ABSTRACT

Objective: This study aims to analyze and identify the clinicopathology, prognosis and therapy of patients with breast pure tubular carcinoma (PTC). Methods: A retrospective analysis of clinicopathology and outcomes in 45 patients with breast PTC from January 2004 to December 2008 at Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital was performed. Results: The incidence rate of lymph node metastasis was low while the less number of positive lymph nodes in patients with axillary lymph node metastasis (not more than three). It was also found that p53 (P = 0.044) and bilateral breast cancer (P = 0.004) were risk factors affecting the disease-free survival of breast PTC according to univariate analysis, while the regression model analysis showed that they were not independent risk factors affecting prognosis of PTC. The 5-year diease-free survival was 91.1%, meanwhile the 5-year overall survival was 100.0% in 45 patients with breast PTC. Radiotherapy (P = 0.300) didn't show a significant effect on the prognosis of patients with breast PTC. Conclusion: The axillary lymph node cleaning may be replaced with sentinel lymph node biopsy based on the low rate of lymph node metastasis and good prognosis, in order to reduce the occurrence of postoperative complications and improve the quality of life. For breast PTC patients with more than three axillary lymph node metastasis, the use of radiotherapy still need further studies and should be discussed.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the biological characteristics , therapy selection of tubular breast carcinoma.Relationship between axillary lymph node metastasis and other factors are analyzed retrospectively . Methods Tubular carcinoma patients were collected in our hospital from June ,1987 to March,2014.Paraffin tis-sues were re-checked again by pathology doctors and all patients were performed follow -up by telephone to e-valuate the prognosis .Results Sixty eight cases of tubular carcinoma of the breast were chosen .Axillary lymph node metastasis was closely related to tumor size and tumor grade in our research .In all patients ,only one patient was relapsed ,24 patients died of other diseases ,without distant metastasis or death of breast cancer .Conclusion Tubular breast carcinoma has a good prognosis with low recurrence rate .The treatment of tubular carcinoma is not quite reasonable .Preoperative core needle biopsy and surgery axillary staging should be paid more attention and breast conserving rate is still needed for improvement .

ABSTRACT

Purpose To investigate clinicopathological features, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of tubular carcinoma of the breast. Methods Morphological observation and immunohistochemistry were applied in 29 cases of tubular carcinoma of the breast, and the literatures were also reviewed. Results The tumors were composed of open tubules, infiltrating haphazardly in the cellular desmoplastic stroma. The neoplastic tubules were enclosed by a single layer of epithelial cells with insignificant atypia or rare mitoses. The tumors were often associated with lobular neoplasm, columnar cell lesion, ductal atypical hyperplasia or carcinoma in situ. Immunostaining displayed that myoepithelial cells were absent or incomplete. Conclusions Tubular carcinoma of the breast is a peculiar subtype of breast carcinoma with good prognoses, which is easily confused with microglandular adenosis, radial sclerosing lesions,or low grade invasive ductal carcinoma.Immunohistochemistry is useful for the differential diagnosis.

ABSTRACT

We describe here a case of intraductal tubular carcinoma of the main pancreatic duct. Gadolinium-enhanced pancreas magnetic resonance (MR) imaging showed an enhancing mass that was confined in the dilated main pancreatic duct of the pancreatic body, along with dilatation of the upstream main pancreatic duct and chronic pancreatitis that was due to obstruction. MR cholangiopancreatography and an endoscopic retrograde pancreatogram showed a filling defect that was due to an intraductal mass of the pancreatic body, along with dilatation of the upstream main pancreatic duct and no dilatation of the downstream main pancreatic duct. The pathological findings demonstrated an intraductal nodular appearance without papillary projection or mucin hypersecretion.
