ABSTRACT

This work proposes a clinic for bruxism, after accounting for the causes that constitute it from its physiology. Bruxism is produced by the impediment of discharge - for various reasons unique to each patient - of the aggressive energy that the body has either to defend itself or to attack. As this energy is not exclusively physiological but also emotional, doing gymnastics or sports does not solve the problem, at the same time that the clinic to undertake must contemplate working in both aspects. Aggressiveness -vital energy necessary for daily living- is differtent from violence, taking in account developments from Winnicott, Perls and Lorenz. Although the causes that prevent its discharge are diverse, they share the same symptomatology. That is why a self-help group that does not contemplate the singular clinic is not useful, being the group resource a suitable modality of work. The appropriate clinic for the cure of bruxism should take into account: the awareness and the change of habitual behavioral modalities in regard to aggression -as well as the possibility of historicizing them-, together with a work that enables the effective corporal and affective discharge of aggressive energies, carried out in a modality of group work (AU)

ABSTRACT

Reading job applications sent to any company and, particularly, those related to the Veterinary profession, it becomes clear that, apart from the required specific technical and scientific expertise, applicants should also have a proactive spirit, leadership abilities and the capacity to work in a team, among other important social skills. Nowadays, it's not enough having "wise" knowledge or "technical" expertise. Subjects should also have the ability to communicate effectively, demonstrate they can rely upon themselves and others, be sympathetic and empathetic and capable of integrating successfully in new work teams. In the official syllabus of the Veterinary Medicine career in Argentina, the ability to work in teams is not part of the specific content that the students have to learn. The Directed Studies Groups (DSG), are groups of students of different levels of the graduate course, that motivated by a common topic embark on tasks to deepen their knowledge on specific subjects, including research and / or extension. For them, learning to work in a team means learning to communicate effectively, to be supportive, to commit to the achievement of common goals, skills that should not be neglected and that are fundamental to speak of a professional with a comprehensive education.

ABSTRACT

Peer assessment has been shown to complement both formative and summative evaluations in education and used in some medical programmes. The study was aimed to find correlation between group work peer assessment score and final examination mark among four batches of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) first year MBBS students. Method: A set of four questions was constructed and tested to assess students’ overall role in their group research project. The difference in distribution according to years was tested by using one-way ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis, depending on the data distribution. Pearson correlation coefficient test was done to test the linear association between peer score and final examination mark. Partial correlation test was used to adjust the correlation for four academic years. Results: From the analysed data of 502 students, there was moderate, significant positive correlation (0.366) between peer assessment score and the final examination mark (P < 0.001). Adjustment to the academic years resulted in correlation coefficient of 0.371. Conclusion: The results provide an important insight on the influence of peers’ perception in predicting the medical student academic performance.

ABSTRACT

AbstractThe multi-professional residence at the primary health care is part of a network of training in education and health in Brazil that has been expanded in the last decade. Training within health services aims to prepare professionals to work in the Health National System. This article examines how workers and residents experience educational processes in the Program of Integrated Health Residency: Primary Care in Public Health, developed in basic health units belonging, up to 2009, to the Murialdo Health School-Center, and linked to Rio Grande do Sul School of Public Health. This is a qualitative research whose methodological course has input into cultural studies in approach to post-modern ethnography. The fieldwork was conducted from March 2007 to April 2008 and empirical data included educational and administrative documents institutions, relevant legislation to the regulation of residency programs, reports of residents, direct observation of teams and interviews with health workers. To reflect on the limitations and possibilities of this training, the writings of Bauman about the cultural characteristics of "liquid modernity" were used, because the context was marked by tentativeness and uncertainty, which produce potentialities and vulnerabilities in the residency program.

ABSTRACT

Advances in knowledge related to team performance at work show that the characteristics of team members are important predictors. Amongst these, the image that the worker has as a professional can offer significant contributions to this field, especially when related to affective variables, such as team satisfaction. It is thought that this self-perception is associated with team satisfaction. To test this hypothesis, an empirical study was conducted using information collected from questionnaires answered by 373 employees working for technology companies. Data were analyzed based on the construction of hierarchical regression where the four factors of the self-concept scale were evaluated as predictors. Results show that the group of factors explains approximately 14 percent of the variance in satisfaction. Therefore, by understanding the perception that the worker has of himself, this allows us to comprehend a considerable degree of his satisfaction with teamwork.

ABSTRACT

The article focuses on team work within multiprofessional health meetings. It presents results of a research that intended to understand how workers experience the interrelationships, in the context of health care practices in infectious diseases in the hospitalization sector of a Research Institute. The theoretical and methodological references articulated contributions of Schwartz's Ergology and the National Policy of Humanization. The qualitative research used observation techniques and semi-structured interviews. The analysis of empirical material was based on the technique of content analysis in its thematic analysis. Among the main results, we found that workers want to find an effective way to work in teams, resulting in a comprehensive and humanizing health care, but a prevailing attitude of waiting for the subject of change, demonstrates the need to make the management they do of their own work process become visible, to encourage the protagonism of subjects and a management perspective in which all subjects can feel coresponsible for the direction of health care provided.
