ABSTRACT

Agadatantra had a golden time period in Kerala, and was known in the name of Visha chikitsa. There were excellent Visha vaidhyas who used to treat extreme venomous conditions and even predict the condition of patient just through the Dootha lakshana. As a part of these practices, there were numerous textbooks on Visha chikitsa with unique and exclusive Yogas. Some of the books got maintained, and many got ruined. Among those only few practices are still in use in the management if Visha and still many are untouched. Prayoga samucchaya is a well-known traditional Keraleeya Visha chikitsa textbook written by renowned King Kochunni thamburan, which explains the concepts of Visha and its detail management. Lootha visha is a most frequent and important clinical condition that which a physician encounters in their daily practice. It has got importance in all the time, as its manifestation is in such a way that improper handling of the case may worsen the presentation. There many Agada yogas mentioned in the management of Lootha visha. Lasunadi Agada is a simple yoga explained in Prayoga samucchaya, which contains only 6 drugs, explained in the context of Lootha samanya chikitsa as Pana and Nasya. Presently this yoga is practicing in the name of Lasunadi gulika. So this paper is an attempt to review on the formulation Lasunadi Agada.

ABSTRACT

A poisonous plant is defined as a plant that when touched or ingested in sufficient quantity can be harmful or fatal. Many plants are harmful to people when consumed or through skin contact with plant chemicals. Poisonous medicinal herbs are used to treat a variety of illnesses, including diabetes, cancer, infection, and fungal growth. According to the review, numerous phytochemical components that have diuretic, purgative, laxative, anti-allergic, and other significant therapeutic effects have been identified from a variety of medicinal plants. If utilized appropriately, poison can be life-giving, calming to the three Doshas, encouraging, and regenerating. The poisonous plants categorized in Visha and Upvisha in Ayurveda texts. Agadtantra is an important branch of Astanga Ayurveda. Importance of this branch has been described in our Vedas, Epics, and Samhita. Proper description, classification, clinical features, and management of any kind of Visha has been described in this branch. Name of some poisonous plants are Dhatura, Vatsanabha, Bhallataka, Bhanga, Kuchala, Vacha and Gunja etc. Shodhana process is the only bridge between Visha and Aushadhi. Shodhana is the process by which physical, chemical and natural impurities are removed. It will intensify the potency, effectiveness of drug, nullify the toxicity. The aim of this review article is to provide a brief overview of the numerous medicinal uses of some poisonous plant.

ABSTRACT

Dooshivisha (cumulative toxicity) is a type of Kritrima visha (artificial poison). It is a transformed state of other types of poison if not eliminated, get collected in small doses leads to this type of poisoning. It is a unique concept of Ayurveda and is the cause of the majority of the health issues in the present era. Acharyas have said different treatment principles for the management of Dooshivisha (cumulative toxicity). Dooshivishari agada is the formulation of choice for its treatment, which is a herbo-mineral formulation comprised of twelve ingredients that are taken in equal amounts for the preparation. Many Acharyas such as Sushruta, Vagbhata, and Bhavaprakasha have explained it in their classical texts. Along with Dooshivisha (cumulative toxicity), it can also be used in its complications, and also for the treatment of all types of poisoning and other associated signs and symptoms.

ABSTRACT

Poisoning is a major public health concern that is becoming more common by the day. Poison can be consumed directly or indirectly from a variety of sources. Poisoning can now be found in a variety of areas, including junk food with chemical preservatives, various sorts of growing products like rice and wheat, and pesticide-laced veggies. As a result of diverse human behaviours, water, air, and soil have become contaminated, posing a hazard to human health. According to Ayurvedic doctrine, there are several sources of obtaining of toxins i.e., either through animate, inanimate or Kritim(artificial). Such toxins are accumulated without eliminating through the body or remains with being the less potent inside the body for several years generally called Dushi Visha. All the sign and symptoms of Dushi Visha looks like that of chronic poisoning and varies from organs to organs, where it becomes deposited. Such accumulated Visha then vitiates Dosha and that leads to vitiation of different kinds of Dhatus respectively. like, Rakta Dusti, Kitiva, Vrana, Kotha are the major manifestations that will see after prolong exposure to Dushi Visha. The main line of treatment of Dushi Visha is through Detoxification (i.e., Vamana, Virechana, Raktamokshana karma) followed by Dushivisari Agad Paana, that has mentioned by Charak. Classical text book has mentioned different level of clinical manifestations including sign and Symptoms and its complication along and its management with specific Justification.

ABSTRACT

Agadatantra is a branch of Ayurveda which deals with the symptoms and treatment of various animal, plant, artificial and latent poisons. The drug Langali (Gloriosa superb Linn) is being categorized under Moolavisha (poisonous roots) and is also one among the nine Upavishas (semi poisonous drugs) by different Ayurvedic pharmacopoeias. Even though it is poisonous it has got Shothahara (anti-inflammatory), Vranahara (wound healing), Krimigna (wormicidal), Shalyaharana (removal of foreign substances), Garbapaatana (abortificant) properties etc. It is being used by the Ayurvedic physicians in treatment of various ailments after proper purification. But its purificatory methods are not mentioned in Samhitas (treatises). It is mentioned in Ayurveda prakasha and traditional Agadatantra text books of Kerala. Here in this article an attempt is made to collect the information regarding Langali in Agadatantra perspective. The article includes both modern and Ayurvedic concepts in regards to its symptoms during poisoning and its treatment. Details regarding its purificatory methods and its therapeutic use in compound formulations as an antidote which has been mentioned in the traditional Agadatantra books which are available in Kerala have also been included.

ABSTRACT

Scorpions use their sting as a defensive weapon or as a mechanism to incapacitate prey. The scorpion sting possesses venom and the character of the poison depends on the scorpion species. Some may lead to death. Ayurveda and Sri Lankan traditional physicians treat scorpion sting by administering medicines internally and externally, in various forms. Data was gathered from Ayurveda and Sri Lankan traditional medical books, through interviewing physicians, research journals and internet. Herbs, minerals and animal sources are used to treat scorpion sting. Analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antihistaminic, antipyretic, antispasmodic, antioxidant, cardioproective, respiratory protective, neuroprotective properties and anti-scorpion venom activity of these ingredients are scientifically proven. Due to these properties, these ingredients are capable of overcoming the symptoms such as pain, swelling, redness, itching, spasms, neurotoxicity and also cardiac and respiratory failure occurring through scorpion sting. It is concluded that Ayurveda and Sri Lankan traditional physicians possess multi-faceted, effective treatment methods for scorpion stings which can be scientifically proven.
