ABSTRACT

Establishing a scientific method of quality control and evaluation of Chinese materia medica (CMM) is important and challenging for ensuring the safety and effectiveness of CMM. The existing methods of quality control and evaluation of CMM have many limitations and it can not be effectively evaluated in the true sense. Based on the existing CMM quality system, the rational use of bioeffect evaluation method can realize the scientific quality control and evaluation of CMM and provide the necessary technical support for the modernization of CMM. This article summarizes the bioeffect evaluation methods established in CMM, such as activating blood and removing stasis, ventilating lung, antibacterial activity, and anti-inflammatory activity. This paper provides useful reference for establishing a scientific quality control and evaluation system of CMM.

ABSTRACT

This article was aimed to study the effect ofXiao-Qing-LongDecoction (XQLD) on plasma AngⅡ, ALD, Na+-k+-ATPase content, and plasma AT1 and AT2 mRNA expressions in Cor pulmonale rats, in order to further explore the mechanism of ventilating lung qi for diuresis. A total of 60 Wistar rats were randomly divided into the normal group, model group and XQLD, with 20 rats in each group. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method was used to determine the AngⅡ, ALD and Na+-k+-ATPase content. The fluorescence quantitative PCR was used to detect the AT1 and AT2 mRNA expression. The results showed that compared with the normal group, the AngⅡ, ALD and Na+-k+-ATPase contents in the model group were significantly increased (P< 0.05, orP< 0.01). Compared with the model group, the AngⅡ, ALD and Na+-k+-ATPase contents in the XQLD group were obviously decreased (P< 0.05). Compared with the normal group, AT1 mRNA expression was increased; and AT2 mRNA expression was decreased in the model group (P<0.05, orP< 0.01). Compared with the model group, AT1 mRNA expression was decreased; and AT2 mRNA expression was increased in the XQLD group (P < 0.01). It was concluded that XQLD can effectively regulate the AT1 and AT2 mRNA expressions, influence ALD content to ventilate lungqi for dieresis.

ABSTRACT

Visceral manifestation theory is that lung dominates Qi, breath, and governs ascent and dispersion. How to combine the theory of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with the modern physiology and pathology in modern scientific interpretation has been the focus of attention. Previous study found that most of the ventilating lung and releasing exterior drugs contained the pharmacodynamic substance related to adrenergic receptor (AR) signal transduction. The connotation of "lung governing ascent", such as controlling breath movement, transferring nutrients, spreading heat to regulate temperature, helping the heart to control blood circulation, coincided with the physiological function of the organ dominated by the AR-regulated sympathetic postganglionic fibers. Therefore, the hypothesis of "lung governing ascent" is closely related to AR pathway signal transduction. The correlation between the molecular mechanism of the modern physiology and pathology and pharmacodynamic substance basis was evaluated and expounded by the deduction of pulmonary modern biological theory based on ventilating lung and releasing exterior in this paper. So the guidance on the theory of visceral manifestation in TCM for the research and development of modern drugs should be expected fully. Ultimately, the application of lung governing ascent principle will be a profound meaning to guide the prevention and clinical treatment for a variety of refractory diseases caused by the change of environment, climate or lifestyle.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the effect of applying nourishing kidney and ventilating lung combined with western medicine in treating cough variant asthma (CVA) patients with kidney yang deficiency. Method Eighty CVA patients with kidney yang deficiency were divided into contrast group and therapeutic group, each group with 40 patients. The patients in contrast group were treated with Aminophylline sustained-release tablet, 0.1~0.2 g, 2 times a day, as well as Ketotifen tablet, 1 mg, 1 time a day, p.o. As for the therapeutic group, the patients were treated with Chinese herbs of nourishing kidney and ventilating lung based on the treatment of contrast group. One course was 4 weeks for the two groups, and the evaluation were carried out in the fifth week. Results After the treatment, CD8+ ascended significantly, and CD4+ and IgE descended significantly compared with the pre-treatment. There were significant differences between two groups (P
