ABSTRACT

Abstract The emergency psychological service held at Women's Police Stations (DDMs) is a tool in the combat against women violence. However, on-duty emergency workers are included in an emotionally intense environment. We aimed at analyzing the perceptions of DDM on-duty emergency workers and agents about gender violence, as well as its psychic impacts on their personal and work routines. We interviewed 23 women aged between 19 and 56 (M=28, 26; DP=10, 15), and analyzed the obtained data using IRAMUTEQ. We evaluated 1,304 text segments, retaining 98.27% of the total, which originated six classes. The most expressive among those was Class 1 "service impact", with 21.55% of the text segments. Even though the emergency psychological service triggers physical and emotional wear and tear, DDM on-duty emergency workers and agents do not receive emotional support to perform their functions, thus developing personal coping strategies.

ABSTRACT

Abstract The Women Police Stations (Deam) comprise the intersectoral network of services for violence victims. This study aimed to approximate to the reality of a Deam, with women suffering violence and police officers who worked at the unit. Its method is qualitative, consisting of an ethnographic research in a police station in the countryside of São Paulo. The contact between users and police officers showed the women opposed violence, even if, at times, their relationships were antagonistic or troubled. In the different languages between the indispensabilities of victims and officers, while the officers conformed the reports to the law and justice provisions, the users sought integral care regarding public security and health. On the one hand, violence was relational, involved the languages of the kinship and mixed with the daily life; on the other hand, it was a record, a right, an action to be taken. The ethnographic experience showed the limits of a Deam, delineated its difficulties in meeting demands and revealed the anguishes of each voice, but it emerged as a locus for resolution of conflicts and negotiations as well, not being limited to interpreting crimes. Thus, Deam proved to be a place where women talked about themselves and their expectations.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

This study has arisen from a research on spousal violence and alcohol drinking. In 2009, we made eight visits to the Women Protection Police Station of Fortaleza (DDM). We studied how the people (bodies) who go to this Police Station are placed as if they presented "identities" which outline their ways of life. We used observations, notes, photography, and talks, mapping the composition of the spaces: how they are constituted, to whom they are destined, and why. We realized that the diversity in the DDM is ordered into the duality female/male. The way in which the bodies are positioned creates borders between women (whom the Police Station must protect) and men (against whom the women should be protected). This reflects in the way that movable ornaments are placed and in the authorizations and prohibitions regarding the circulation in the rooms. Thus, there is, at the DDM, an organization of humans and non-humans in heteronormative positions. There is also a resistance against that, but with less visibility.
