ABSTRACT

We studied the effect of calcium ion on particle size and pore structure of cross-linked enzyme aggregates (CLEAs) of glucose oxidase, with activity and stability of the enzyme as evaluation criteria. With calcium ion to prepare CLEA significantly decreased particle sizes of CLEAs whilst the pore structures of CLEAs gradually disappeared with the increase of calcium concentration. When glucose oxidase was precipitated at 0.1 mmol/L Ca²⁺, glucose oxidase in CLEA showed the definitive pore structure. Moreover, glucose oxidase activity in CLEA with Ca²⁺ was 1.69 times higher than that without Ca²⁺. Even at Ca²⁺ as high as 1.0 mmol/L, glucose oxidase activity in CLEA was 42% higher than that of CLEA without Ca²⁺. Furthermore, CLEA prepared with 0.1 mmol/L Ca²⁺ not only exhibited higher substrate conversion and operational stability, but also increased the maximum reaction speed. Therefore, calcium ion improved the performance of glucose oxidase in CLEAs.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To establish an algorithm on the turnover ratio of drug inventory. Methods: According to the employed method in the commercial field on calculating the inventory turnover and the requirements in the review of three level hospitals by the National Health and Family Planning Commission, an appropriate method for calculating the turnover rate of drug inventory was de-duced. Meanwhile, a corresponding program was performed for the verification. Results:Only the day turnover could be obtained ac-cording to the algorithms on the inventory turnover in commercial field, and the circumstances of the sales could be replaced by the cur-rent sales to obtain the statistics at any given time, while there was remarkable difference between the calculated results and the actual results of some species. If the time in store was chosen as the statistical index, the problem could be avoided. Conclusion:The meth-od with drug storage time as the statistical index can calculate the inventory turnover ratio at any time precisely, which also can be pro-grammed automatically, and the proportion of available varieties meets the inspection requirements.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To research the expense distribution of discharged patients during hospitalization to find out the period with the greatest weight, and provide reliable evidence for the increase of turnover rate by controlling hospitalization of patients and medical security. Methods:Totally 2 444 discharged patients of our hospital from September to November in 2013 with stay day of 1 to 20 d were analyzed, and then divided into the internal medicine group and surgical groups including surgical operation group and surgical without operation group. The hospitalization expenses and drug expense in all the groups were counted and compared. Results: The daily expense in the internal medicine group showed significant difference when compared with that in the surgical operation group and surgical without operation group (P0. 05). The daily expense in the surgical operation group was with linear decrease, and that in the other groups was with logarithmic decline. The 10-day expense in each group had significant difference (P<0. 05) compared by median test. The expense proportion of drugs in all groups was generally increased along with the hospitalization days. Conclusion:The effective method for the decrease of drug pro-portion is shortening hospitalization days, especially in surgical departmens, the drug proportion is increased along with the length of stay.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this article is to analyze how the São Paulo criminal justice system handles homicide cases reported through the State's police precincts (from 1991 to 1998) and the respective law enforcement and legal ramifications. The data were obtained from the Seade Foundation database. Using this information, the study showed that non-legal variables like color and age play a key role in understanding the system's rulings and sentences in murder cases.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

The seagrass of Perezoso (Cahuita National Park, Caribbean coast of Costa Rica) was monitored using the CARICOMP protocol. Productivity (2.7 +/- 1.15 g/m2/d; n=74) was intermediate, compared to other Caribbean sites. Total biomass was intermediate to high (750-1500 g/m2) at most CARICOMP sites (Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela) including Costa Rica (822.8 +/- 391.84 g/m2; n=32). Turnover rates were high (5.5 +/- 1.36%; n=74) compared to what was found in March and August at other sites. Shoot densities average 725 shoots/m2, in the Caribbean region, while in Costa Rica the value was higher (1184 +/- 335.5 shoots/m2). Average leaf length and width in the entire region were 14.4 cm and 10.6 mm, respectively, similar to what we found, but leaf area index average 3.4 m2 m(-2), higher than what was found in Costa Rica (0.92 m2 m(-2)). At Cahuita, seagrass productivity was significantly lower in March 2005 compared with the previous six years, and biomass has decreased with time. Seagrass productivity and biomass are being affected by the maximum temperatures, which increased by almost 10 degrees C from 1999 to 2005, and show a high negative correlation. Turnover rate and temperature were not correlated. Recreational boating, swimming and nutrient loading from deforested lands in the coast, the upstream rivers and local pollution are potential sources of impact to the seagrass beds at Cahuita.

ABSTRACT

The main objectives of this study were to assess the age related changes of biochemical indices of bone turnover in postmenopausal osteoporotic females, and to assess the correlations of these indices with bone mineral density(BMD) of lumbar spine measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry(DEXA). Subgects were 70 osteoporotic women in pre and postmenopausal periods. The results showed that Postmenopausal women had higher level of Osteocalcin(OS) and Deoxypyridinoline(DPYD) with lower level BMD of lumbar spine compared with premenopausal women. Age, height, and weight had significant correlations with BMD of lumbar spine. Also a significant correlation was observed between the OS and DPYD. Pre and postmenopausal osteoporotic women(5, 10, 15 year duration) were similar for the rate of bone turnover. These results indicate that the biochemical indices used in our study are the potential markers to predict an age related change of BMD, as well as bone turnover rate of the lower BMD subjects. The combination of BMD measurement and assessment of the bone turnover rate by measuring biochemical indices would be helpful for the screening and treatment of patients with risks of osteoporosis.

ABSTRACT

Maintenance of normal rate of tear production and elimination is essential for the proper controlled envionment for the cornea and the conjunctiva. We analyzed tear turnover rates in normal subjects, which mainly depend on tear production. We scanned 65 eyes of 36 normal subjects after instillation of 2% fluorescein solution 1u into the lower conjunctival fornix, using fluorophotometer (Fluorotron Master). After instillation of fluorescein solution, we scanned the eyes every 3 minutes for 30 minutes to measure tear film fluorescence. We calculated the tear turnover rate using tear film fluorescence valuse. Mean tear turnover rates were 12.3+/-6.6 %/min in normal subjects, 12.7+/-6.9 %/min in men, and 11.7+/-6.6 %/min in women. Mean tear turnover rates of men did not differ significantly from those of women (p>0.05). Mean tear turnover rates of younger subjects(25 years old~40 years old) (16.2 +/-7.4 %/min) were found to be significantly higher than ghose of older subjects(41 years old~73 years old) (9.1+/-40 %/min) (p0.05). We think that this study might be useful to study the diagnosis and treatement of tear secretory system disorders.

ABSTRACT

In order to evaluate the influence of soft contact lens(SCL) on the tear turnover rate in the conjunctival sac with SCL, this study was performed with lacrimal scintillography. Two determinations were carried out in the same eye: the first determination was carried out in both eyes without SCL(control group) and the second determination was carried out in both eyes after adaptation to the SCL from 4 hours to 8 hours only in the left eye(study group). In the results, there was no statistical difference of the fractional turnover rate of the tear between both eyes without SCL. In left eyes, the fractional tunover rate of the study group was significantly lower than that of the control group, because the accumulation of the Technetium 99m sodium pertechnetate in the SCL. In right eyes, there was no statistical difference of the fractional turnover rate of the tear between the control group and the study group. This result may be derived from 'fatigue block' and/or the decreased sensitivity of the cornea fitted with SCL.
