ABSTRACT

The Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) issued the new version of the guidelines on diagnosis and treatment of NSCLC in April 2023.The new version updated the diagnostic and therapeutic strategy of rare oncogenic mutations, including ROS1 fusion, BRAF V600E mutation, NTRK fusion, MET exon 14 skipping mutation, RET fusion, and EGFR exon 20 insertion mutation, in NSCLC.This review will interpret the most important updates in the guidelines 2023 regarding the diagnosis as well as first-line and post-line therapies of these rare oncogenic mutations.

ABSTRACT

The latest fifth edition of the World Health Organization classification of central nervous system tumors (WHO CNS5) has been built on the prior WHO 2016 classification as well as recommendations put forward by seven updates of the Consortium to Inform Molecular and Practical Approaches to CNS Tumor Taxonomy (cIMPACT). Various new tumor types and subtypes have been recognized which are of clinical significance. Tumor groups have been restructured and the nomenclature of some tumor types has also been revised. The use of terms 'entity' and 'variant' have been replaced by 'type' and 'subtype'. Significant changes have been introduced in the grading of tumors viz. use of Arabic numerals, grading within individual tumor types and combined histological and molecular grading. The terms 'Not otherwise specified' and 'Not elsewhere classified' can now be used for all tumor types. WHO CNS5 also for the first time endorses the use of DNA methylation profiling for the diagnosis of some tumor types/subtypes. Finally, the importance of combining histology with molecular parameters is emphasized for the “layered reporting” and “integrated diagnosis”, which will provide valuable diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive information, as well as for some entities, suggest targeted therapies.

ABSTRACT

@#Based on new clinical evidence, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) annually updates and releases the "NCCN Guidelines for the Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer" which has become the reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment approved and complied by clinicians worldwide. On November 25, 2020, the latest 2021 V1 version of "NCCN Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer" (hereinafter referred to as "Guidelines") was released. Compared with the 8th edition of the "Guidelines" in 2020, many updates focused on the progress of targeted and immunotherapy. This article will provide the interpretations of the updated therapy content of this edition of the guidelines.

ABSTRACT

As a revolutionary plastic treatment, skin soft tissue expansion has become one of the three conventional techniques of plastic surgery after skin grafting and flap transplantation. At present, expansion is widely used in the treatment of various lesions in multiple parts of the body. It plays an irreplaceable role in many areas such as scar repair, alopecia treatment, ear, nose, breast, penis and other organ reconstruction and surface tumor management. In recent years, the application of expansion has been constantly evolving, and it has renewed its vitality by combining with new technologies. However, the prevention and treatment of complications of expansion should be paid more attention, the expansion efficiency needs to be improved, the basic research on the skin regeneration mechanism and micro-environment changes of expansion is still lacking, and further exploration is needed. Based on this, the clinical application principles, new progress and experimental exploration of skin soft tissue expansion were reviewed and summarized, and the possible development directions were analyzed.

ABSTRACT

@#Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) remain a public health problem worldwide, with more than 1 million people acquiring an STI every day. In the Philippines, the total number of people with STIs other than human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is not known. Hence, the Philippine Dermatological Society (PDS) has taken the initiative to document STI cases in its institutions since 2011. Syphilis, human papillomavirus (HPV), herpes simplex virus (HSV) and HIV infections are some of the common STIs in our country. A total of 665 syphilis patients, 2,053 HPV-infected patients and 977 patients with herpes have been seen and treated in PDS institutions throughout the country from 2011 to 2018. The number of HIV cases on the other hand, have already reached 58,181 from January 1984 to August 2018. In August 2018 alone, 1,047 new cases of HIV have been reported to the HIV/AIDS & ART Registry of the Philip- pines (HARP). The rates of STI infections like HIV, syphilis, HPV and herpes may be on the rise but clinicians can have a significant impact on this trend. With effective counselling, early and accurate detection, diagnosis and treatment, the threat and burden of STIs can be greatly reduced.

ABSTRACT

We briefly reviewed the most significant advance in the field of hemangioma and vascular malformation from the second half of 2016 to the first quarter of 2018. Breakthroughs in basic research, genetic discoveries and animal model development have significantly contributed to the classification, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and treatment of vascular anomalies including surgical treatment, endovascular therapies, laser treatment and drug therapies. Here, we have discussed important discoveries and innovative hypotheses in infantile hemangioma, congenital hemangioma, KHE/TA, port-wine stain, venous malformation, lymphatic malformation, arteriovenous malformation and etc. Together, we have proposed future directions to help shaping this field.

ABSTRACT

Osteoporosis is a condition of low bone mass which predisposes to fractures. This silently progressive metabolic bone disease is widely prevalent in India in both sexes and occurs at younger age than in western population. Rapid bone loss occurs in postmenopausal women due to hormonal factors. Indians have low bone density compared to Caucasians. High prevalence of vitamin D deficiency is a major factor for poor bone health in India. The bone health of population can be improved by encouraging children to drink milk and take enough exercise. Results of randomised trials have revolutionised treatments and several effective therapeutic drugs are available. Despite new treatments many patients with fractures still do not receive appropriate management. Early detection and management of this condition can avoid the risk of fractures and associated morbidity and mortality
