ABSTRACT

Abstract The aim of this study is to analyze the psychometric properties and to examine the factorial validity of the Portuguese version of the Questionnaire Assessing School Physical Activity Environment (Q-SPACE) for school-age youth. The translated and adapted version of the questionnaire was applied and resulted in two studies: study I, in which 504 students participated (56% boys), the factorial structure of the scale was examined; in study II, which involved 501 students (53.5% boys), the factorial structure obtained in study I was tested through confirmatory factor analysis. The results of the exploratory factorial analysis, carried out in study I, showed that the Portuguese version of the Q-SPACE is composed of five factors that characterize the students' perception regarding the social and physical school environment for physical activity: equipment and space conditions; recess; school social support; physical education structure; school activity offer. Internal consistency values ranged from 0.60 to 0.89. The confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the applicability of the Portuguese Q-SPACE version, presenting adequate fit indexes: χ2/df = 2.90, GFI = 0.92; CFI = 0.92; RMSEA = 0.06. In conclusion, Q-SPACE showed acceptable validity and reliability for assessing school physical activity environment in Portuguese adolescents.


Resumo O objetivo deste estudo é analisar as propriedades psicométricas e examinar a validade fatorial da versão portuguesa do instrumento "Questionnaire Assessing School Physical Activity Environment" (Q-SPACE) para jovens em idade escolar. A versão traduzida e adaptada da escala foi aplicada e resultaram dois estudos: no estudo I, em que participaram 504 estudantes (56% eram rapazes), foi examinada a estrutura fatorial da escala; no estudo II, em que participaram 501 estudantes (53.5% eram rapazes), foi testada a estrutura fatorial obtida no estudo I através da análise fatorial confirmatória. O resultado da análise fatorial exploratória, efetuada no estudo I, demonstrou que a versão portuguesa da escala Q-SPACE é constituída por cinco fatores que caraterizam a perceção dos estudantes relativamente ao ambiente social e físico escolar para a prática de atividade física: condições dos espaços e material; intervalos; suporte social escolar; organização da educação física; diversidade de atividades. Os valores de consistência interna variaram entre 0.60 e 0.89. A análise fatorial confirmatória, comprovou a aplicabilidade da versão portuguesa do Q-SPACE, apresentando adequados índices de ajustamento: χ2/df = 2.90, GFI = 0.92; CFI = 0.92; RMSEA = 0.06. Em conclusão, a escala Q-SPACE demonstrou uma validade e fiabilidade adequadas para avaliar a perceção do ambiente escolar para a prática de atividade física em adolescentes portugueses.

Resumen El objetivo de este estudio fue validar el Inventario de Adicción al Ejercicio (EAI) en el contexto brasileño. Participaron en el estudio 251 estudiantes universitarios (hombres = 132, mujeres = 119, Medad = 22.34, DT = 4.65). Los resultados mostraron un adecuado ajuste del modelo a los datos: χ2 (9, N = 251) = 17.45, p = 0.04; χ2/gl = 1.94; CFI = 0.96; IFI = 0.96; RMSEA = 0.061 (IC 90 % = 0.01-0.10); SRMR = 0.041. La estructura factorial se mostró invariante respecto del género. Se obtuvieron adecuados valores de consistencia interna (ρ = 0.70) y estabilidad temporal (CCI = 0.80). Dieciséis (6.4 %) participantes fueron clasificados en riesgo de adicción, 198 (78.9 %) como sintomáticos y 37 (14.7 %) como asintomáticos. Se obtuvieron evidencias que permiten sugerir la validez y la fiabilidad del EAI en el contexto brasileño. No obstante, las investigaciones con poblaciones más diversas deberían determinar la aplicabilidad general del EAI.


Abstract The purpose of this study was to validate the Exercise Addiction Inventory (EAI) in the Brazilian context. A total of 251 university students (male = 132, female = 119, Mage = 22.34, SD = 4.65) participated in the study. Results showed an adequate fit to the data: χ2 (9, N = 251) = 17.45, p = .04; χ2/gl = 1.94; CFI = .96; IFI = .96; RMSEA = .061 (IC 90 % = .01-.10); SRMR = .041. The factorial structure was invariant across gender. Adequate values of internal consistency (ρ = .70) and temporal stability (ICC = .82) were obtained. Sixteen students (6.4 %) were classified at risk of exercise addiction, 198 (78.9 %) as symptomatic and 37 (14.7 %) as asymptomatic. Evidence for the reliability and validity of the EAI in the Brazilian context were obtained. Nevertheless, research in more diverse populations is needed to further examine the general applicability of the EAI.

Introducción: La literatura refiere el alto impacto del EPOC en la calidad de vida de los pacientes, pero existe un número limitado de instrumentos válidos en Colombia para medirlo, por ello el objetivo del presente estudio fue analizar la versión colombiana del cuestionario del Airways Questionnaire 20 (AQ20) en una muestra colombiana de pacientes con diagnóstico de enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica (EPOC). Métodos: Estudio de corte psicométrico, se aplicó el cuestionario a 71 de pacientes adultos con diagnóstico de EPOC de la ciudad de Bogotá. Resultados: El análisis factorial denota 4 factores: afectaciones físicas, afectaciones emocionales, afectaciones en la vida social, afectaciones en actividades de la vida diaria y un alfa de Cronbach de .92. Conclusiones: Los resultados muestran una alta confiabilidad y concordancia en la estructura factorial con la versión original, lo que implica adecuada validez de la prueba en población colombiana de EPOC.


Introduction: Literature refers the high impact of COPD on the quality of life in patients, but not exist valid instruments to measure it, therefore the objective of this study was to analyze the Colombian version of the questionnaire Airways Questionnaire 20 (AQ20) in a Colombian sample of patients diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods: Psychometric study, the questionnaire was applied to 71 adult patients diagnosed with COPD in Bogotá city. Results: Factor analysis indicates four factors: physical damages, emotional damages, damages in social life, disruption in activities of daily living, and a Cronbach’s alpha of 92. Conclusions: The results show high reliability and factor structure in accordance with the original version, which implies adequate validity of the test in Colombian population of COPD.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Objective: to construct and validate the contents of the Self-care Assessment instrument for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Method: methodological study, based on Orem's General Theory of Nursing. The empirical categories and the items of the instrument were elucidated through a focus group. The content validation process was performed by seven specialists and the semantic analysis by 14 patients. The Content Validity Indices of the items, ≥0.78, and of the scale, ≥0.90, were considered excellent. Results: the instrument contains 131 items in six dimensions corresponding to the health deviation self-care requisites. Regarding the maintenance, a Content Validity Index of 0.98 was obtained for the full set of items, and, regarding the relevance, Content Validity Indices ≥0.80 were obtained for the majority of the assessed psychometric criteria. Conclusion: the instrument showed evidence of content validity.


RESUMO Objetivo: construir e validar o conteúdo do instrumento Avaliação do Autocuidado para pacientes com diabetes mellitus tipo 2. Método: estudo metodológico, fundamentado na Teoria Geral de Enfermagem de Orem. As categorias empíricas e os itens do instrumento foram elucidados por meio de grupo focal. O processo de validação de conteúdo foi realizado por sete especialistas e a análise semântica por 14 pacientes. Foram considerados como excelente Índice de Validade de Conteúdo dos itens ≥ 0,78 e da escala ≥ 0,90. Resultados: o instrumento contém seis dimensões correspondentes aos requisitos de autocuidado para o desvio da saúde, desmembradas em 131 itens. Quanto à permanência, obteve-se para o conjunto total de itens Índice de Validade de Conteúdo de 0,98, e quanto à adequação Índice de Validade de Conteúdo ≥ 0,80 para maioria dos critérios psicométricos avaliados. Conclusão: o instrumento mostrou evidências de validade de conteúdo.

Introducción: La inteligencia emocional ha demostrado tener relaciones con el desempeño académico y el laboral, sin embargo, las propiedades psicométricas de escalas utilizadas para su medición han sido escasamente analizadas en culturas latinoamericanas, como es el caso del Cuestionario Rasgo Inteligencia Emocional Versión Corta (TEIQue- SF por sus siglas en inglés). Objetivo: Analizar la confiabilidad de sus factores y facetas, examinar su estructura factorial y determinar su validez concurrente. Metodología: Estudio observacional analítico realizado con base en una muestra guiada por participantes compuesta de estudiantes de una universidad mexicana (N=155). La confiabilidad se determinó con alfa de Cronbach y coeficiente omega, la estructura factorial y su validez mediante análisis factoriales exploratorios y confirmatorios, y la validez concurrente teniendo como criterio las escalas afecto positivo y afecto negativo del PANAS. Resultados: Se obtuvieron en general índices de confiabilidad reducidos para los factores de la escala original (alfa de Cronbach entre .32 a .82; coeficiente omega entre .16 a .83), y su estructura original no pudo comprobarse en el análisis factorial confirmatorio (X2=768.47, gl=390 y p=.0000, CFI=.65, RMSEA=.008, 90% IC=.071-.087). Los análisis factoriales exploratorios tampoco sustentaron la validez de constructo, al obtenerse una estructura en que se mezclaron entre sí los ítems de distintos factores y facetas. La validez concurrente tanto de la escala original como de la obtenida con los nuevos factores pareció insuficiente al obtener algunas correlaciones significativas débiles tanto con el afecto negativo como con el afecto positivo (r entre -.04 y .21). Conclusiones: La escala no mostró adecuadas propiedades psicométricas en la muestra participante, y son necesarios más estudios que sustenten estos hallazgos, recalcando que es importante publicar resultados negativos en estos casos.


Introduction: Emotional intelligence has been shown to have relationships with academic performance and work, however, the psychometric properties of scales used for measurement have been poorly analyzed in Latin American cultures, such as Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire Short Form (TEIQue-SF for its acronym in English). Objectives: To analyze the reliability of its factors and facets, examine its factorial structure and determine concurrent validity. Methodology: Analytical observational study based on a sample guided by participants composed of students from a Mexican university (N = 155). Reliability was determined with Cronbach's alpha and omega coefficient, the factor structure and validity through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyzes, and concurrent validity having criterion positive affect and negative affect scales PANAS. Results: Were obtained generally reduced reliability indices for the factors of the original scale (Cronbach's alpha between .32 to 8.2; omega coefficient between .16 to .83), and its original structure could not be verified in the confirmatory factor analysis (X2=768.47, df=390 and p=.0000, CFI=.65, RMSEA=.008, 90% CI=.071-.087). Exploratory factor analyzes also did not sustain construct validity, by obtaining a structure in which mixed together items of different factors and facets. The concurrent validity of both the original scale and obtained with the new factors seemed weak to get some significant correlations with both negative affect as positive affect (r between -.04 and .21). Conclusions: The scale did not show adequate psychometric properties in the participant sample, and more studies are needed to substantiate these findings, stressing that it is important to publish negative results in these cases.

ABSTRACT

Background. The physical condition of the elderly is related to health and functional independence. One specific and scientifically valid instrument measuring this parameter is the Senior Fitness Test, of which the original version is in English. Objective. To identify the face validity of the test for use in Spanish language based on the cultural adaptation of the English version. Materials and methods. Descriptive study, for which cross-cultural adaptation to Spanish was performed. This involved translation, evaluation of conceptual equivalence by three bilingual experts, synthesis of observations, calculation of values for the index of agreement and applicability. Results. The overall agreement rate is 0.9485. No disagreements arose between the judges for any of the items, and intelligibility is of 85.2%, according to subjects of different ages and levels of schooling. Conclusions. A version of the Senior Fitness Test adapted to Spanish was obtained. The test is backed up by face validity and comprehensibility, and conserves semantic, idiomatic, and conceptual equivalence to the original version.


Antecedentes. La condición física del adulto mayor está relacionada con el estado de salud y su independencia funcional. Uno de los instrumentos específicos y científicamente validos que mide este parámetro es el Senior Fitness Test, cuya versión original es en inglés. Objetivo. Identificar la validez de apariencia del test para uso en español desde la adaptación transcultural de la versión en inglés. Materiales y métodos. Estudio descriptivo, donde se realizó la adaptación transcultural al español, así: traducción, valoración de la equivalencia conceptual por tres expertos bilingües, síntesis de las observaciones, obtención del índice de acuerdo y prueba de aplicabilidad. Resultados. El índice de acuerdo global es de 0,9485; en ninguno de los ítems se presentó desacuerdo entre los jueces y la comprensibilidad es de 85,2%, referida por sujetos de diversa escolaridad y edad. Conclusiones. Se obtuvo la versión adaptada al español del Senior Fitness Test, respaldada en la validez de apariencia y comprensibilidad, conservando la equivalencia semántica, idiomática y conceptual en relación a la versión original.

ABSTRACT

Objetivo: Determinar la validez y confiabilidad de la escala para homofobia (EHF) en estudiantes de medicina de una universidad de Bogotá, Colombia, 2010. Método: Se realizó un estudio de validación con la participación de 124 estudiantes de sexto a décimo semestre, en edades entre 19 y 34 años de edad, media de 23,7 años (DE=2,7); y 66,1%, mujeres y 33,9% hombres. Resultados: Se estimó alfa de Cronbach y omega de McDonald como medidas de confiabilidad y análisis factorial exploratorio para conocer la estructura interna de la escala. El alfa de Cronbach fue 0,81 y la omega deMcDonald, 0,82. La estructura interna dio cuenta de un único factor responsable del 49,2% de la varianza. Conclusión: La EHF muestra buena consistencia interna y un factor en estudiantes de medicina de sexto a décimo semestre de una universidad de Bogotá, Colombia. La escala mide con aceptable validez y confiabilidad el prejuicio hacia personas homosexuales en estudiantes de medicina. Este desempeño permite el uso en nuevas investigaciones...


Objective:To determine the validity and reliability of the Homophobia Scale (HS) inmedical students of a university in Bogotá, Colombia, 2010.Method:A validation stu-dy was conducted with the participation of 124 students from sixth to tenth semester,aged between 19 and 34 years old, average 23.7 years (SD=2.7); and 66.1% womenand 33.9% men.Results:It was estimated Cronbach alpha and McDonald omegaas measures of reliability; and exploratory factor analysis to determine the internalstructure of the scale. Cronbach alpha was 0.81; and McDonald omega, 0.82. Theinternal structure showed a single factor responsible for 49.2% of the total variance.Conclusion:HS shows good internal consistency and a single factor in medical stu-dents from sixth to tenth semester at a university in Bogotá, Colombia. HS measureswith acceptable validity and reliability the prejudice toward homosexuals in medicalstudents. This performance allows use in further research.

ABSTRACT

This research investigates the evidence demonstrating the reliability and convergent validity between the Social Skills Inventory for Adolescents and the Matson Evaluation of Social Skills with Youngsters in two groups: the first with 136 adolescents from a public school (89 females and 47 males, with ages ranging from 12 to 17 years, 13.98 ± 1.24 years); the second with 24 adolescents from a socio-educational program (ages ranging from 13 to 17 years, 15.64 ± 1.18 years). The results showed low and moderate correlations between some subscales of both instruments (Matson Evaluation of Social Skills with Youngsters and Social Skills Inventory for Adolescents), evidencing convergent validity between the Social Skills Inventory for Adolescents scores and the social skills/assertiveness" subscale of the Matson Evaluation of Social Skills with Youngsters. Comparisons between the groups indicated that the second sample had less difficulty in Civility (Social Skills Inventory for Adolescents) than the first sample (public school adolescents)...


Este estudo investiga evidências de fidedignidade e de validade convergente entre o Inventário de Habilidades Sociais para Adolescentes e a Matson Evaluation of Social Skills with Youngsters em dois grupos: o primeiro, constituído por 136 jovens de uma instituição pública (89 do sexo feminino e 47 do masculino, com idade entre 12 e 17 anos, 13,98 ± 1,24); o segundo, por 24 adolescentes participantes de um programa de medidas socioeducativas (idade entre 13 e 17 anos, 15,64 ± 1,18). Os resultados indicaram correlações baixas e moderadas entre algumas subescalas dos dois instrumentos, indicando evidências de validade convergente entre os escores do Inventário de Habilidades Sociais para Adolescentes e a subescala de habilidades sociais/assertividade da Matson Evaluation of Social Skills with Youngsters. FUNDAMENTO: A prevalência de depressão em portadores de doença arterial coronariana (DAC) é alta. A escala de depressão geriátrica (EDG) é um instrumento amplamente usado para rastrear a depressão em idosos. No Brasil, as propriedades psicométricas da versão curta ainda não foram adequadamente exploradas. OBJETIVO: Avaliar as propriedades psicométricas da versão curta da EDG em portadores de DAC em ambulatório de cardiologia. MÉTODOS: Estudo transversal que avaliou 209 idosos (≥ 65 anos) com DAC utilizando a EDG-15, Cumulative Illness Rating Scale for Geriatrics (CIRS), Brazilian OARS Multidimensional Function Assessment Questionnaire (BOMFAQ) e The Cambridge Examination for Mental Disorders of the Elderly (CAMDEX). A consistência interna da EDG-15 foi calculada pelo KR-20. Uma análise fatorial dessa escala foi conduzida. Escores da EDG-15 foram comparados com os diagnósticos de depressão (DSM-IV) para a validade de critérios. Na análise de validade concorrente, os mesmos escores foram correlacionados com os das escalas de depressão CAMDEX, Miniexame do Estado Mental (MEEM), Cambridge Cognitive Examination (CAMCOG) e BOMFAQ. RESULTADOS: A depressão clínica foi diagnosticada em 35,71 por cento da amostra avaliada de acordo com o DSM-IV. Para o diagnóstico de depressão maior ou distimia, o ponto de corte 5/6 apresentou acurácia moderada (AUROC = 0,84), sensibilidade de 79,92 por cento e especificidade de 78,29 por cento. A consistência interna foi de 0,80. Na análise fatorial, três fatores obtidos explicaram 52,72 por cento da variância total observada. Os escores da EDG-15 correlacionaram-se com os da escala de depressão CAMDEX. CONCLUSÃO: No geral, a EDG-15 apresentou boa confiabilidade e validade (concorrente e de critério). Em settings cardiológicos, seu uso pode auxiliar no rastreamento de quadros depressivos de forma simples e rápida.


BACKGROUND: The prevalence of depression in individuals with coronary artery disease (CAD) is high. The Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) is a broadly used tool to screen for depression in elderly individuals. In Brazil, the psychometric properties of the short version have not been adequately assessed. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the psychometric properties of the short version of the GDS in patients with CAD treated at a Cardiology Outpatient Clinic. METHODS: The present is a cross-sectional study that assessed 209 elderly individuals (≥ 65 years) with CAD using the GDS-15, the Cumulative Illness Rating Scale for Geriatrics (CIRS-G), the Brazilian OARS Multidimensional Function Assessment Questionnaire (BOMFAQ) and The Cambridge Examination for Mental Disorders of the Elderly (CAMDEX). The internal consistency of the GDS-15 was calculated through the KR-20. A factorial analysis of this scale was carried out. The GDS-15 scores were compared with the diagnoses of depression (DSM-IV) for the validity of criteria. At the analysis of concurrent validity, the same scores were correlated with those of the CAMDEX, mini-mental state examination (MMSE), Cambridge Cognitive Examination (CAMCOG) and BOMFAQ depression scales. RESULTS: Clinical depression was diagnosed in 35.71 percent of the sample assessed according to the DSM-IV. For the diagnosis of major depression or dystimia, the cutoff 5/6 presented moderate accuracy (AUROC = 0.84), sensitivity of 79.92 percent and specificity of 78.29 percent. The internal consistency was 0.80. At the factorial analysis, three obtained factors explained 52.72 percent of the total variance that was observed. The GDS-15 scores correlated with those of the CAMDEX depression scale. CONCLUSION: In general, the GDS-15 presented good reliability and validity (concurrent and of criterion). In cardiologic settings, its use, which is simple and fast, can be utilized in the screening for depression.
