ABSTRACT

Aims: The behavior of laboratory animals has been studied through displacement, with different objectives by researchers. Methods: Although different methods have already been used in the tracking of laboratory animals, manual tracking mode videogrammetry for 2D analysis of displacement has not been observed in animal studies. The aim of this study was to verify the accuracy and reliability of determining the displacement of Wistar rats by means of videogrammetry software Dvideo. The accuracy (between the known distance and distance traced) was determined by 3 different evaluators twice consecutive, by videoing a course of 10 meters in the enriched environment together with further analysis of the displacement of the midpoint marked on an apparatus. To calculate reliability (accuracy of the measurement system) and reproducibility (precision of the evaluators) to obtain the ratio of precision to tolerance (P/T), eight animals were filmed for 10 minutes in the enriched environment and analysis of distance covered by one of the animals by three different reviewers thrice consecutive. Results: The results obtained in the course of 10 meters of the known distance demonstrated accuracy of 0.10 m, precision of 0.05 m, and bias of 0.07 m. In the reliability test during the 10 minutes of displacement (m) of animal, the ratio of precision to tolerance (P/T) = 0.1 m was found between three different evaluators, demonstrating adequate capacity of the measure. Conclusion The manual tracking mode of the Dvideo presented high reliability and it can be employed for the displacement analysis of studies with rat experimental models.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Introduction: team sports have become an object of scientific investigation in several areas of knowledge, and one of those sports is basketball. Among the methods of investigation of multiple variables is videogrammetry sports, that can provide filming from the position of the players with respect to time. Objectives: the aim of this study was to analyze the distances covered by basketball players of an elite team in the game as principal, for videogrammetry. Methods: We filmed a game of the 2011/2012 season of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB). Following the acquisition of image sequences, it was held at Dvideo System (FEF-Unicamp, Campinas, Brazil) manual tracking of the position of all the players throughout the match, and the 2D reconstruction of the position versus time, for a real reference system defined on the court. Results: there were significant differences in the distances between periods for live ball (p = 0.002), and between the rooms for dead ball (p = 0.001). Conclusion: the analysis of the total distance covered, distance covered per minute and played times players per game, per game period, live-ball (active timer) and dead ball (stopped clock) showed important differences for describing part of the volume the efforts which can help coaches and trainers for the training of athletes.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the present study was to analyze the association and the agreement among three different methods to quantify of the vertical jump height: abalakov belt (AB), contact mat (TC) and videogrammetry (VG). Thirteen female volleyball players performed three maximal countermovement jumps, without the help of upper limbs. The three methods were used simultaneously to quantify the jump height. The lowest correlation (r = 0.77; p < 0.01) was found between VG and AB, while the strongest correlation (r = 0.92; p < 0.01) was found between VG and TC methods. In addition, Bland and Altman plots revealed no satisfactory agreement between the methods. These findings suggest precaution to compare the results of vertical jump height from different methods.

ABSTRACT

The kinematic pattern of the metacarpophalangeal joint of equine using videogrammetry was evaluated. The three dimensional kinematic analysis were performed in a treadmill using seven Arabian horses. The Dvideo program was used to obtain the three dimensional coordinates from a calibration system and three reflective markers placed on the third metacarpus, metacarpophalangeal joint and proximal phalanx of the left forelimb. After the landing of the hoof, the fetlock extends to maximal loading at mid stance. During the swing phase the joint shows two flexion peaks. This method allows the determination of the flexion and extension angle of the metacarpophalangeal joint during locomotion.

ABSTRACT

Human gait analysis has been used in a wide range of applications, such as diagnosis and treatment selection for patients with neuro-muscular-skeletal diseases. The methods and technologies that exist for gait analysis are numerous, and they allow the recollection of the main quantitative parameters of a gait pattern in an objective way. A lot of factors must be considered during gait analysis in order to obtain reliable results; some of them must be taken into account, including the planning and configuration of the laboratory, the acquisition process and the results analysis system. This paper presents some considerations derived from the literature review and also from the direct experience with patients. They are mainly focused in systems which use techniques such as videogrammetry, dynamometry and electromyography, since they are the most used nowadays.
