss the correlation between the distribution of TCM constitutional types and carotid artery intima-media thickness (CIMT) in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism; To select the biased constitution type with high risk factors for atherosclerosis; To provide theoretical basis for preventing this disease from the perspective of TCM physique. Methods Totally 120 patients with subclinical hypothyroidism and 50 cases of normal healthy subjects were selected. TCM constitutional types of two groups were distinguished by KY3H TCM physique recognition software. CIMT was determined, and the correlation between the distribution of TCM constitutional types and CIMT in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism was analyzed. Results In 120 cases of subclinical hypothyroidism, there were 3 cases of gentleness type (2.50%), 30 cases of qi-depression type (25.00%), 28 cases of qi-deficiency type (23.33%), 25 cases of yang-deficiency type (20.83%), 13 cases of phlegm-damp type (10.84%), 9 cases of yin-deficiency type (7.50%), 6 cases of blood stasis type (5.00%), 5 cases of dampness heat type (4.17%), 1 case of particular type (0.83%). The main TCM constitutional types of subclinical hypothyroidism were qi-depression type, qi-deficiency type, yang-deficiency type and phlegm-damp type. The morbidity of atherosclerosis in patients with qi-depression type and qi-deficiency type were higher than other constitutional types. Conclusion The main TCM constitutional types of subclinical hypothyroidism were qi-depression type, qi-deficiency type, yang-deficiency type and phlegm-damp type.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the correlation between TOP2A gene expression and TCM constitutional types of patients with triple-negative breast cancer. Methods The questionnaire for constitution of Chinese medicine was used to identify the TCM constitutional types of 71 patients with triple-negative breast cancer and TOP2A gene alterations were quantified by real-time PCR. 2-ΔΔCt was used to analyze the expressions of each group. SPSS17.0 was employed to analyze the correlation between TOP2A gene amplification and TCM constitutional types. Results Totally 71 patients were divided into general type (0 case), Qi deficiency type (18 cases), Yang deficiency type (10 cases), Yin deficiency type (12 cases), Qi stagnancy type (7 cases), blood stasis type (10 cases), phlegm wet calculus type (8 cases), damp-heat type (6 cases), and special type (0 case). All of them were biased constitutional types, of which Qi deficiency constitution (25.35%), Yin deficiency constitution (16.90%), blood stasis constitution (14.08%) took the majority. TOP2A gene amplification was negative correlated with each constitutional type (P<0.05).Conclusion Biased constitutional types were the main types of TCM constitutional type of patients with triple-negative breast cancer. The main three biased constitutional types of triple-negative breast cancer were Qi deficiency constitution, Yin deficiency constitution and blood stasis constitution. TOP2A gene expression in patients with triple-negative breast cancer was normal or less expressed, which predicted low chemotherapy sensitivity and poor prognosis.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the relationship between facial skin conditions and TCM constitutional types; To provide new means and methods for guidance of skin conservation and skin health improvement from the aspect of constitutional types. Methods Totally 2241 female volunteers in nine provincial capital cities and municipalities participated in this research, and were investigated by web questionnaire. Constitutional types were determined according to the“Classification and Judgment of TCM Constitutional Types”standard issued by China Association of Chinese Medicine. Skin color, glossiness, delicate degree, moistness, firmness, resilience, uniformity and other indicators were scored. Skin conditions were classified into three groups:1-3 score group, 4-6 score group, and 7-9 score group, and the constitutional differences among each group were compared. Results Yang-deficiency and mild constitutional types accounted for the largest proportion. Yellowish skin color accounted for the largest proportion, and the next were white, dark and reddish. Yang-deficiency constitutional type accounted for the largest proportion in 1-3 score group, and the second was Qi-stagnation; Yang-deficiency and mild constitutional types accounted for the largest proportion in 4-6 score group; mild constitutional type accounted for the largest proportion in 7-9 score group. Conclusion People with mild constitutional type got highest score in every skin index, while biased constitutional types influenced the score in varied degrees. The constitutional types which influenced Chinese urban females’ facial skin index more were Yang-deficiency and Qi-stagnation constitutional types.
