ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the fatigue status of military personnel stationed in plateau and high cold region, and to analyze the mediator effect of trait coping style on job stress and fatigue.@*Methods@#In October 2010, with the method of cluster random sampling survey, 531 military personnel stationed in plateau and high cold region were chosen as subject. The fatigue status were evaluated by the Chinese version multidimensional fatigue inventory (MFI-20) , job stress were evaluated by the Job Stress Survey (JSS) , and trait coping style were evaluated by the Trait Coping Style Questionnaire (TCSQ) .@*Results@#According to the information of different population characteristics, mean rank of physical fatigue about the urban (town) group were higher than that of rural group (Z=-2.200, P<0.05) ; mean rank of reduced motivation about the urban (town) group were higher than that of rural group (Z=-2.781, P<0.05) ; mean rank of general fatigue scores about the urban (town) group were higher than that of rural group (Z=-3.026, P<0.05) ; mean rank of physical fatigue about the up or equal 20-years old age group were higher than that of below 20-years old age group (Z=-4.045, P<0.05) ; mean rank of reduced motivation about the up or equal 20-years old age group were higher than that of below 20-years old age group (Z=-2.182, P<0.05) ; mean rank of mental fatigue about the up or equal 20-years old age group were higher than that of below 20-years old age group (Z=-2.879, P<0.05) ; mean rank of general fatigue scores about the up or equal 20-years old age group were higher than that of below 20-years old age group (Z=-3.647, P<0.05) ; mean rank of reduced motivation were significant statistical difference among the military officers, sergeancy and soldier group (F=18.965, P<0.05) ; mean rank of general fatigue scores were significant statistical difference among the military officers, sergeancy and soldier group (F=14.711, P<0.05) . The score of negative coping style were positively correlated with the score of physical fatigue (rs=0.129) , reduced activity (rs=0.123) , reduced motivation (rs=0.149) and general fatigue (rs=0.174) respectively, the score of organizational support lack strength were positively correlated with the score of physical fatigue (rs=0.090) , reduced activity (rs=0.098) , reduced motivation (rs=0.099) and general fatigue (rs=0.130) respectively. The mediator effect of negative coping style on the job stress and fatigue was 0.013 (P<0.01) .@*Conclusion@#The fatigue statuses of the urban (town) group and the up or equal 20-years old age group are poor, and the negative coping style plays mediator effect on the job stress and fatigue.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the relationship between avoidant personality disorder and trait coping style, especially the mediating effect of positive mental characters. Methods A sample of 8 500 male recruits was assessed with personality diagnostic questionnaire?4+( PDQ?4+) , positive mental characters scale for recruits(PMCS?R) and trait coping style questionnaire(TCSQ). Results The scores of avoidant personality disorder group were lower than control group on wisdom((3.41±0.77) vs (3.76±0.74)),courage ((3.62±0.76) vs (4.05±0.78)),humanity((3.59±0.75) vs (3.98±0.72)),justice((3.64±0.75) vs (4.02 ±0.76)),temperance((3.58±0.85) vs (4.01±0.83)),transcendence((3.77±0.72) vs (4.13±0.71)),posi?tive mental characters((3.60±0.66) vs (3.99±0.62)) and trait coping style((32.74±6.71) vs (36.61± 6.23)),while negative coping style score was higher than control group((30.87±6.91) vs (22.79±6.96)) respectively, with statistical significance( all P<0.01) . Avoidant personality disorder had significantly negative correlation with positive mental characters and trait coping style( r=-0.323,-0.320,all P<0.01) ,and signif?icantly positive correlation with negative coping style ( r=0.579, P<0.01). Positive mental characters had significantly positive correlation with trait coping style( r=0.548, P<0.01) ,and significantly negative corre? lation with negative coping style( r=-0.289, P<0.01). Hierarchy regression analysis showed that positive mental characters mediate the relationship between trait coping style ( positive coping style, negative coping style) and avoidant personality disorder ( the value of mediating effect was 50.07%,6.36%) . Conclusion ?Recruits’ avoidant personality disorder affects trait coping style not only directly, but also indirectly through positive mental characters.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the relationship between depression and trait coping style in Chongqing middle school students. Methods Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) and Trait Coping Style Questionnaire (TCSQ) were adopted in the study to test the randomly sampled 1 596 middle school students of Chongqing. Results Students’ depression rate was a little bit high (58.4%).The differences in depression (41.20?7.83),other factors [psychological disorder (3.30?1.36),physical disorder (15.19?3.01),psychomotor disturbance (4.43?1.25) and mental disorder (18.27?4.70)],and trait coping style [positive coping style (29.5?8.5) and negative coping style (23.0?7.8)] was significant among genders, grades and school types.Students’ depression was in correlation with positive (besides psychological disorder factor,r=-0.483,-0.267,-0.272,and-0.553) and negative coping style (r=0.242,0.618,0.175,0.190,and 0.098) in different degrees.Coping style was a valuable predictor of students’ depression. Conclusion Students’ depression is significantly correlated to trait coping style in middle school students.Positive coping style can reduce the rate of student’s depression.
