ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To observe the clinical effect of electroacupuncture at acupoints of yangming meridians for sarcopenia.@*METHODS@#A total of 60 patients with sarcopenia were randomized into an observation group and a control group, 30 cases in each group. In the control group, conventional nutrition intervention for sarcopenia was adopted. In the observation group, on the basis of the treatment in the control group, acupuncture was applied at bilateral Binao (LI 14), Quchi (LI 11), Zusanli (ST 36), Yanglingquan (GB 34), etc.,ipsilateral Quchi (LI 11) and Zusanli (ST 36) were connected to electroacupuncture, with discontinuous wave, 2 Hz in frequency, 1-10 mA in intensity, 2 times a week, with a interval of 3 days. A total of 12-week treatment was required in the two groups. Before and after treatment, the appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI), grip strength, 6 m-walking time, body fat percentage and body moisture percentage were observed in the two groups.@*RESULTS@#Compared with those before treatment, after treatment, ASMI and grip strength were increased while 6 m-walking time was shortened in the two groups (P<0.05); body fat percentage was decreased while body moisture percentage was increased in the observation group (P<0.05). After treatment, in the observation group, ASMI, grip strength and body moisture percentage were increased (P<0.05), 6 m-walking time was shortened and body fat percentage was decreased (P<0.05) compared with those in the control group.@*CONCLUSION@#Electroacupuncture at acupoints of yangming meridians can effectively improve the skeletal muscle mass, muscle function, body fat percentage and body moisture percentage in patients with sarcopenia, and make the distribution of muscle and fat more reasonable.

ABSTRACT

[Objective] To explore the similarities and differences between ancient and modern physicians in treating "bone atrophy"so as to provide reference for clinical treatment of renal osteodystrophy, bone tuberculosis and osteoporosis. [Method] Summarizing the similarities and differences between ancient and modern physicians in etiology and pathogenesis and treatment of syndrome differentiation of bone atrophy by consulting the literatures. [Results] Ancient and modern physicians have connections and differences in treatment based on syndrome differentiation of bone atrophy.Ancient physicians who treated bone atrophy whose syndrome was evil invading XiGu, deficiency of spleen and kidney with coordinating meridian of Yangming, getting rid of evil obtained better effects and the syndrome of Qi deficiency and blood stasis, damage of Yin and Yang that treated with enriching Qi and activating blood, nourishing yin and tonifying yang as well. Modern physicians who treated bone atrophy whose syndrome was deficiency of spleen and kidney, dampness and blood stasis with nourishing kidney and spleen, activating blood and draining turbidity obtained certain effects and the syndrome of kidney and essence deficiency, blood and Qi stasis that treated with strengthening bones and essence, promoting flow of qi and blood as well. So as the syndrome of Yang deficiency of kidney, phlegm and blood stasis resisting meridian. [Conclusion] Ancient and modern physicians have certain effects in the treatment of bone atrophy. They both believe that Qi and blood stasis are the factors which lead to bone atrophy, therefore, activating Qi and blood as treatment of bone atrophy are both agreed. The difference is that the ancient physicians believed that the spleen and stomach deficiency was the key to the formation of bone atrophy.Coordinating Yangming meridian as treatment.Modern physicians believe that kidney deficiency and blood stasis is the key to the formation of bone atrophy.Nourishing kidney and activating blood as treatment mainly.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of Prof. Gao Yu-chun’s needling Yangming method for facial palsy, as well as to inherit and further develop the academic idea. Methods:A total of 70 cases were randomly allocated into a treatment group (n=35) and a control group (n=35). Cases in the treatment group were treated with needling Yangming method, whereas cases in the control group were treated with traditional acupuncture method. The treatment was done once a day in both groups (6 times a week) for a total of 6 weeks. Then the therapeutic efficacies were evaluated before and after treatment using the House-Brackmann (H-B) scale and scores of signs and symptoms. Results:After 2 weeks of treatment, patients in the treatment group obtained a better H-B score and recovery rate than those in the control group (P0.05). Conclusion:Needling Yangming method can obtain a faster effect, a higher early-stage recovery rate and shorter course of treatment than traditional acupuncture method.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective To study the effects of electro-acupuncturing points of Yangming meridians on hemiplegia.Methods45 early hemiplegic patients were divided into Groups A,B and C(18 cases in each group).Physical therapy was performed in each group, those in Group B were electro-acupunctured at points of Yangming meridians, while those in Group C at the points according to balancing muscular tension. They were assessed with Fugl-Meyer Assessment and Ashworth Spasm Rating before and 2,4 weeks after treatment.Results2 weeks after treatment, motor function and muscular tension were significantly improved in all the groups, while the efficacy in Groups B and C was superior to Group A(P<0.05).4 weeks after treatment, the Ashworth score of lower extremity in Group B was superior to Groups C and A(P<0.05).ConclusionElectro-acupuncturing at points of Yangming meridians can improve the motor function especially muscular tension in hemiplegic patients, which may be helpful for flaccid paralysis, but adverse for spastic paralysis.
