ABSTRACT

It is analyzed the effect of chess training using a methodology focused on development of cognitive and socio-emotional competences or focused on tactical training, with a sample of compulsory education. In a quasi-experimental design: chess group 1, focused on comprehensive training (n= 110); chess group 2, focused on tactical training (n= 60); and comparison group, basketball and football activities (n= 60). Dependent variables analyzed, applied at the beginning and end of the academic course, were: cognitive competence, as assessed by performance testing; socio-emotional competence, through self-evaluation test; and chess competence, through performance test. Results showed that comprehensive training group improves not only in basic cognitive skills (attention and memory), as the group 2, but also in more complex cognitive skills (association, analysis and synthesis, planning and forecasting, etc). In socio-emotional level, not only in somatizations and classroom behavior, but also in self-esteem, motivation and attitude toward study. It is concluded that school children who practice chess obtained significantly superior results, in contrast to those who practice other activities (football or basketball), in cognitive and socio-personal skills, especially when a sensible comprehensive training methodology used.

ABSTRACT

The global and local, goal and destination, treatment and reinjury are three common critical thinking, which has the vital significance to the teaching of anesthesiology.Through the classroom interpretation of the pathogenesis,we preliminarily cultivate the students' global and local thinking by guiding students to find the primary problem in the global and local and finding out the breakthrough point of disease treatment.Through the case teaching,we promote students to constantly strengthen their goal and destination thinking by guiding students to select target, determine the endpoint, and solve the problem in stages to make the treatment of the critically ill patient which students simulate has good operability.Through adoption of problem based learning,we make students know how to achieve the optimal treatment effect by guiding them to have extensive discussions and have access to information so as to cultivate students' treatment and reinjury thinking and enhance their global and local thinking at the same time.

ABSTRACT

The role of standardized patients (SPs) has developed rapidly over the last10years because of medical education curriculum reform and the introduction of the objective structured clinical examination (OSCE). As the participation of SPs in medical education has increased, the anxieties and frustrations of SPs have also increased. We believe that an understanding of the attitudes of SPs would improve the quality of their activities. The purpose of this survey was to study the activities and psychological needs of Japanese SPs in the OSCE.
1) The response rate to the nationwide survey was62% (332of532SPs).
2) Role-playing and group discussion were the most common training methods, and the length of training varied from 0 to 40 hours.
3) The factors that SPs felt difficult were judging how much to respond in their performances (73%) and maintaining consistent standards in evaluating examinees (66%).
4) Our results suggest that SPs require more training and that the number of SP educators should be increased.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore an appropriate training method to quickly improve the soldiers' aerobic endurance capacity and decrease the incidence of military training injuries for combat troops. Methods Two hundred and forty-eight recruits (males,Hanzu) from infantry without previous history of military training were involved in the present study, and they were divided averagely into experimental group and control group (124 each). Intensified endurance training designed with the theory of "cyclic training" was applied in experimental group, and routine training method was applied in control group including mainly 5000 meters running (no more than once a day,3 times a week). The resting pulse, vital capacity, maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) and the performance of 5000m running were determined before and after eight-week-training as endurance capacity indices. Physical examination was performed to count the cases of military training injuries including calf swelling and tenderness, knee swelling and pain, and low back pain, and then the incidence of military training injuries was calculated. Results In the experimental group, the resting pulse decreased by 8.0%,while the vital capacity,VO2max and 5000m running performance elevated by 8.1%,20.0% and 14.7% respectively after training, which were significantly different in comparison with that before training and of control group (P
