ABSTRACT

Purpose: To investigate the clinical effect of sodium hyaluronate eye drops combined with tobramycin, dexamethasone, and pranoprofen eye drops in the treatment of dry eye after phacoemulsification. Methods: Medical records of 188 patients with dry eye after phacoemulsification, treated in our hospital from August 2020 to August 2021, were included and divided into groups based on the type of dry eye treatment. Patients in the control group (n = 90) were treated with tobramycin, dexamethasone, and pranoprofen eye drops. Patients in the test group (n = 98) were treated with sodium hyaluronate, tobramycin, dexamethasone, and pranoprofen eye drops. The tear secretion test (TST), film rupture time (BUT), corneal fluorescence staining (FS) score, levels of interleukin (IL)?6, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)?? before the treatment and at 1 month follow?up, the overall total effective rate and the number of completely cured cases were compared between the two groups. Multiple linear regression was used to calculate coefficients for predicting clinical variables. Ordinal logistic regression was used to compute coefficients and odds ratios for predicting effective scores. Results: The total effective rate in the observation group (99%) was significantly higher than that in the control group (80.00%). After the treatment, the TST and BUT indexes of the observation group were higher compared to the control group, and the FS score of the observation group was lower than that of the control group. TNF?? and IL?6 levels of the observation group were lower compared to the control group. Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that the differences in the effective rate and clinical variables between the two groups remained significant after adjusting for the effect of age. Conclusion: A combination of sodium hyaluronate, tobramycin, dexamethasone, and pranoprofen eye drops for the treatment of dry eye after phacoemulsification can improve the curative effect, reduce corneal fluorescein staining and inflammatory factor index levels compared to the treatment regimen lacking sodium hyaluronate eye drops.

ABSTRACT

@#AIM:To find out the pathogenesis of dry eye disease(DED)and the possible mechanisms of available effective treatments.<p>METHOD:Here we employed a non-targeted technology, ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry(UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS), to investigate metabolic characterizations for tear samples from 18 patients with DED upon drug or acupuncture treatment. <p>RESULTS:A total of 190 named metabolites were identified, which presented so far the broadest tear metabolome. Further analysis indicated a significantly distinct metabolomics profile among all patients, but very subtle metabolic differences upon drug or acupuncture treatment. On one hand, only six significantly changed metabolites were determined after drug treatment, five of which including inosine, monopalmitin, urate, propionylcarnitine, and nicotinamide were all increased and involved in inflammatory responses. On the other hand, merely four metabolites including alanine, serine, and homoserine were found to be significantly different. Further pathway analysis of those six and four significantly changed metabolites revealed that only one pathway, aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis was significantly influenced in acupuncture-treated patients, which were highly associated with the cause of the disease. The results here indicated acupuncture treatment may address the cause rather than the symptoms for dry eye disease, displaying partially better compared with drug treatment.<p>CONCLUSION: Collectively, this work extended our understanding on the key regulatory elements or pathways involved in the potential mechanisms of available effective treatments, and would be useful for providing novel potential targets and therapeutic strategies for DED.

ABSTRACT

@#AIM: To observe the clinical efficacy of Xiaoyao Powder combined with tobramycin dexamethasone in treating dry eye syndrome caused by Meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD). <p>METHODS: Totally 134 eyes of 106 dry eye patients with MGD in the First People's Hospital of Wolong District, Nanyang City from November 2015 to November 2017. They were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group, each with 53 cases(67 eyes). The two groups were all given hot compress massage, and other basic treatment. The control group was given tobramycin dexamethasone treatment, while the observation group was treated with Xiaoyao Powder on the basis of the control group. The clinical effect of two groups of patients, the symptoms of dry eye, corneal fluorescence staining(FL), the scale of quality of life for diseases with visual impairment(SQOL DVI), tear film break-up time(BUT)and the Schirmer test(SⅠT)were observed. <p>RESULTS: After treatment, the total effective rate of treatment in the observation group(86.6%)was significantly higher than that of the control group(67.2%). The symptoms of dry eye, corneal FL and SQOL DVI scores were significantly lower than those in the control group, and the values of BUT and SⅠT were significantly higher than those in the control group, the difference was statistically significant(<i>P</i><0.01). During the treatment period, the incidence of intraocular pressure elevation in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group, the difference was statistically significant(<i>P</i><0.05). <p>CONCLUSION: The Xiaoyao Powder combined with tobramycin dexamethasone in the treatment of MGD dry eye can significantly improve the curative effect and improve the prognosis of the patients.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To observe therapeutic efficacy and safety of tobramycin dexamethasone in the treatment of meibo-mian gland dysfunction(MGD). METHODS:108 MGD patients were randomly divided into control group(53 cases)and observa-tion group(55 cases). Control group was given eyelid cleaning with conventional physical cleaning method,at the same time,giv-en Doxycycline hydrochloride tablets 0.1 g orally after meal, twice a day. Based on control group, observation group was addition-ally given Tobramycin and dexamethasone eye ointment with length of 1.0-1.5 cm,smearing into conjunctival sac,4 times a day. Treatment courses of 2 groups lasted for 4 weeks. Clinical efficacies of 2 groups were observed as well as eyelid observation score, symptom score, the levels of IL-6 and TNF-α,the occurrence of ADR before and after treatment. RESULTS:The total response rate of observation group was significantly higher than that of control group(89.1% vs. 77.4%),with statistical significance(P0.05). After treatment, eyelid observation score of 2 groups were significantly higher than before treatment, and the observation group was significantly higher than the control group;symptom score and the levels of IL-6 and TNF-α in 2 groups were significantly lower than before treatment, and the observation group was significantly lower than the con-trol group, with statistical significance(P0.05). CONCLUSIONS:Based on routine treatment, tobramycin dexamethasone shows significant therapeutic efficacy for MGD,and can improve clinical symptoms significantly but does not increase the occurrence of ADR.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To investigate influence of compound gentamicin-fluorometholone(GentaFluoro) and tobramycin dexamethasone(TobraDex) eyedrops for treating ocular inflammation after cataract phacoemulsification.METHODS Sixty eyes in 60 patients after cataract phacoemulsification were equally randomized into two groups, such as GentaFluoro group and TobraDex group according to order of operation. Two groups were used respectively the two sort of eyedrops: GentaFluoro and TobraDex were used 6 times per day during first three days after the operation, later four days were four times per day.RESULTS GentaFluoro group and TobraDex group had identical results in controlling inflammation of anterior chamber. CONCLUSIONS The effects of GentaFluoro and TobraDex eyedrops for treating ocular inflammation after phacoemulsification are reliable.
