ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the effects of taurine-zinc(TZC) on blood lead content and blood-brain barrier(BBB) permeability of growing rats exposed to lead. Methods Male SD rats aged 3 weeks were randomly divided into four groups(8 in each group):control group, lead exposure group, dimercaptosuccinic acid(DMSA) group and TZC group. The exposure group treated with 0.12% lead acetate(0.2 ml/100 g body weight) by intraperitoneal injection,DMSA group and TZC group were treated with the same dose of lead acetate but were respectively supplemented with 5 mg/ml DMSA(2 ml/100 g body weight) by ig and 0.46 g/L TZC solution through drinking.Three weeks later, blood lead content was measured by atomic absorption spectroscopy(AAS) and changes of BBB permeability were observed using lanthanum nitrate tracer method. Results Compared with the lead exposure group, the blood lead level in TZC group and DMSA group was significantly reduced(P

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the effects of zinc supplementation on the function of brain after sleep deprivation(SD).Methods:Rats SD model was made by the “Flower Pot" technique.Three days later, the rats received Y-labyrinth test to test the function of learning and memory.NADPH-d histochemistry and ABC immunohistochemistry were applied to exam the activity of NOS and the levels of protein expression of nNOS in hippocampus of rats. Results:Compared with the normal group,Learning times of rats in Y-labyrinth test of the SD group increased(89.3?25.3 /67.1?29.3,t=1.81,P0.05).Compared with the SD group,in TZC supplementation group, the levels of NOS in sub-area of hippocampus(CA_1:27.2?2.8;CA_3:15.3?1.6;DG:21.8?1.9,P0.05).Conclusions:TZC supplementation can improve learning and memory function of rats, and the mechanisms might be related to increased level of NOS and the protein expression of nNOS in hippocampus of animals.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the adverse effect of chronic fluorosis on the testicular structure of rats testis and the antagonism of taurine-zinc. Methods 30 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 5 groups (6 in each) and treated with fluoride and taurine-zinc through drinking water: control, low fluorine (LF, 100 mg NaF/L), high fluorine (HF, 200 mg NaF/L), low fluorine plus Zn(LF+Zn), high fluorine plus Zn (HF+Zn). After 5 months of fluoride treated, the rats in LF+Zn and HF+Zn groups were given taurine-zinc (0.34 g/L) by added in the drinking water for another month. Six months later, the testicle structure in all groups was examined under the microscope. Results In LF group, the loosened testicular gland and interstitial edema were seen. In HF group, primary spermatocyte became smaller and sperm head disappeared. However, in LF+Zn and HF+Zn groups there were no so significant damages, the changes were similar to normal testis. Conclusion Chronic fluorosis can cause testis damage and taurine-zinc presents a obvious antagonism in rats.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the antagonism of taurine-zinc coordination compound (TZC) to the adverse effect of mercury (Hg) on the neurons in the cerebral cortex. Methods 32 male Wistar rats aged 21days were randomly divided into 4 groups, one control group (fed on distilled water), three experimental groups fed on HgCl2 (0.06 g/L), HgCl2+0.23 g/L TZC and HgCl2+0.46 g/L TZC respectively, treated for one month. The NOS activity in the cerebral cortex neurons was determined by NADPH-d histochemistry. Results NADPH-d positive neurons increased in HgCl2 group (P
