ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT This study aims to ascertain the significance of the basketball game parameters which discriminated between winning and losing teams in matches played. The study sample comprises matches played at the men's basketball tournament at the XXXII Olympic Games in Tokyo. Four regression models were formed. Due to the size of the sample, the number of explaining variables was reduced using factor analysis, followed by stepwise regression to ascertain the statistical significance of the obtained models summarily, which were then broken down into individual parameters. This study indicates: (1) one of the four set regression models was summarily highly statistically significant; (2) out of the remaining models, two were eliminated due to the presence of multicollinearity, and one model did not exhibit high statistical significance; (3) the final score was most influenced by the variables of two- and three-point shot percentages, number of three-point shots, turnovers, defensive rebounds, and true shooting percentage. The results of the study corroborated the results of other studies which were carried out in recent years, that the game of basketball is trending towards three-point shots and lay-ups, reduction of turnovers when passing, and defensive rebounds have been confirmed to be greatly significant.

ABSTRACT

@#Background: Despite regularly participating in international and national level multisport events, there is still limited data on the pattern of injuries and illnesses and factors associated with injuries and illnesses in Malaysia. Such information is crucial to instil preventive measures because sustaining injuries during competition could hamper the athlete’s performance. Methods: This cross-sectional study investigated the incidence, patterns and risk factors of injuries and illnesses among athletes throughout SUKIPT 2018, from the 2nd to the 10th of February 2018. All injuries and illnesses treated by tournament medical personnel were reported using a standardised online injury reporting form. This form was adapted from the injury surveillance form used by the International Olympic Committee. Results:A total of 6071 athletes from 80 contingents took part in SUKIPT 2018. During the nine days of competition 323 injuries and 48 illnesses were reported, resulting in an incidence of 5.3 injuries and 0.8 illness per 100 athletes. Approximately 6% of the athletes sustained at least one injury or illness. Conclusion:In summary, the incidence of injuries and illnesses among athletes during SUKIPT was 5.3 and 0.8 per 100 athletes, respectively. Muscle strain/rupture/tear was the most common pattern of injury while collision with another athlete was the most frequent mechanism of injury. Meanwhile, the respiratory system was the most commonly affected by illness and infection was the most prevalent cause of illness

ABSTRACT

The goal of this study was to verify the practice time influence and the participation number in different competitive levels about declarative tactical knowledge (DTK) in 111 young tennis players (16,24±5,09 years), and compare DTK level in weekly frequency during the training of these tennis players. The test used to measure DTK was DTKT: Tennis. The results indicate that the practice time in the state competitive level influenced the DTK level (p≤0,049) but the same did not occurred in the national competitive level. Tennis players who compete in national level over 11 tournaments present better DTK level that competitors in state level (p≤0,035). The DTK level did not present any meaningful difference when compared with weekly frequency of training/week. The practice quantity and the competitive level improve DTK level.
