ABSTRACT

Abstract The study of biologically active substances-secondary metabolites of plants that exhibit geroprotective properties is an actual and popular direction in medicine to prevent early aging. This work aims to select the cultivation parameters for obtaining in vitro cell cultures of meadowsweet containing the largest amount of biologically active substances (BAS) for their further extraction as candidate substances for geroprotectors. To specify the effectiveness of the selected cell culture cultivation parameters, biomass growth for callus and root cultures, growth index, specific growth rate, and viability for suspension cultures was carried out. The study results made it possible to select the nutrient media for the cultivation of cell cultures of meadowsweet. It has been found that the greater the antioxidant activity of the extracts, the greater the antimicrobial properties it exhibits. In this study, cell cultures in vitro and alcohol extracts from the plant Filipendula ulmaria were considered as raw materials rich in candidate substances for geroprotectors. According to the data obtained, the plant is rich in hydroxybenzoic and salicylic acids, spireoside, avicularin, and hyperoside.

ABSTRACT

In searching for alternatives to traditional chemical medicines, including feed antibiotics, scientists around the world are developing a new generation of medicines, phytobiotics. This work was aimed at studying the phytobiotics (pharmaceutical substances) production technology using the method of low-temperature vacuum water-ethanol extraction of Siberian medicinal plants, followed by low-temperature vacuum drying and determination of the main biologically active substances that had the required pharmacological effect on the organisms of farm animals and poultry. The objects of the study in this work were Siberian medicinal plants and ready phytobiotics (pharmaceutical substances). The article describes the technological conditions for obtaining pharmaceutical substances and their properties concerning the content of biologically active substances. It has been found that for obtaining pharmaceutical substances, extraction should be performed in three stages: two water extractions and ethanol- water extraction. The article provides a list of medicinal plants and the amounts of biologically active substances that ensure certain pharmacological effects on the set of economically useful qualities in farm animals and poultry and contained in phytobiotics (pharmaceutical substances) based on extracts from medicinal plants.

ABSTRACT

Chinese herbal medicines( CHMs) are a class of preparations made from natural plants that pose health beneficial properties as well as illness prevention functions. Thanks to a panel of salutary features, such as comprehensive immunological enhancement and inhibition of pathogenic bacteria, negligible side-effects,inappreciable drug-resistance,CHMs have been taken as one of the costeffective candidates for antibiotics substitutions. Through probiotics fermentation, the enzymatic hydrolysis of matrixes of CHMs enables easier release of the active ingredient as well as endows less toxicity of the preparations derived. During fermentation, the macromolecule or polymers forms of the active ingredient can be cut down to smaller molecule, which favors the transmembrane transport and improve adsorption of the active ingredients by the tissues. Other than the enzymatic benefits, probiotics can produce metabolites that inhibit pathogenic bacteria propagation, which may function synergically with the inhibitory effects of the CHMs preparations to fight the target pathogens. In addition, the oligosaccharide like components of CHMs can promote the growth of probiotics in intestinal environment which may largely facilitate the gut health. To summarize, the fermentation of CHMs using probiotics brings about the biochemical reactions and elevates the health beneficial effects by synergy of the microbial and herbal activities. It has been proved to be one of promising approaches as to antibiotic substitutions, particularly in livestock and poultry breeding industries. This review covered the recent progress of CHMs fermentation on the aspects of microbial strains, patterns of fermentation and active substances from fermentation of CHMs and their potency, respectively.

ABSTRACT

As cyanobacteria with nitrogen-fixing ability, diazotrophic cyanobacteria can adapt to all kinds of habitat and produce many primary and secondary metabolic materials with unique chemical structures, diverse properties, and biological activities. As a nutritional supplement, diazotrophic cyanobacterium such as Nostoc has a long edible history in indigenous populations in China. In recent years, research results have shown that the bioactive substances produced by nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria are promising candidates for the prevention and control of some human diseases, and the mechanisms of nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria to achieve health and disease prevention are gradually revealed. This paper reviewed the progress in research and its mechanism of nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria in anti-oxidation, scavenging free radicals, antibiosis, antivirus, antitumor, antiinflammation, and anticoagulation in the past five years (2013-2017) at home and abroad. Moreover, the existing problems and the development directions in future were also discussed. We expect that it can provide reference for the further development of the related field in China.

ABSTRACT

As the most important nuclear transcription factors in the cells, NF-κB is involved in many intracellular signaling pathways and transcription and regulation of genetic information. The signal transduction pathways mainly include the activation of IκB kinase, degradation of IκB protein and the nuclear translocation of p65. p65 trans-nuclear binding with DNA is the key for NF-κB to play a role. Abnormal activation of NF-κB is a major factor in the induction of oxidative stress, inflammation, cancer and so on. Therefore, maintaining the balance of NF-κB activity and regulating the nuclear translocation of p65 have great significance for further research on related subjects. In this paper, the regulation effects of the main active substances of medicinal plants (such as polyphenols, saponins, and alkaloids) on p65 nuclear translocation and the upstream pathway of NF-κB were discussed, expecting to provide reference for the development of natural active substances for functional food.

ABSTRACT

Matricaria recutita L. (syn. M. chamomilla L., Chamomilla recutita L. Rauschert) is known as true chamomile or German chamomile and Chamaemelum nobile (L.) All. (syn. Anthemis nobilis L.) is known as Roman chamomile. The biological activity of chamomile is mainly due to the flavonoids apigenin, luteolin, quercetin, patuletin and essential oil constituents such as α-bisabolol and its oxides and azulenes. There are several chamomile chemocultivars. Chamomile has anti-inflammatory, deodorant, bacteriostatic, antimicrobial, carminative, sedative, antiseptic, anticatarrhal and spasmolytic properties. It is used to treat sleep problems. Researchers indicated that the pharmacological effect of German chamomile is mainly connected with its essential oils. Environmental conditions and stresses can alter active substances of chamomile. This review focuses on characteristics, secondary metabolites and utilization of German and Roman chamomile.

ABSTRACT

This review deals with the role of micronutrients, i.e. vitamins and minerals, in alternative medicine. The following two conditions are important when considering vitamins and minerals as tools for alternative medicine: (1) The majority of Japanese consume less than the dietary requirement of vitamins and essential minerals. A national nutrition survey in 2001 showed that vitamins B 1, B6, C, and E, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc and copper could be included in this category. (2) Micronutrients have a specific pharmacological effect that is independent of their nutritional function. Vitamins A, D, E, K, B1, B12, and C, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, lithium and vanadium are included in this category. In addition, vitamin-like active substances may be used as an alternative medicine for their pharmacologic actions. The function and role of each micronutrient in alternative medicine is discussed.<br>

ABSTRACT

Objective The extract of spinal cord tissue in morphine spared root rat was isolated and purified to look for some neurotrophic active substances. Methods Neurotrophic active substances were isolated and analysed by Sephacryl S 200 HR gel chromatography、high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)and tissue culture, ect. Results The extract of spinal cord tissue of spared root rat could enhance the neurite growth of chick embryonal dorsal root ganglion(DRG) in vitro. There was also same effect in the extract of spinal cord tissue of morphine\|treated rat.But there was no significant difference in the extract of spinal cord tissue promoting the neurite growth between spared root rat and morphine treated rat.The extract of spinal cord tissue of morphine spared root rat had evident neurotrophic active role. The peak Ⅱ eluate and peak Ⅳ eluate obtained from the spinal cord tissue extract of morphine spared root rat through Sephacryl S 200 HR gel chromatography could promote the neurite growth of DRG.According to the analysis of SDS PAGE,the peak Ⅱ eluate showed one main protein zone with a molecular weight of 65kD and the protein composition of peak Ⅳ eluate was more complicated. The peak Ⅳ eluate of gel chromatography was then furhter isolated by HPLC.It was observed. That the peak A eluate of HPLC could promote the neurite growth of DRG. It was showed by SDS PAGE that the peak A eluate presented two main protein zones with molecular weight of 30kD and 18 kD.Conclusion\ The molecular weight of neurotrophic active substances, which were isolated from the extract of spinal cord tissue of morphine spared root rat, might be 65kD,30kD and 18kD proteins.\;[
